nicko Posted March 20, 2008 Author Posted March 20, 2008 We're talking "rovers" here? Not your beloved Scotland. Beloved Jags please. Yes, Rovers. Interesting.

nicko Posted March 20, 2008 Author Posted March 20, 2008 when does the embargo end?? About 11. Don't have to wait up...it's good but not that good.
Ricky Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Bentley new contract signed possibly. Or some possible financial backing on the Horizon
Jan Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 About 11. Don't have to wait up...it's good but not that good. OK I had my eyes lasered last Friday and have been doing days that have lasted between 12 and 15 hours, so I'll take up that kind offer and log in again tomorrow.
Atomicrover Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 About 11. Don't have to wait up...it's good but not that good. 11.00pm is a strange time, is that to coincide with any particular time in another country perhaps?
only2garners Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 11.00pm is a strange time, is that to coincide with any particular time in another country perhaps? I imagine it's when it appears in the first edition of Nicko's paper.
philipl Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Eyes lasered? Does that mean you can burn Abbey to a smouldering crisp with a single glance? ...he wrote at the risk of den flaming this post....
Backroom trueblue Posted March 20, 2008 Backroom Posted March 20, 2008 ...he wrote at the risk of den flaming this post.... Why? Has Den had his eyes lasered too ?
den Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Why? Has Den had his eyes lasered too ? No, but he's had two lens's cut out and replaced, - without anaesthetic. How's that for hard? D'you lot know I was compared to Stalin this morning, by one of our much respected members?
John Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Looking forward to this 'surprising' news!! Tick tock.......
nicko Posted March 20, 2008 Author Posted March 20, 2008 The transfer kitty is bigger and healthier than expected. The boss seemed happier about the amount he has to spend today than he has been for some time. It looks like there will be faces - plural - and around £10 million to spend [my estimate]. From what I hear there will be at least two coming in - no names as yet - and if any leave then there could be more. Anyway, far more optimistic than in the last window. Could be something to write about over the summer after all too.
John Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Nicko - good news obviously. Out of interest, any idea why we will have more money to spend?
nicko Posted March 20, 2008 Author Posted March 20, 2008 Nicko - good news obviously. Out of interest, any idea why we will have more money to spend? The money 'saved' in January, the Sav sale and making sure a decent slice of the TV cash goes to the manager. I think there is also as realisation that they need to keep him sweet. Quite right too.
John Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Good stuff, agree. Hughes is a class act, will be interesting to see what he can do with a bit more money to spend in the market.
tony gale's mic Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Excellent news. Any more news on Bentley nicko? I know you've answered this so many times but not many of the quotes are looking good. All I really want is for us to tie him up one more year, until 2012. That would pave the way for him to cement a place in the England squad, hopefully play for England in South Africa 2010 and then we can trigger a bidding war across Europe for him. At the moment his current contract would make it likely he'll leave next summer if not this summer with the right offer.
Ricky Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I'd rather they hadn't told anyone we have more money. much easier to drive a bargain when everyone thinks you're skint. Wouldnt mind splashing a bit on Bullard if Fulham go down, I know they were keen on Roberts at one stage so there could always be a bit of dealing done there.

AggyBlue Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I think there is also as realisation that they need to keep him sweet. More a realisation that new faces are needed. Top quality ones.
joshbrfc Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 True! we need to invest in the summer and add to the quality we already have! we have some top quality players.. Santa Cruz was a brilliant buy but how many times this season has he scored 1 or 2 or more in games and we ave lost. we need to add to the quality we already have, also add more competetion to our side.
bob fleming Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Pompey aren't my favourite team, I just find it hard to escape the following bites of reality... They have more points. They are odds on to win the biggest domestic cup. They have a just as good if not better keeper. A better defence. A better midfield. A better set of strikers. More strength in depth. Play more entertaining football. (Certainly IMO) And more money. Better atmosphere from home supporters Warmer weather. A supporter who rings a bell for 90 minutes. A manager with a comedy twitch. The sea. To be honest I don't know why everyone in Blackburn doesn't support Portsmouth. If it wasn't for the fact that I live in Blackburn and would find the 534 mile round journey a little challenging I'd certainly be getting a season ticket. As it is though I shall continue going to the Rovers. I still support Rovers. And still will in 2010. In the Championship. Good man. Keep up your grate support.

The transfer window is around two months away etc, etc. Would this be connected to ST sales?

Are you annoyed because I and one or two others have alarmed one or two of the locals that Pompey, and equal sized club to ourselves have overtaken us on and off the pitch over the past 9-12 months? Are you annoyed because you like/d to pretend that perhaps it isn't true? Everton and Villa have as well, will you get all touchy about this, or is it the same old pathetic 'hatred for all things similar' alot of Blackburn fans have. So I will continue my great support, however much that may grate at you. And maybe just maybe if we do spend the money Nicko has suggested next season we can maintain our european push until the end, having the momentum come the end of March, and win the FA Cup just to top it off.
