  1. In the early to late seventies a five figure gate was generally as common as a (big) win on the pools. A 10,000 gate or higher probably had the champagne corks popping in the Boardroom.
  2. OK, you missed the "s" of purposes which rendered the sentence meaningless.
  3. 2nd para I disagree. If we don't go up, Leicester don't have a sale and the benefits to them are fairly marginal at best. If he was fit, would you loan Carter out to say West Brom for the rest of the season with an obligation for them to purchase if they got promoted?
  4. Was that before or after the recent injuries? Here's hoping anyhow.
  5. On the money as always. You'd imagine Eustace would like a decent striker, left winger, and cover at CB/LB/Midfield. 4-5 players. Let's compare that wishlist at the end of the window with who actually comes in.
  6. As has been pointed out to you chaddy, no-one is going to loan out Cannon with an option to buy as there's nothing in it for the parent Club. An obligation to buy no matter what might be a different matter but could you see our owners/management committing to that?
  7. That's a shame - it was good for comedy value while it lasted. After the latest defeat I was expecting a fairly imminent announcement so him and Coleen could go out on the lash somewhere in time for New Year's Eve.
  8. Happened in 1974. Albeit they came straight back up again the following season under the excellent Tommy Docherty.
  9. Given a choice I'd obviously prefer beating the Dingles but I'm not that bothered. You don't get 6 points for beating them, just the same 3 you would for beating Leeds. (It's a hypothetical scenario where you're guaranteed three points only from one of the two games before Upside Down spontaneously combusts)
  10. Boom Boom! 1st heard that joke, Chubby Brown referring to Shakespeare I think.
  11. Young Brighton striker who burst onto the scene a while ago and who looked like he was going to be the next big thing but who seems to have fallen off the radar completely recently. Never seen any serious link to us, just a couple of suggestions on here he'd be a good signing. I'm guessing we'd be towards the back of a pretty long queue.
  12. Ridiculous that Southgate has got one for being paid a fortune to simply do his job and especially in light of the fact that ultimately he failed. Completely demeans Sir Alf's knighthood.
  13. Categorically not. I would be relatively happy with a surprise win from either of these games though.
  14. Yeah, because it happened forty to fifty years ago doesn't excuse it right now though Parson. Back then we genuinely didn't have the proverbial pot to **** in. These days we have incredibly rich owners, who, latterly at least, won't spend any money despite flogging off nearly all the family silver. Happy New Year to you and all the best.
  15. 1st part, those three cost over £5m the last time a relatively decent chunk of money was made available so not really a fair comparison. 2nd part - of course they are. Not even close. Note you've also conveniently omitted Ohashi for next to nothing out of the equation.
  16. His reward will probably be being dropped for the Leeds game and maybe the Dingles.
  17. Beck got skinned a couple of times. I also saw us getting over-run in midfield 2nd half though. Maybe if we'd prevented the ball from getting to Roberts in the first place?
  18. Yes, according to the Club's version of events the Court proceedings have no effect on the day to day running of the Club and of course we've made all those sales previously. According to the FF minutes Waggott requested money from the owners for January and Eustace has subsequently said in an LT interview there is some money to spend. What could possibly go wrong? (I'm being facetious before everyone piles in)
  19. Probably. What we need is another Adam Armstrong on loan.
  20. That would necessitate decent money being spent!
  21. Wasn't it rumoured that we got Ohashi for around £250k due to some sort of clause in his contract? On the basis we've probably only paid around £1.25m initially for Gueye and Ohashi I wouldn't say they're the worst signings in the world. Then you've got Batth and Beck who were fairly inspired captures. Don't think anyone thought Cantwell was a bad idea when he signed either. Poles apart from previous dross like Telalovic/Ennis/Hirst/Wahlstedt
  22. Not missing the point at all. You're completely speculating to suit your argument by claiming that Gestede picked the players who haven't done so well and the others picked the ones who have. If there is indeed "a Committee" (I'm reminded of Colin Crompton's Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club for older readers) there's no reason to suggest the recruitment in January will be any worse than in summer all things being equal. Unless of course any successes were entirely down to Park - which I admit wouldn't be the biggest stretch in the world.
  23. I don't think we do. Travis is the key miss.
  24. Ohashi and Gueye or Ennis/Telalovic/Hirst? What about Beck and Batth? Theoretically Cantwell looked a great signing at the time as well.
  25. I got criticised on here yesterday for saying my minimum expectation before every home game was a win. Obviously I know we're not going to win every home game in practice and expectations are further tempered by injuries or loss of form at any given time. In my case it's more a case of refusing to accept that anything other than a win at home is a good result rather than actually expecting us to win every time. It does get a bit tedious reading certain posters predicting we're going to win every week though regardless of the opposition and form. It's as if they think it makes them a better fan than everyone else and really renders posting the prediction pointless.
