Alan75 Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Manchester City have made an approach for Mark Hughes, link
Iceman Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Paul do you think,Abromovich mistake was not the sacking of Mourinho, but allowing Grant to take charge for the rest of the season.Grant did well, but im sure if they had gotten a so called high profile guy in,would the sack have happened if it was lets say Wenger or Scolari who did what Grant had achieved?somehow there were conflicting interests, and who wanted and did not want Grant to take the reigns, when Mourinho left.
Cocker Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Manchester City have made an approach for Mark Hughes, link Even if this was true I would think Hughes would look at it like the Newcastle situation. The board isnt stable enough for him to take it. He would probably be out of a job in a year. Not worried at all by Man City

I think his first and biggest mistake was to sack Mourhino. Appointing Grant was probably a mistake as well, who he appoints now will be interesting and I don't see it being Hughes. Much as we love Sparky he ain't done nothing yet, in the Chelsea context, and doesn't fit the club's need for instant success. To be a success at Chelsea Hughes would have one seaon to win either the Premier League or the Champions League, scoring score goals all the way. He wouldn't do it.
nicko Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 I say that but NOTW thinks it's between Sparky and Ancelotti. The Screws story was written by Rob Beasley, who knows a bit about Chelsea. Look closely and you will see he wrote that they want Sparky - and then his office put in the Ancelotti drivel. It also suits the Screws to play down Sparky because they missed the story last week.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 JESUS WEPT! its going to be one hell of a long close season this one. If Rovers have been approached by Citeh I would like to hear the clubs responce asap please....days/weeks of silence at Ewood will do nobody any good with the press hacks having a field day at our expense.

There has been NO approach from Man City - that was checked Friday and Saturday. It might happen later, but they are not at that stage yet.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 No offense to you nicko but you prove my point then about certain media outlets stirring the pot at every opportunity,Rovers for whatever reason seem to be an easy target for this.

Don't worry about stories that are wrong. The thing is that you have a manager and player or two who have done well and are wanted by clubs with more money. It happens. It would be a lot worse if you had people that nobody else wanted...
philipl Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 I'm reminded of the line in Ripley's Run where the two main characters are in an idyllic house in the Forest of Fontainebleau. "Jonathan put the kettle on, they sat down, and waited for the Mafia to call." They got out of that scrap by garrotting their two visitors but only one of them survives at the end of the book! Anyway, is there any truth that City formally asked permission to talk to Sparky? When vacances come one at a time there is always a chance that Rovers will keep Sparky but when they come in batches it looks bleak. For what its worth, Ferguson has apparently said he will vacate the OT seat before his 70th birthday but I doubt that is much of a factor in Mark Hughes' current deliberations.
Hasta Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Even if this was true I would think Hughes would look at it like the Newcastle situation. The board isnt stable enough for him to take it. He would probably be out of a job in a year. Yes but the vibes for the Newcastle job were that Hughes would take it if he was to be offered it. If he thought that Newcastle might be a progressive step then he'll probably think the same about City.

If he thought that Newcastle might be a progressive step then he'll probably think the same about City. There is NO Man City approach...there was a third-party chat-up call about a month ago and the answer was no. Man City would have to go some to be more attractive than Rovers right now. So relax on that one.
philipl Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 If Hughes went to Chelsea we'd be sad but wish him well personally. If he went to Man City, it would be a kick in the stomach.

Fair enough, I'm just pointing out that if he was to be offered it then Hughes could well see jobs like Newcastle, Man City, Villa and Spurs as a step on from Ewood - whatever we may think.

He obviously had a fancy for Newcastle, it's a club almost every boss thinks they can crack. Villa and Spurs are not coming up. Nobody knows what is going on in the minds of Man City's rulers - probab;y not even themselves. Only a fool would take on Man City without assurances about money, future plans and team interference from above...and your manager is no fool. Chelsea is obviously different. If they come in, he goes. End of chat.

Ricky Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 BBc Rumour section saying Spurs want Bentley and will offer 8m plus Ghaly and Lennon. Any truthin this one Nicko, it's from the People.
tony gale's mic Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 ince to where? Chelsea, apparently. Sure its an anomaly and there's no truth to it, but its very odd theyre offering such short odds.
nicko Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 BBc Rumour section saying Spurs want Bentley and will offer 8m plus Ghaly and Lennon. Any truthin this one Nicko, it's from the People. It would be typical Spurs to try a stupid swap deal...Bentley will only go if the cash offer is right. That's not anywhere near happening with anyone yet.
Eddie Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Am I the only one that thinks that is a pretty good offer? If we could bump that up to 10 million I'd probably bite their hands off.
