  1. Broad to win the match tomorrow - what a great ending that would be. I'm surprised Anderson is carrying on too, he looks over the hill and not been at his best this series
  2. Yes I agree. There's far too much negativity England just lost 2 quick wickets and need to be careful now; there's not much batting to come
  3. And a wicket falls straight after lunch. Sometimes it's best to say nowt when England are going well
  4. Jekyll and Hyde from England. Bowled poorly early in the innings and an excellent afternoon session spoilt by letting their last 3 wickets put on about 120. The way we bowled at Murphy was embarrassing. Only a one-eyed Bazball groupie would say we dominated England need to bat carefully and not give their wickets away and build a decent score - a minimum of 275. Is Moeen fit to play?
  5. HMP were 178-7, now 277-8 and about to overtake England's first innings total. Murphy has a first class average of 12 and is hitting England's bowlers for sixes. Not good.
  6. Just tuned in to TMS and England have fought back well this afternoon - helps when I go away and do something useful instead England need to win this match and square the series to justify Bazball - otherwise it's pointless And another Bairstow wicketkeeping cock-up - if there's one player who's cost us the Ashes more than any other, it's him
  7. 82 in 38 overs so far, no wickets lost, no risks taken and carefully building a score over a day or two or three that will shut England out and secure the series. I hate praising this lot but this is how to play pragmatic winning Test cricket
  8. Which instead of declaring is exactly what England should have done at Edgbaston. Pile up the runs, make the game unloseable, demoralise the opposition, and see what happens. It’s a five day game so what’s the rush.
  9. Have to say I haven’t noticed a difference. Irish Cadbury tastes different, creamier. Hershey’s is horrible stuff compared to Cadbury
  10. In other words, playing the game situation and playing proper Test cricket You're right, the other lot will take their time, get their heads down, probably grind out 350 - 400 and build an innings lead that will effectively win the series. This isn't being "boring", or lacking in entertainment, it's a tough unsentimental approach and how this form of the game should be played. Genuine England fans do want us to win and don't care how we achieve it - especially in an Ashes series.
  11. A poor showing by England today. It's been said before but Bairstow needs dropping, Performs when you're on top, but when the chips are down and it really matters he fails. Bairstow, Root and Stokes out for a collective 12 and 283 all out by 4.30pm on the 1st day is not Test cricket as we know and love it. To compound England's woes, Moeen could be out of the match with a groin injury Bazball is on trial. A series defeat is not acceptable
  12. Last 2 proper batters (if you include Bairstow) at the crease..... and it's only 2.50pm on the first day
  13. Par for the course and normal but accepted The BBC's headline is just as bad: "Brooks counter-attack puts England on front foot against Australia" More realistic would be "Brooks leads tentative England recovery after collapse"
  14. Both are in Devon so there it should be cream with jam on top. Prefer the Cornish way personally
  15. Potato cake with a fried egg on top - heaven. Fish from the chippy must have the skin off. Down south they leave it on. Heathens
  16. I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass - Nick Lowe
  17. 1. Chocolate always in fridge. Cadbury's only 2. Diagonally, it's the best thing since sliced bread
  18. Ashes series are defining moments for England cricket captains and coaches - that's how important they are Generally, defeats in HMP have seen coaches being asked to clear their desks.. The two Fletchers, Flowers and Collingwood found that out. We haven't lost an Ashes series at home since 2005. Before then the likes of Denness, Botham, Gower and Gooch all lost their jobs after Ashes defeats. Root lost his job after the last series down there. There's plenty of precedents. Stokes and McCullum should be worried
  19. There's a few on here who know the game
  20. I'll repeat a previous post quoting Simon Wilde in The Times The Manchester weather is not to blame for England's failure in this series The failure is down to Stokes's poor captaincy at Edgbaston and Lord's, reckless batting at times because of Bazball ideology when prudence and caution was required, and McCullum's daft notion that "entertainment is more important than results" - especially in an Ashes series when to true England fans the result is everything and nothing else matters
  21. England have lost 3 out of the last 6 Tests. That's if you call the Ireland match a Test. But it's missing the point. Ollie Robinson was quoted as saying McCullum told the England dressing room after the Edgbaston defeat: "We've made the game what it was. We played all the cricket. If it wasn't for us the Australians wouldn't have ever had a chance to win" This was a game that England that should have won with better captaincy, a little more care and thought and match nous and less hubris (good word Geoff). McCullum doesn't get it: in an Ashes series you don't give them a chance to win - ever
  22. Boycott talks so much sense in that Torygraph piece "It’s called hubris. I looked it up in the Oxford English Dictionary and it says: arrogance, conceit, superiority, and big headedness. Well, they did entertain at Edgbaston but reckless batting cost them the match. So England mauled Australia but lost. How galling is that?” "In the first innings as Lord’s they lost sight of the object, which was to win the Ashes. Winning is paramount. Ask the England supporters whether they prefer us to win the Ashes or play well and lose." To judge from some so-called England "supporters" on this site, they prefer losing
