thenodrog Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Fantastic idea, but won't happen. And money should be no object - you just trousered the best part of £5 million for your previous boss and his team. Go on then .... why include Shearer? That 5mill would be better put into getting Huddleston or similar. I'd just about wear it if AS would come as Ten Cate's assistant for the same money Bowen was on.... but I dont think they'd ever get on.

broadsword Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Where did you get 3 years from? As far as I know, the HP saucy gits had to guarantee it up front before talks began.
thenodrog Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Aren't we getting the compensation over 3 years? So what? We'll hardly be paying the new manager 'up front' will we?

adopted scouser Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 I'd just about wear it if AS would come as Ten Cate's assistant I don't want to be Ten Cate's assistant, couldn't take the cut in wages And what's this American in Paris m'larky ??
jprover4life Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 nicko, do you know if Rovers are aware of Laudrups availability? he would be my choice, shown he can do well with a relatively small club on a small budget.Surely he'd be the ideal man for the job??

I believe they are well aware...but I don't have a 'line' into that one, so my info on that front is sketchy.
RovertheHill Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 That isn't what I said at all. It would be ridiculous to appoint a guy with absolutely no level of experience at coaching or management to the day-to-day life of a Premiership manager. I mentioned Hughes, Klinsmann etc as they had gone from playing to national team management and then gone into club management, a much better way of doing it as there's many components of league management that arent there in national team management so it "eased" them in slightly (although it was still going in at the deep end somewhat, especially in Klinsmann's case). Wasn't that what Liverpool did with Kenny Dalglish? Didn't he win a double with them? That said, what about Vialli and Gullit - so there's arguments both ways Ooops - just read 2 pages back and noticed we've had this debate already. Ooops, must keep up
joey_big_nose Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Be well funny though Bry if City were still paying for Hughes 2.5 years after he'd left. Sven left City while England were still paying him, same deal now he has just been sacked. The Mexico salary will probably only be about 20% of his yearly incomings.....
DanLad Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Up front. I must have dreamt the 3 years! (I thought I'd read it in the MEN) Thanks, Nicko!
Plastic Head Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 On the Sant Cruz gossip, if he is going we should not be underselling. See the top 5 scorers last season. Based on this and the fact he still has 3 years on his contract we should be looking for an absolute minimum of £20M and hoping for £25M Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester United 31 Proposed fee to Real or Barca £40M ++ Emmanuel Adebayor Arsenal 24 Proposed fee to AC Milan £25M Fernando Torres Liverpool 24 Cost Liverpool £26.5M Roque Santa Cruz Blackburn 19 Dimitar Berbatov Tottenham 15 Cost 10.9M Proposed fee to AC Milan £25M
Oklahoma Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Inter want bentley? Just read it in an italian site!! Mourinho, please take him for 25 million €
PAFELL Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 I'm starting to think the same way Paul.If Shearer gets the right men with him(I did say I was worried about his lack of experience) this could be very successful and will certainly put bums on seats down at Ewood this coming season, the town really would be buzzing again. Its a gamble but I suppose so is life to an extent but lets put it this way THE WHOLE OF BLACKBURN WOULD BE RIGHT BEHIND HIM! Chelsea had Henk cate with them when Grant was manager - so if peole on here would want Shearer plus somebody else to support him why not shearer and henk cate
Bobby G Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Has he? So I guess he didnt think it was worth waiting for the interviews to finish up, possibly 7 - 10 days, the risk in which was losing the high paying Greek job.
Oklahoma Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 According to the site calciomercato, yes http://www.calciomercato.com/index.php?c=24&a=83942
LeChuck Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 why not shearer and henk cate Ten Cate has only been number two at Barcelona and Chelsea...and he left his position as Ajax's manager to be Chelsea's number two. There's absolutely no way he'd be an assistant with us, never in a million years. I'm surprised he's expressed interest in the main job to be honest.
Alan75 Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 What's the story here? Warnock says Mark Hughes was one of the reasons he joined the club
philipl Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 According to the site calciomercato, yes http://www.calciomercato.com/index.php?c=24&a=83942 That is very disappointing to have lost "Candidate B". Obviously ties in with ten Cate's name disappearing from the voting on the official site.
Hi Mack Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 That is very disappointing to have lost "Candidate B". Obviously ties in with ten Cate's name disappearing from the voting on the official site. Gutted, i think he could have been the man to carry on from where hughes left off! He's got a good footballing brain and has been a round the block! Oh well, shearer or laudrup now!
nicko Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Ten Cate has NOT signed for Panathiaikos...please. He has gone on holiday to Barbados, he will come back and talk to Rovers if they want to. If not, he probably goes to Panathinaikos.
Antgrad Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Well if it's true I don't see anyone diving on Betfair and picking up the free money for laying him.
