  1. Not necessarily. His season (much like the clubs) is judged over the entirety of it so a few errors here and there could be absorbed into high marks from lots of good games enabling him to finish top of the merit list.
  2. He has worked with VAR on the few Premier League games he has refereed and in our FA Cup quarter final. I don't think the referee is really at fault here as his initial view was partly obstructed by the Wednesday player on the ground. The blame for me lies wholly with VAR who, after seeing the incident from the other side should have recommended an OFR. I'm sure the decision would have been overturned if this simple process had been followed.
  3. The referee today was the same one who wrongly sent Jake Garrett off at Coventry, should have sent Jack Robinson off at Sheffield in the FA Cup and sent Ayala off at Bristol City. Three but decisions to make but only one (Ayala) correct in my view. He has just been promoted to Select Group one though. To add the Barnsley's woe I thought they should have had a penalty early in the second half. The VAR once again has simply proved wholly inadequate.
  4. I am honestly perplexed at the red card given to the Barnsley player given that VAR is there to advise the referee on a 'clear and obvious error'. It didn't endanger an opponents safety, wasn't out of control of dangerous so it's simply a yellow card for reckless play for me. And given Barnsley should have had a penalty a few moments earlier they can feel really hard done to. The camera panned to Howard Webb in the aftermath who was studiously reading a text or email on his phone. His face gave me a strong indication of the content.
  5. The relief of the Everton fans was clear but within minutes they were chanting 'sack the board'. As at every club they are the one constant. Players, managers and owners come and go but they, like us are there for life.
  6. I finished the series Gav and agree that it was excellent. I particularly liked the focus on individuals from across the divide rather than the collective paramilitary units. Their stories were terrible and the raw emotion was evident even after all these years.
  7. There you go. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/rob-edwards-tom-lockyer-luton-30094611
  8. I have just been told that Luton will be playing away games until some time in September to give them time to get their ground ready. This was an agreement made last week after a ground inspection.
  9. Awful person seems a bit strong. I saw him go to every Coventry player after the game to console them before he celebrated which I think is far from awful. Two of the starting team and a substitute were brought in in January by Edwards.
  10. I read they will have a new stand built very quickly like Blackpool did when they went up. They also have to improve media and disabled facilities.
  11. Congratulations to Luton. It's a fantastic achievement for a club with quite meagre resources but they make up for that with a spirit money can't buy. Their manager seems a good sort but as much as I dislike Nathan Jones some credit has to go to him. I'm looking forward to some of the big time millionaires in the Premier League seeing the facilities at Kenilworth Road.
  12. He was the best despite his aberration at Palace.
  13. The Championship play-off final has been a Select Group one referee for some time now. I suppose the logic is you want the best referee on the game with such huge rewards. And Oliver is the best in this country by a long way.
  14. Credit to Robins for a brave half time substitution and a change of shape - that's what good managers do. His better players got on the ball and deservedly equalised. It's up for grabs now and it could hinge on a mistake though fatigue.
  15. Luton are calling the shots in the first half. They get the ball forward early and at every opportunity and put the ball into the penalty area for Morris and Adebayo to get something on it. Pretty simple but effective with hardly any risk taking just to retain possession. Robins has his work cut out and the encouragement for him must be that they aren't more than one down.
  16. I haven't read that anywhere on this board so I assume you have posted it to offer up some veiled praise for our owners. Or just being provocative and looking for an argument.
  17. As far as I can see he isn't underperforming in their eyes. He was boasting recently about reaching his target on season ticket revenue so I assume from that they see him a performing rather than asking why we have thousands of empty seats, why we ran out of merchandise before Christmas and why four players have walked for nothing (amongst a whole host of other issues). It's the perfect storm for him. I can't stand Waggott but I see him more as a symptom of these awful owners.
  18. Radio Rovers was ground breaking as the first of its kind I believe. It was the ideal pre match build up with interviews across the whole range of match day people included Steve Patrick, the then groundsman. I remember a section entitled Rhythms of the Blues when players and staff would do an interview and it was interspersed with some of their favourite songs. We had Wendy reading the teams out an hour before kick off. And Rovers TV was excellent and featured a wide range of topics which actually appealed to the majority of fans. Now it's too much trouble to actually have a camera on the pitch at half time when we have special guests being interviewed. Rovers TV even used to cover the half time draw so it could be seen on the big screen.N Another example of the dumbing down we have endured under the errant ones.
  19. I wish Pedersen would have told them about Anderson when he was running riot at Ewood. And Kean. And Shaw. And Agnew. And Singh. Ad nauseam.
  20. Big Sam couldn't lose with this Leeds job. He will get a reported £3m bonus for keeping them up but if not be will earn more in a few weeks than a lot of people will do in a decade. Such is the crazy world of football. It will be interesting if Leeds do to down. They have lots of foreigners who won't fancy the Championship but they aren't really worth much if they are sold. They also have egotistical owners who have proved to be loose cannons in the past.
  21. If that is true why are the owners not questioning the role of Waggott, Pasha and if Broughton was there at the time him too?
  22. Did his agent write that? 😂 The man is a professional blagger of which there are too many in football but there are still gullible people running football clubs who fall for it.
  23. It was said in commentary the other night that they will have to spend £10m to get their dilapidated ground ready for Premier League football. This includes better facilities for disabled supporters and the media. I was told that Rovers would have had to spend several million too had we gone up.
  24. I agree. He is probably the most considered and insightful summariser at the moment. I refereed him a few times and there was no edge to him at all. He was pleasant, articulate and had an understanding of what my role was.
  25. Isaac Whitehall was the most promising youngster from his group but unfortunately injury has curtailed the best part of the last two years. Hopefully he can get fit, stay injury free and fulfil his potential. It's good that Rovers are offering him a deal after his injuries too.
