v Ipswich Town (h) - 20/9/25

Well its pretty concerning that it's only September and we've already fallen victim to the rain. Granted it pissed down a LOT that afternoon but there's bound to be nervousness now every time it rains when we're at home. Away fans will look on anxiously before travelling depending on the forecast. It shouldn't really be like this, but it is, and there's no solution in sight. Derby must be breathing a sigh of relief though as large elements of our fans are now directing hatred towards Ipswich instead....you'd think they'd left a tap on somewhere. - Today

The big issue is that the law is patently poorly written, and by leaving it to a committee, you are leaving it open to a subjective judgment. Two things need to happen in the future. A much more detailed law about abandoned games needs to be written in terms of score, reason, timing, and indeed quality of the pitch. Secondly, we need to fix our pitch. -

I'm not sure what rise above it means in this context as I'm not fucking grieving over it. I was just pointing out a strangeness. -

So not the same situation as us. Thats fair. The EFL could have set a new precedent here. Bottled it has I knew they would -

No, obviously any team is always going to lobby for whichever outcome suits them best. You can't blame Ipswich for that. However you'd hope the EFL blessed by absolute discretion within their guidelines would take on board the representations from each Club, but ultimately arrive at the fairest overall solution in any given case. Which obviously hasn't happened here. I bet if you sent a survey out to the 72 Championship Clubs asking a neutral question about what should happen in a hypothetical situation similar to Saturday's, not one would say there should be a full replay under completely different conditions to the remainder of the original game. -

Obviously none are exactly the same. You wont get 2 identical cases, only similar ones. Rotherham v Cardiff in 2023 and Leyton Orient in 2023 were both 1 nil, one was abandoned before and one after the time elapsed in our game. Without a red card. My point was that you can question the precedent used in terms of direct comparability. But this game being replayed is not down to some sort of agenda against Rovers, its nothing to do with anything anyone of an Ipswich persuasion has done. Theyve just followed the same treatment as in other abandoned games, even if they arent exactly the same. Whether its fair enough, thats a different question. Ultimately there is no way to resolve this in a truly fair and accurate way, the game was correctly abandoned and that obviously leaves a huge problem. But its not a choice made because anyone doesnt like Rovers. - Yesterday

Exactly my point from day 1. What other historical cases are like ours? 1 nil up and vs 10 men plus 10 minutes left -

Nonsense. All because of an abandoned fixture. They may have some numpties posting twaddle on their forum but in general they are a good bunch. Nothing to see here. -

It is what it is fellas! Wasting your time bleating about the rights on wrongs on here as nowt will change. How about we turn our sour attitudes into a positive one and beat the tractor boys in the rearranged fixture. Most on here seem to think we will get beat. On what evidence? From my perspective, I've yet to see a stand out team. May be Norwich but they are a one man team in Sergeant. Christ almighty.. Get some perspective and grow up. It is what it is. -

Pretty obvious watching the EFL highlights the there was widespread rain that day but other clubs played on without difficulty. Quite clear that Ewood has a particular problem which the club has ignored and just hoped for the best. That could cost us 3 valuable points this season and who knows how important that could be? Rovers should be announcing that its calling in experts to engineer a lasting solution to a long-standing problem but the club is silent on this matter thus far. Going to continue flying by the seat of your pants are we? One thing is for sure, we won't get away with it next time we are the only club who can't complete a fixture. Fix now or get big fines? -

One surprising aspect of this whole sorry saga is what a shocking bunch Ipswich fans are. I've known a few over the years and they've always seemed decent grounded folk. Years ago when Rovers and Ipswich were in the PL they were always a decent humble bunch. So I was happy when they got promoted last year and hoped they'd stay up. A year in the PL has turned them into Man Utd fans from the 90's but without the trophy cabinet to back it up. -

if There's 4000 wanting to come Rovers will always make them available. Looks like our attendances will be up this year because of well-supported away fans. Does the club care? One;y about the money. -

I believe if we can't come to an agreement on the date, the EFL decide for us - and we have three open midweek slots before Christmas. -

The rules. The minimum they can be given is 2,000. -
Especially when number 6 was traditionally a central defender and they're talking about holding midfielders. What pisses me off the most is that this bullshit hipster terminology is just describing something that already existed and had a name. Pressing - Closing down Low block - sitting back Number 6 - Holding midfielder Number 8 - Attacking midfielder There's many more that are even more infuriating. Some of them make sense, like when someone says 'transition' I get what they're on about but some of them are just complete shite. The thing that makes the new age hipster terminology so intolerable is that it comes with an air of smugness and condensation as though you're some kind of neanderthal because you don't know what the fuck these pricks are on about when they're talking about a double pivot or some other bollocks. Especially when these cretins don't even know what skinning a fullback is. All this talk of philosophy as well. Fuck off. The only philosophy in football is to win the game. Anything else is just a piss poor way of coaches covering up their own ineptitude. We've had years of this ahit now and the game is the most boring and turgid it's ever been. Bring back the days of sending it down the channels and banging it into the box.

My point is that they havent made the decision to spite our club or to favour Ipswich. Or to appease McKenna. Historical cases have in the main had the same outcome. You could argue that the precedent is flawed because each case was different in terms of the timing of the abandonment and the state of the game, and its the easy option. But I dont think this idea that they hate us or that it would have been different if the score was the other way round is anything other than unfounded bitterness and frustration manifesting into unreasonable conclusions. -

Would have been interesting had Ipswich been 1-0 up and us down to 10 men. Would they have been so keen to come off the pitch and support the referee’s and subsequent EFL’s decision? -

Well of course that is true. But replaying the whole game makes the outcome even less certain than it was at the point the game was abandoned! It isn’t logic! -

Say what you want but this makes 0 sense to me. What if the score was 3-0 or 4-0 would we still need to replay the match in full?
