USABlue Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Grant requests to those two then how can Hughes say no with conviction to someone he most certainly does not want to lose? Particularly if he has deliberately or otherwise not made himself popular in the dressing room following the unacceptable recent performances and they are all bruised and unhappy. As it is these two have both very publicly put themselves in the shop window. I think we will find the Rovers have the financial strength to be able to buy before they sell and both these guys know that as well. There are no suggestions that the requests went in during the Hughes harrangue after West Ham game so they were made after some reflection/thinking time. In which case these transfer requests strengthen the view that starting XI forward and midfielder are on the January shopping list and messrs Roberts and Mokoena can only see themselves slipping down the picking order. My feelings are simple, if they don't want to be there get shut. We can call 'em professionals all we want but the fact of the matter is if someones heart is not in the job it's highly likely they are not doing their best, in most walks of life I would say. If that player happens to be someone we don't want to lose then so be it that's too bad. The last thing we want our boss to be seen to be doing is being manipulated by the players that stick their bottom lips out. As they say over here, don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out.

ihateburnley Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 At the moment I am pretty sure that I would rather Roberts be in the team ahead of McCarthy. What Benni has in technique, Roberts makes up for in power, pace, workrate and determination. In a nutshell - Roberts is playing better even though he's only coming on for 20 minutes here and 15 minutes there.

Mozzer Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 rumour saying we are interested in steve sidwell??? just wondering if theres any truth in that??? all i know is we need some new players..the 4 players that seem to be unhappy are savage, mokoena, roberts and mcarthy-if a suitable offer came in for each of those, i think we should sell.. something isnt right behind the scenes, and i would think there the problem..
Eddie Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Sidwell would be a great signing, but I'd worry about the fee and wages.
Paul Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 I watched Anelka last night against City. While I think our midfield needs are more pressing it would be nice to think we could swap McCarthy for him. Direct, fast, strong with no small amount of skill. You have to feel for Roberts. He deserves a chance, he may prove to be poor, but he cannot contribute any less than McCarthy does. I've forgotten the reason Mokoena wants to leave. Can anyone explain?

Even if Bolton/Anelka/Rovers were happy to do that swap there is no way Benni's Big Head would allow him to goto Bolton.

thenodrog Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Sidwell would be a great signing, but I'd worry about the fee and wages. Why are you paying them eddie? btw is'nt Sidwell being viewed as a loan signing by Sunderland and/or Reading? Wages only would be acceptable I think.

There's not been any signs of this being a direct "swap" though, isn't it selling Benni to whoever is interested to fund Anelka?

ffan Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 What does that have to do with what I said? I can't work the quotes properly and was in response to Sidwell.
S15 Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 I have serious doubts over whether Anelka would even bother swapping Bolton for us. I mean, what would be the point, we finish above them one year, them above us the next. It would be a very crab like move.
1864roverite Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Reading the media this morning and there is very very little about BRFC potential transfers both in and out. If McCarthy is wanting out he aint doing himself any favours with his recent performances and I cannot see anyone coming in for him with the appropriate funds, not even City. If its right Savage wants out, and I dont believe he does, then again, its still going to cost the buyer 2m or more to get him. Should Rovers release Roberts, then we do need a replacement of suitable quality and that will cost money, there are not many players around available for a loan deal striker wise due to ANC. Rovers need a quality central midfielder, and for me, Huddlestone fits the bill nicely, and thats who we should IMo concentrate on buying. So if we have the correct sums in the media, then 2m (Savage) + 3m (Roberts), we have an added 5m to any potential funds that the club are making available. Should McCarthy be sold, then we have to reasonably expect a fee of around 3.5m for him. even with that type of fee incoming, I still dont see how we can afford Anelka and his extortionate wages. I am certain that Hughesy has his ideas and mind made up as to who comes and who goes, it will be an intriguing January.
gumboots Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 So what about the Bentley to one of the big spanish clubs rumour that's in the mirror today?
John Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Derby and Wigan are set to battle it out for Blackburn midfielder Robbie Savage. Jason Roberts has revealed his desire to quit Blackburn in January. Blackburn midfielder David Bentley is a £10million target for Valencia and Atletico Madrid.

Can we afford to lose Bentley even at 10 million? So many players appear to want out of Rovers and it has me slightly worried.
Ricky Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 NOTW has a story saying Routledge and Huddlestone are leaving in January. Said before I would like to see us go for Huddlestone, I know its been discussed on here quite a bit.
Wiggy Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Derby and Wigan are set to battle it out for Blackburn midfielder Robbie Savage. Dave Whelan was keen on Savage but has lost interest since his big injury.
gumboots Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 It doesn't suggest anywhere that Bentley wants to go to Spain - it even says he's happy where he is - it's just them who want him and the suggestion is that playing for a bigger club might help his England career. However bench warming in Spain isn't going to do him much good at all.
Paul Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 There's not been any signs of this being a direct "swap" though, isn't it selling Benni to whoever is interested to fund Anelka? I didn't mean a direct swap, i.e Anelka to us and Benni to Bolton. I meant get rid of Benni and bring in Anelka or at least some who isn't going to sulk all match.
