v Coventry City (a) - 4/10/2023
arbitro replied to Herbie6590's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
We deserved far more than we got tonight and the performance was really good as we moved the ball about with a good tempo. I can't get as maudlin as some though because I believe that Tomasson will come good with these players. We were solid in midfield and defence tonight which has been a bit of an Achilles Heel for us recently and the pace of Dolan, Markanday and Szmodics really worried Coventry. Of course there are things to be critical of but for me the green shoots are growing and will flourish again soon. I am enjoying the football we are playing. I know it's about results and I would trade the two in a heartbeat but we are a work in progress and I think we have to be patient however frustrating it gets. -
Rovers went through on penalties after what was a pretty turgid 90 minutes from both teams but I felt that Blackpool were marginally the better of the two. Rovers continually gave the ball away or were caught in possession although in fairness we had at least six under 18's. Winning was the important thing though and as such progressing into the next round was the priority.

The decision to close the Blackburn End was taken before a ticket was even sold so how could a potential gate be gauged. Swag will be in denial of the potential numbers simply to justify his decision. He is a faceless coward too. How many CEO's would have their PA's replying to customers over such an emotive subject. FOW.

Jon Dahl Tomasson - Sweden coach
arbitro replied to Tom's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
But he stayed around for five years. He was happy to trundle along in such a safe job under no pressure. In League One he had the biggest budget by far and was given millions to spend. In some ways I don't blame him as he was almost guaranteed five years on good money to tread water and he went along with it. And on several occasions he publicly tried to dumb down our expectations. And the story is that on two successive January windows he had money left from his transfer budget. -
I'm pretty sure it was Paul Hunt who told the owners in a letter to sack Kean but alas he was bombed out for saying this. It was in the same letter he asked to be made CEO as he was Deputy CEO but effectively running the place. The real irony was that he was Deputy CEO to nobody, we didn't have one. It kind of sums up their tenure.

For sure he is a symptom of the Venky disease and his lack of scruples is there for all to see. His role in the taking of Andy Cole's signing on fee, his role in the demise of Coventry and the documented untruths we are aware of at Rovers (I'm sure there are more that haven't surfaced yet). With interest I read a post on here the other day with the reign of the Indians documented chronologically. The executives who haven't been subservient to them have been summarily dismissed for having the temerity to try and advise them to do the right things. Swag is a puppet and his huge salary is akin to blood money in my view as he is prepared to take a bullet for them. He is the CEO in name only - he contributes nothing of any value to this club as his boss is the man who has taken a Trappist Monk type vow of silence. Waggot is the monkey to this particular organ grinder.

Blackburn Rovers Women

I saw us beat Sheffield United recently and we enjoyed it that much we are going to the games against Palace and Charlton. There is a two for one offer on these games and I would recommend anybody to give it a try. And by the way this is from someone who has derided the standard of women's football previously. -

We shouldn't be picking a midfield to cover his infallibility though. If Hyam is slow replace him with a player who is quicker is the solution. Personally I think one of his main weaknesses this season has been his poor reading of the game and positional play (perhaps the two are interlinked). -
You really have to feel for these Plymouth supporters. https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/sport/football/long-road-hull-plymouth-argyle-8796079

There seems to be a blind spot from many over Hyam. At times he is so far off the pace of the game I question whether or not he is fit. Both Hill and Scott Wharton could feasibly start at Coventry if the team was being picked on form over the last four of five games. In my view Hill could also play the role of defensive midfielder the consensus feel we need. -

After so many apologies the effect of them is lost particularly when lessons don't seem to have been learned. I really would like to see VAR duties taken away from the referees and given to others. My understanding though is this can't happen because they are bound by FIFA protocols and regulations. It still comes across as to chummy and matey when on the released audio they refer to each other by their nicknames ie Tayls, Hoops and Olly.

There was a clear penalty for Brentford yesterday that wasn't even referred to the referee for an OFR. And the VAR was Michael Oliver who is our best referee. I honestly don't know where Howard Webb goes with this now as the hole has been dug too deep. I saw a list yesterday of apologies for VAR errors which is scary. Imagine the effect that all these have on the final league table and ultimately could cost a club millions. https://www.sportingnews.com/uk/football/news/var-apology-list-premier-league-pgmol-referee-mistakes/hhw8byssj025djuce3gbd2pp

v Leicester City (h) - 01/10/23

I think Leicester are the best team in the Championship and will win the league but their 4-1 win today flattered them in my opinion. It fine margins sometimes and if Travis (who I thought played well today) doesn't hesitate and takes his shot earlier we could have been level. Instead within a couple of minutes they get a penalty and go 3-1 up and pretty much game over. Once again we didn't cover ourselves in glory defensively as Leicester played swift counter attacks. I don't like losing but I'm not too down after today unlike the Ipswich game. I think either Hill or Scott Wharton deserve a chance to play simply because of the number of goals we are shipping. Hopefully we can get something on the road next week to cheer us all up.and I still have total faith in Tomasson. -
There is a story this morning that the VAR and AVAR in the Spurs v Liverpool match actually thought a goal had been awarded and therefore said 'check complete' to the on field officials thinking they were merely confirming the award of the goal. How on earth can they not be aware that the AR had his flag up clearly giving Diaz offside. It beggars belief. Apparently they realised their error once the game had restarted but clearly the law doesn't allow for them to go back once the game has restarted. Honestly I'm staggered at this level of incompetence. I feel sorry for Howard Webb here. He is doing his level best to improve things by being open and transparent but he simply doesn't have the quality of officials at his disposal. The offside aspect of VAR is actually an exact science so to get it wrong is unforgivable. As an old friend used to say to me 'you can't weave without weft'.

Rovers under 21's were heavily beaten by the Rags today and they fully deserved to win but the game turned on a controversial decision. With the score at 2-2 a United player jumped in two footed on Duru and was only cautioned when for me it was a clear red card. Within a minute or two the perpetrator was substituted which is always a sign that the player was extremely lucky. The incident seemed to rattle Rovers and United took advantage of this and scored another three goals. As I said they deserved to win but if they had rightly gone down to ten men it could have been completely different.

Honestly? So you won't be watching the game because of who the goalkeeper is? -

After Pears contributed more than any other player to our defeat at Ipswich I really am surprised he is starting. I have defended Pears and understood Tomasson's persistence with him but last Saturday was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. -
Jon Dahl Tomasson - Sweden coach

I think Tomasson knows a charlatan when he sees one and doesn't suffer fools. He demands high standards from his players and staff, if they don't toe the line then they are out. In my view that's how he views Swag but his powers don't allow him to get him out of the door. -
And no doubt his PA will be booking his first class travel to London for the game at Chelsea and overnight accommodation in a plush hotel. And his cohorts will probably be afforded the same. He will also be lording it up in the Directors Box. If they wanted to set an example they should board a coach with the supporters at Ewood and bloody well pay for it themselves.

v Cardiff City (h) - 27/9/23 Carabao Cup
arbitro replied to philipl's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
So Swag isn't even replying to supporters emails himself but allowing his PA (a f****** PA for him when we are skint btw) to do so in his behalf. This has been such an emotive subject and if he had any sense he would respond directly to each email with a call or at the very least an return email explaining his rationale. His cowardly cop out sums him up. -
v Cardiff City (h) - 27/9/23 Carabao Cup
arbitro replied to philipl's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
A great nights entertainment at Ewood for everyone that went with some terrific individual performances. The pick of the bunch were Moran and Markanday who both oozed class. For most of the game we were playing quick, incisive attacking football and some of it was a joy to behold. I thought Cardiff were decent too going forward but suspect defensively as we forced errors with the best pressing game we have played for a while. I really like the look of Sigurdsson whose movement in the penalty area was clever. His near post runs from out to in were something we haven't had for a while and caused Cardiff lots of problems. There was so much to enjoy and be pleased about tonight although I was a little narked with the two goals we conceded which were poor in our part and an occasional lapse when we conceded cheap possession. Just to add by my reckoning in the eight league games and three cup mtaches so far this season there have been fifty goals. That's entertainment. -
Meanwhile a few miles down the road at little Accrington Stanley the annual shirt giveaway to every year 3 school kid in Hyndburn has begun. They also get a goody bag with items that have been sponsored by local companies.
