Venky’s v Indian Government (a)

Great track... it's about Welsh miners going to Spain in 1936 to fight Franco's fascists Venky's and the power of a rising India are connected -

Are India's shareholder laws and rights as robust as the UK's? To me, this news potentially leaves us in the worst of all worlds: they have another excuse to limit or withdraw funding for Rovers yet they're not impacted financially enough for them to have to to offload the club in a fire sale We're still stuck in their bottom drawer, maybe useful at some point in the future yet actually forgotten and unwanted -

Most of their tenure hasn't been acceptable but no one has been able to do anything about it. If the tax "fraud" has taken place in the UK there might be hope but if it's in India would it have any ramifications for their UK interests? I don't know but I think it's unlikely -

And what "prestige" is this of which you speak? We like to think we're a special club but then so do supporters of every club. We have an illlustrious history but I'm afraid it counts for little now. Prospective new owners will look at the club's accounts, attendances, the wealth of the area, the prospects for growth. There's very few Jack Walkers whose heart and soul were invested in the club. -

Why should a minor bit of tax / business skulduggery lead to them giving up ownership of BRFC. The money involved is tiny compared to their overall wealth and I doubt if they're in the least bit bothered about reputational damage They'll act in their usual way - silence or say as little as possible, and carry on -

I'm not defending them but if Venky's are in financial trouble is it not going to harm BRFC further? They've already damaged Rovers' prospects by turning off the transfer spending taps and any financial squeeze on the parent company will only make matters at Ewood even worse Anyone thinking that their current problems means they will be looking to sell BRFC will probably be disappointed. The owners are arrogant and conceited and will never admit to making a mistake. Like it or not, our ship is tied to the Venky's mast and if they're going down I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to take us with them too -

Summer Window - Rating /10

Good question. Morris had had 8 or 9 clubs before he joined Luton. playing about 200 matches and averaging about one goal every 7 games. At Luton he's averaging about 1 goal every 2 games. Maybe he just needed to settle somewhere. -

Carlton Morris, the definition of a big journeyman lower league striker but who made a huge difference to Luton last season and gave our defence all sorts of problems. He cost just £1.3m, a fraction of what we've saved in wages and made in transfer fees over the summer. There's many others like him but it's beyond Broughton's capabilities apparently -
It seems clear as the egg on Aynsley Pears' face after his howlers at the weekend that Jon Dahl Tomasson is not a happy bunny at Rovers His interviews openly mocking his boss, his jokes about the new team bus, his transparent annoyance at the transfer dealings over the summer, and worst, his stark statements about the lack of ambition at the club, all point to one conclusion and outcome This is not the job, or project for want of a better word, that he signed up for, and although he probably won't resign and is likely to reluctantly stick around, his heart's not really in it and he would leave at the earliest opportunity. So, where does that leave the long suffering Rovers fans? Tomasson is popular and will be hard to replace but who do fans want as the next Rovers boss? Does the club look abroad again or closer to home where there aren't that many obvious candidates at the moment. FWIW I haven't a clue on who might come in next but (sensible) suggestions please. Mr Waggott is waiting with notebook in hand.

My original rating was 6/10; today's farce shows that was far too generous. The team is weaker than last season and none of those weaknesses were addressed in the window (again). 3/10 is about right -

The errors on the field are incidental. And blaming the ref is a copout. The club is a shambles... you know it is. They're just papering over the cracks all the time -

When you start with a weaker team than last season and don't strengthen in the transfer window this is what you get -

Back to earth with a bump after the training session game at Harrogate. And we should be leading but the usual culprits in attack just don't have the extra bit of quality. It's the little things that make the difference -

Speedie was an absolute gem for Rovers. So many players in the modern game should watch him and learn. Some terrible mistakes by Shilton in that clip too - way past his best -
v Harrogate (a) - 31/8/23 - Carabao Cup
jim mk2 replied to philipl's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Good scoreline from a Rovers point of view but it amounted to little more than a training game and Harrogate were pitiful and their manager insulted the competition and embarrassed the club's fans by fielding such a weak team. It's about time clubs were sanctioned for doing it -
Andy Rankin, started his career at Everton. Died about a week ago, aged 79 ☹️

A leaky defence, an at times sub standard goalkeeper and a toothless attack that struggles to score goals suggests only one outcome today. Watford 2 Rovers 0
