Valérien Ismaël: Former Head Coach
roversfan99 replied to DE.'s topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Its being painted as if we are the only team to have suffered injuries. Lots of teams have numerous players out. And some of our absentees havent been out for that long. -

I definitely do not think that every player we have is shit. Although its symptomatic of these owners that a lot of shit players have been here. -

Even factoring in the fact that we do have some shit players in the squad, and obvious imbalances. I do think we could be doing a bit better, yes. As we do have a handful of good players and the league especially near the bottom is really poor. Eustace wouldnt be 20th. -

All of the usual excuses coming up. Injuries, abandonments, bad luck, if we had more goals. He obviously is well down the list of problems but he is a problem nonetheless. -

Good riddance to a terrible excuse for a striker. -

We are well past the point where we need to "target" players. We need them signed. Although O'Rourke seems particularly active at the moment in linking us and numerous other clubs with various players which suggests agents at work. -

I think it shows how low standards are that I quite regularly see the defence of Ismael that the players at least havent all give up. -

I dont understand how a price tag can be unrealistic. Teams arent obliged to put price tags on their player at a certain level. It depends on so many factors, Barnsley clearly dont need or want to sell, he has a long contract, hs is young so his value will go up and West Brom have a huge sell on clause. Obviously its subjective but if you had 2 of the exact same player at 2 different clubs, yet they were valued at different amounts. The one wanting more isnt setting it at an unrealistic amount. If Barnsley wanted 5x what we were prepared to pay, then he clearly wasnt a realistic target. I still am unconvinced as to why we wanted a winger when we dont use them anyway, but its irrelevant anyway as he wont be coming. -

It hardly needs to be looked for. Alebiosu is a very good bit of recruitment for example. But we actually signed him because he was a realistic target within budget. No use finding players well out of our budget. -

Made irrelevant by trying to sign a £5m player for £1m. Maybe it was the other eye that found De Neve, Henriksson, Tavares etc. -

Even if we signed him, he would be our only competent winger. And everything we do seems to be very much building towards always playing a 352. -
Still isnt in full training.

He also is a proper winger so it makes no sense that we identified him really. -

Strikers are obviously the priority, and a left wing back. But we do also need a right wing back on top of that. Litherland is out for months and isnt a wing back. Miller isnt a wing back either, he cant attack. -

Depends if any loans are better. We dont have any youth right wing backs. Not that I am advocating this specific player. -

Didnt your mate on twitter say that Alebiosu to Everton was already done? Are they the rumours you refer to? I think he will go in the summer. -

I think we do need a right wing back to cover Alebiosu. But Ismael said the other day that we arent getting one so file this under nonsense rumour. -

If those players are the benchmark then we may aswell plan for League 1 and beyond. Dont doubt that recruitment has been not fit for purpose but Dlamini/Powell/Doherty are nowhere near ready either. The only 2 choices arent and shouldnt be playing kids who arent close to being ready or signing players as bad as weve seen to wear the shirt. -

To be fair, results were even worse playing 4231. Results in general under him have been shocking. -

Teams who struggle dont tend to get battered every week. Matches more often than not are decided by fine margins and we even with Gudjohnsen fit more often than not were on the wrong side of those margins. -

Im not sure I agree. Dlamini, Powell and Doherty all featured and I think looked miles away from being first team ready. None of them can or should be counted on as first team players at the moment. Some of the youngsters have shown that they are capable. Atcheson has only played a couple of games but has looked like he can play a part. Pratt didnt start yesterday but has made himself part of the first team squad. Litherland is currently now injured and isnt a wing back but also showed enough to suggest he wasnt out of his depth. These players shouldnt be assumed as ready to play week in week out but all 3 to varying degrees have shown that they are ready to be in and around it. Yesterday further highlighted the terrible recruitment and the holes within the squad. Its not realistic though to bring through loads of youngsters every season. The answer is not to just not bother and assume theres somebody coming through, the answer is to recruit properly. -

Some interesting comments about Baradji, he definitely is a strange player to get a grasp on. He does some things that make him a liability, really lazy and/or sloppy play, examples being giving the ball away needlessly in front of his own box today, once or twice v Wednesday he just gave up tracking back. But equally, unlike most he actually has some ability and can make things happen. Obviously he got the 2 goals in the last game, he showed one bit of quality today on the counter, a really well timed pass through to Doherty who ended up wasting a really good chance. He also has the ability to do a turn and seems to pick up a bit of pace to power past people. Definitely something to work with but not sure if he is fully trustworthy. Compare to Henriksson who is always looking at pelt and there are absolutely no glimmers of anything to work with in terms of ability, making him useless to us. -

It took longer than most other managers have to wait under Venkys, but eventually whoever you are, you will have the rug pulled from under you. Yes, I am sure that Venkys had a big chest of funds just waiting for him to spend. He repeatedly whinged that season over not having more money. They took longer to do so than anyone else, but they fucked him over like they fuck everyone over. Hence why we have never and will never prosper under them.
