It was strange under Mowbray. His selections didnt tend to suggest that he had no care for the cups, far from it but for some reason his record was shocking in them. I remember in the season that we finished 8th, we played Morecambe at home early in the season in the League cup, I dont think we had signed anyone by that point, another example of the owners letting us down, and we went pretty much full strength and still embarassingly lost. A couple of other examples of cup exits. We played Newcastle in the third round of the FA cup I think the season after promotion and went full strength and got unlucky with dodgy decisions. Then a couple of years later we played Wigan, again the team wasnt a weak one but the one change that cost us was the goalkeeper. Equally, Tomasson didnt necessarily play his strongest team by any means but we went on a good run.

I think Rovers paid £18k for his transfer from Southport, he was brilliant to watch. The only time I remember his goals drying up was when John O'Mara joined and for a while, concentrated on being a provider and O'Mara scored freely. That didn't last and Tony (I suspect contrary to coaches directions) reverted to his entertaining, direct style. O'Mara stopped scoring but Tony was back in the limelight. Sad to see him leave to join Furphy at Sheffield but glad to see him gracing the same pitch as Pele. How do you compare him to current players? You can't, I just wish we had him back in his pomp today.

Great talent or not. £1m for us at this current juncture is a hefty fee to spend. Spending that on a 17 year old central midfielder would say to me that the hierarchy don't know what the team needs at this moment in time to succeed and prevent relegation.

Nevertheless, he was fit and available for selection by the time he was sold so if he turns out to be a huge success Im sure you'll agree selling him for £1m will represent dropping a fairly major bollock?

Brönner was on the Guardians list of Europe's greatest talents born in 08 last year. I didn't see enough of him last season to form an opinion, but his team were dreadful despite having an OK squad and went down against the odds.

Excellent Ian! If Im being honest I prefer the darker blue on the 1975 Centenary kit but it's still a very nice effort with some serious thought put into it back from the days when the Club didn't fuck up everything they laid their hands on.

The senior team is already full of kids, we sold most of the squad with any experience.

A few years ago I was sick of Mowbray not taking the Cups seriously and thought when JDT arrived at the Club that the powers that be had suddenly decided to take them seriously because they'd decreed we needed all the money we could get. Well, we still do, and the Cup runs under JDT were wonderful for morale which frankly we need a boost of even more at the moment after one win in ten.

It may have been coincidence, or may have been related to payment bonuses if he plays more. I have however for a while found it strange how many injuries we get every season, and also every player whos injured seems to be out for a number of weeks/months. Never just 1 or 2 weeks. Is something lacking with the medical/fitness/physio dept at the club? Wouldnt be surprised.

Another day, another ridiculous conspiracy theory. In fact he fractured his back which put him out for 4 months, and then having got back to fitness dislocated his shoulder. He confirmed both injuries in interviews ,

I get that we do need to rotate our squad which is not fit for purpose. But I think if I was going that I would at least want to see a competitive side. That should be possible with rotation, it seemingly wont be here. If you was willing to disregard the cup to that degree, as if it doesnt matter, then I dont even see why you would bother going. Surely a more fitting mindset would be that you understand a few will be changed but you are still desperate to see us progress.

It will make no difference whatsoever to whether we stay up or go down Parson. It would be just forfeiting a game.

I would be around 14 at the time and lived on Revidge Rd. There were many, many times I would walk to Ewood from home and wait outside the players entrance just to see Tony Field and get his autograph.. He never refused, must have got his signature a dozen times. God bless Tony and thank you

Does anyone have one of the shirts brought out to mark the 125th anniversary? I didnt get one myself but they were quite a nice effort in Cambridge blue and white halves as I recall?

I was exactly the same. Saw a promising youngster who's body seemingly couldn't keep up and thought it best he moved on. I question everything that happens at Ewood these days though and have to wonder about his lack of playing time here given everything we know.

I'd sell those 3 straight away. Fair play to Cantwell. At least someone gives a s***!
