It's definitely making a major contribution and it has for years if we are being honest. Mowbrays mid winter death spirals weren't helped because of the lack of quality and depth. Since then the squads have got lighter and lighter (cheaper and cheaper) and quality less and less before we lump fatigue, injuries etc on top.
