Would be nice for the EFL to look at that and say due to their conduct, result stands and no replay. They won't, but still. I wouldn't be thrilled as an Ipswich fan if the team were celebrating a match abandonment. Total loser's mentality.

In English league football (including the EFL Championship where Blackburn and Ipswich are now), the rules are pretty clear when a match is abandoned: The result at the time of abandonment does not stand – unless the league specifically rules otherwise (very rare, usually only if the game is abandoned extremely late, e.g. after 90 mins + injury time). The game is usually replayed in full, starting 0–0, with both sides having 11 players available again. Any goals, cards, and the match situation at the time of abandonment are wiped from the official record. So in your example: Blackburn’s 1–0 lead wouldn’t count. Ipswich would not have to finish with 10 men. The game would be rescheduled and played again in its entirety. 👉 The only exception would be if the EFL or FA chose to let the score stand (e.g. if it was abandoned extremely late and the outcome was effectively decided), but 80 minutes is still short of that threshold — so almost certainly, it would be a full replay.

Piss take but could only happen at Rovers in this era at Championship level. Apparently around the similar point in their game the ball was sticking to the pitch at Chorley were it has belted down non stop all day but the ref carried on with only a fraction of the game left. Pathetic on all counts really. Ref has done Ipswich proud there.

The main issue is, and always has been the fact that the pitch drains into the river. If the river is overflowing there's nowhere for the water to go. I'm not sure what the answer is but I'm pretty sure it's not the pitch itself that's the problem

There's always grey areas. Could be has to be the same players if available. Can sub in others for injured. The authorities are always banging on about protecting "the integrity of the sport". I can't see how a full replay of this match does that. Damages the integrity for me.

I agree with this point in theory but how can you guarantee exactly the same players will be available on any new date? Don't think there's a cat in hell's chance this doesn't get replayed from scratch.

If there were financial penalties they'd do something about it.

Tinpot doesn't even begin to describe it. We're an absolute embarrassment at all levels. Owners/management with a modicum of self respect would have sorted something after the first washout. We all knew something like this was going to happen, the only surprise is that it happened after 80 mins, we all thought it would be called off at the last minute before the game again. As a temporary fix, surely my idea of covering the pitch until just before kick off would have allowed for an extra 10-15 mins and the game to be completed? The forecast was known in advance for days.

The only fair resolution is play the final 10 with the circumstances the same , ie same players 11v10. else a pen shoot out , we win result stands, they win , draw. The most unfair is a full replay from scratch

Let’s just beat them 2nd time around. Fuck it. We were the better team and if there is such a thing as karma, we will beat them again. Wharton and Trondstad were awesome. Toth as well. No way they were going to score. Onwards and upwards. Take the positives and win the next one.

I feel we may have some hope given Ipswich were a man down and conceded a penalty both of which need punishing. The FA can’t just ignore that those rule infractions took place and there needs to be a punishment. It’s also the referee who represents the FA who chose to start the second half when the forecast was known and at this point it was 0-0 and 11v11. I hope there is someone at the club making these points to the ref and the FA!
