eddiewac Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Well it must be Defoe or Adriano, never heard of that other kid, Guido San Andreas , and i reckon would be a great signing, with a decent run in the team i cant see why he couldnt get back to his best saying that Gudjohnsen would be a class signing but that'll never happen
The1mattjansen Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I will my walk through Burnley wearing nothing but a rovers thong if we sign Defoe or Adriano. How long will it take people to realise we are not in the running for world superstars any more, if we ever were.

tony gale's mic Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 defoe's hardly a world superstar, i'd say benni mac had a higher profile than him. agreed on adriano though.
ihateburnley Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 never heard of that other kid, Guido San Andreas ROFL
tchocky Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 He's got more assists than MGP, so he must be a great player by your standards. In how many seasons? So my standards are defined by you pulling one fact from one post then? Did I only mention that one asset in my post? Never said MGP was great either. I said he's a valuable asset and selling him this January would be premature. However if it happens I will support Hughes' judgement. Anyway, this doesn't belong in this thread.
LWX Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 How long will it take people to realise we are not in the running for world superstars any more, if we ever were. Early to mid 90s.
Dave S Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Marcotti was on radio 5 this week. One of the players discussed was Adriano. Apparently he is on leave at a training camp where he is considered over weight and attempting to overcome mental problems of some sort. Inter want to get him off the wage bill. I think his wage of approx £100k per week was mentioned.
bluebruce Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 'IT'S A SIGNING, BUT IT WOULD NEED A DEPARTURE TO FINANCE IT...AND THAT REALLY IS THE FINAL CLUE.' I'm assuming Benni out if he's having a paddy, or maybe Roberts if we can get 3-4 mill for him. And sounds like you're talking about Defoe to me. Almost certainly him or Adriano given your clues.
nicko Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Considering I am in a good mood about tonight's half time/full-time triumph at Wolves...here's the story - but feel free to buy the People for more details. The dream target is Nicolas Anelka. He is the player at the top of the wish list and it has a better chance than you might think. Bolton will sell at the right price and the big clubs linked are not that sure. Portsmouth and West Ham were close last window and may yet be the opposition. So why not Rovers? I think Anelka could be talked into it if Sparky got the chance to sell the idea to him. Obviously someone would have to leave to pay for him and his wages which is why I think you have to watch the McCarthy situation. Incidentally, all credit to the guy who heard the rumour a few days back...if he wants to tell me more I am listening. I can't say it will happen, but I think - like Bellamy two years - that it is a long shot worth chasing and possibly landed.

Well that wouldn't be bad either but I am sure there are a large amount of people that this will upset on this board.
Ricky Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 One of the most lethel strikers in the league on his day, just not sure about the baggage that goes with him.
rebelmswar Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 One of the most lethel strikers in the league on his day, just not sure about the baggage that goes with him. I think RSC would be an excellent strike partner for him though, with the way he plays.
bluebruce Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Wow. I can't see that though Nicko. Swapping one moaner for another just two years younger. He's inevitably going to cost more than we would get for Benni too, due to his massive pedigree, the large price they paid for him, and the almost undeniable fact that they're going down if they sell him. Further, it would mean us outbidding some pretty big clubs...United were reputed to be interested in the summer. How we can do that on our budget, when other clubs can't pay the same price despite a prolifacy of funds, I don't know. Plus, I can't see Anelka being interested really. Even when Bolton were roughly where we are, he basically wanted out to a Champions League team. I know we were supposed to be tracking him when Bolton got him, but I just don't think I can see this one happening, for too many reasons. I suppose it's worth keeping tabs on...but everyone in the league who can afford him is going to want him (Portsmouth, City, Newcastle, Villa, West Ham, maybe even Spurs if they offload one of their strikers) Don't get me wrong, very good player, but I don't see it coming off. If Hughes got the 10 million he would probably need for Nic, I would expect him to be more likely to spend it on bargains- and to concentrate first and foremost on the midfield, which I think needs drastic rennovation. Unless Hughes is resigned to losing Benni.
rebelmswar Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Read the "Why would Anelka want to leave his Bolton cocoon?" part of this article. Things that make you go hmmm. ClickyTypeThing
philipl Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 you mean this? Anelka. No team should have him. Every move of his has benefited the selling club by subsequent results. Bolton should take the money and Man City shouldn't fall for the same mistake twice. I hope Man United get him.
nicko Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Anelka is not the trouble people think he is. The Bolton players like him, I know some at Liverpool who said the same thing. He wants to play in a good side and be chasing prizes. It is also a pre-World Cup year for him. I know you would have little chance if one of the Big Four came in, but I believe they won't. I hope I'm right. Man City seem to be after Adriano...I don't know why, now there really is baggage. Portsmouth and West Ham are threats because of their money. However - like Bellamy - I think this one can be pulled off against the odds. All I can tell you is that he is the one they will go to the limits for. I think he would be superb with Roque as it happens.
thenodrog Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 never heard of that other kid, Guido San Andreas Good player but he has a few faults.
ihateburnley Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Not a chance. Nicko - firstly this isn't a dream move by any stretch of the imagination for us. Sure, he's a cracking player on his day (but so is McCarthy) and is possibly slightly better than what we have got already. Secondly, I don't think we can afford him. I'd be surprised if we spend £8m (at least the amount required IMO) anytime soon unless we sell one of our more valuable assets (which I can't see happening) or we qualify for the Champions League (which isn't going to happen either). Last but not least, I think there would be bigger clubs out there willing to spend on Anelka, possibly even clubs that already in the Champions League. Yes he wouldn't need to move home but apart from that what else can Rovers offer?
nicko Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Nicko - firstly this isn't a dream move by any stretch of the imagination for us. Sure, he's a cracking player on his day (but so is McCarthy) and is possibly slightly better than what we have got already. I THINK HE IS A BETTER PLAYER AND POTENTIALLY A BETTER PARTNER FOR ROQUE. Secondly, I don't think we can afford him. I'd be surprised if we spend £8m (at least the amount required IMO) anytime soon unless we sell one of our more valuable assets (which I can't see happening) or we qualify for the Champions League (which isn't going to happen either). IF THE FEE IS AROUND 10M THEN IT IS WITHIN RANGE, BUT OBVIOUSLY MCCARTHY WOULD HAVE TO GO TO PAY FOR IT...AND TO TAKE A BIG WEIGHT OFF THE PAYROLL. Last but not least, I think there would be bigger clubs out there willing to spend on Anelka, possibly even clubs that already in the Champions League. Yes he wouldn't need to move home but apart from that what else can Rovers offer? THAT IS THE STUMBLING BLOCK, BUT I REPEAT THAT I DON'T THINK THE BIG FOUR ARE COMING FOR HIM. APART FROM ANYTHING ELSE IT'S NOT WHAT I THINK...IT IS, ACCORDING TO MY SOURCE, WHAT THE MANAGER WANTS. THAT'S WHY I'M DOING THE STORY. IT'S NOT MY OPINION - OR WHAT I THINK THEY SHOULD DO. ALTHOUGH I SHOULD SAY HE WOULD BE THE ONE I WOULD TRY FOR TOO. HE IS TRULY TOP DRAWER.
nicko Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Last week I heard a rumour we're after Anelka. I dismissed it but if Benni's on his way... Great shout...you gave me a shock when you named him so fast. I thought I had it to myself. If you can shed any light on your source let me know. If not, no problem. Cheers.
den Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Mixed feelings about Anelka here. On the one hand, we all know he's technically one of the top players in the world. I don't think that's an overestimation. On the other hand, he's been around a lot. Now I don't agree with the general view that Nicko addressed, that he's a difficult guy to have around. What is a problem is his lack of team play. At City, he was phenomenal as a goalscorer. His talents didn't make City anywhere near a good team though. He was often accused as being selfish and playing only for himself. At Liverpool, lots of people were surprised when Houllier let him go. He scored goals for them, but again the link up play wasn't great. That's my doubt about him. Good player, but for the money needed, will he improve the team?
The1mattjansen Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I'm also extremely dubvious about Anelka, though I won't be getting the thong out for him as he's not exactly playing for a world beating team at the moment is he. If Benni were to go then presumably it would be to West Ham anyway, thus taking them out of the race and leaving it between ourselves and Pompey. How about West Ham have them both and we'll take Bellers back.
Flopsy Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 it would stop the bugger always scoring against us.
