BlueMonday Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 John Williams was on radio lancs tonight talking about the takeover, basically they are still talking to potential investors and there is no imminent deal. Looks like this is going to drag on. Reading between the lines there, sounds like the DW trail is going cold. Could be the rumour is true.

Hughesy Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Dont like how its dragging on - to me it doesnt look promising!
b12_simon Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Dont like how its dragging on - to me it doesnt look promising! In the meantime we've got the Walker Trust, John Williams and Mark Hughes at the helm. The January transfer window is months away. No rush at all IMO.
Guest fernhurstblue Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 if the takeover doesn't go through, is it really the end of the world? we are doing just fine as we are ..... additional investment would be good, but at what cost in the long term?
BlueMonday Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 The deal has to be right. If these guys can't raise the cash and convince the trustees that they are a good for the future of the club, we or the board shouldn't be in any rush to do a deal. Personally, I think thses guys never had the financial clout needed for sustained investment. DW only ever had unknown 'backers' for his financing. Its like asking all your anties and uncles to lend you the money to buy a Playstation and then never having any money to buy new games.

Without the extra investment, would Hughes stick around much longer? I suspect not, he's a very ambitious guy.

The Man u job might, or might not be offered to Hughes though. If he has to make and mend with rovers - on the financial restraints that he possibly has to now, he might be off before the United job is up for grabs.

philipl Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Ferguson last week said Queiroz should follow him but also said he has no idea whom the board are thinking of. Looking around, I think Spurs following last month's carry on is a total no-no. I am sure Sparky would take very kindly to a main board member censoring his Manager's Notes and that is the least of the problems he would face as the Director of Football is responsible for deciding what players to buy and Levy dabbles in deal making. West Ham and Pompey have eccentric management/ownership, Newcastle and Man City are surely not going to come vacant soon, Arsenal clearly has no vacancy, Raffa seems safe, Mourinho will be replaced by a megastar or an Abramovich yes man depending on Roman's whim of the time, Moyes is OK at Everton, ditto O'Neill at Villa so by a process of elimination there is only BIG CLUB we need worry about.
Guest fernhurstblue Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 not BIG CLUB ..... thats it, get an advert in the LET for a new club manager!!!!!

I agree with everything you say except for spurs, if we keep winning and spurs don't and then sack Jol I think they would go for Hughes and IF we didn't have any more investment I think Hughes would go, just like souness did with newcastle (even though I was glad when he went !). The prospect of having Hughes in charge with a transfer kitty of 20 million is mind blowing but without the investment I think we will be lucky to have Hughes here for another season.

Different circumstance. When the board heard of the offer for Souness they put him in a car so fast he could be in no doubt of their feelings. Hughes would be locked in the boot room and not allowed out unless under supervision. We also wouldn't release him from his contract.
AndyC Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 so were the stories just designed to keep players at the club before the transfer window closed? or keep sparky at the club? conspiracy theory mode off.

I would think that he's still on a rolling contract, so we can't really stop him from leaving if he wants to go.
nicko Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 I should be able to shed a bit more light on what has been happening over the past few days in the Sunday People tomorrow. Hopefully all of the details are used. If not I will stick them on here. Not being a tease, just keeping the details to myself until the paper comes out. Leave it at that just now...
brian_gallagher85 Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Boo... pushing paper sales again, it better be worth my while to flick through it in the morning at work
RevidgeBlue Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 There's a piece in the People this morning from Nicko claiming the Williams take over is "close to collapse." Reasons cited are pressure of his other business interests and one of his financial backers having suffered a heart attack. Ah well, at least he'll have time to update his website now. No disrespect intended to nicko but the thing being "Close to collapse" seems to be overstating things somewhat, that infers that there was ever something in it in the first place. As far as Rovers are officially letting on, despite all the rhetoric, there's never been any official bid, or inspection of the books. Can't help thinking the whole thing has been a huge spoof from start to finish. They'll be enjoying this in Southampton this morning.
Billy Castell Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Well if it is true, then good. I'd rather have the current set up than a bunch of half-arsed money men who might keel over if Nelsen misses a clearancefrom the penalty area. Still wouldlike someone to give us a bit more money though!
RevidgeBlue Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Nicko does also say, and I fully agree with this, that whatever the outcome of this particular bid, it doesn't alter the long term situation that we do need money from somewhere both to keep things going well and to keep Mark Hughes happy.

Without having access to the full facts the smoke signals as I read them suggest that the whole thing was very flimsy and had feet of clay from the start. I have never felt that there was ever enough financial clout behind Dan Williams. Reminds me of the story of Daedalus and Icarus.

Poor 'owd Walt must have his head in his hands this morning thinking of what he could have done with a cool million.......dont forget to ask for your Rovers history book back off Dan the man the 'BIG' Rovers fan!! F'kin sham from start to finish.
Mozzer Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 to be honest i dont think were in a rush to get a takeover... yes the extra money would be good, but mark hughes has picked up some brilliant players for small fee's....id wait until next summer if we had to, aslong as we find a right buyer..
philipl Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 This whole Dan Williams episode has sold a few papers but other than that has not been of help to anybody.
MCMC1875 Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 This whole Dan Williams episode has sold a few papers but other than that has not been of help to anybody. Except to DW and his pals who probably got some free hospitality and match tickets late last season.
