newcastle will be lucky to get 3pts in the next 6 weeks, united, hull(a),arsenal,chelsea...................10 weeks ago we had 13pts from 17 games, now we have another 13 from only 9 matches and as long as we don't play the big 5 look like picking at least a point up from every match we are hard to beat and the teams around us are'nt.

since sam too over the gd is positive 13 - 9, and 4 of the 9 conceded in only 2 defeats against villa and united. confident of staying up now, would have bet on us being relegated 1o weeks ago

Don't get me wrong - it was a fantastic result for us today. It was a massive 3 points, the biggest of the season. However we are far from out of it just yet.

The good news is we have a fighting chance, and that it is in our hands. But there are still very few points in it, heck, we are only out of the relegation zone on goal difference. Relegation is still very much a possibility.

Many of the other teams have stronger squads than us (spurs & newcastle) whilst some teams have an easier run in. It can also be guarenteed that one team will go on a good run before the end of the season, taking them out of the equation. I'm hoping that'll be rovers, but we shall see.

However, those are worries for tomorrow, and tonight's for celebrating rovers utterly vital 3 points.

Newcastle looks to have an awful run-in, gotta think/hope they'll finish below us or hopefully relegated.

Agreed, their run-in is a cause of huge concern for any newcastle supporter. Can't see them picking up much from now until the end of the season. Then again, I thought that of Boro and suddenly, two wins in a row (admittedly one being the cup, but it was against a decent premiership team) so who knows...

the thing is The Boro stop people scoring. they did what we did when Allardyce first came in and shut up shop, concentrating on clean sheets. Now they've got that better organised it's given confidence to them to go on and try to score as well. As soon as the goals start coming and they are still not letting them in they get more confident etc. I don't see Newcastle being able to shut up shop - they certainly haven't managed it yet.

That table is wrong Dillo - Pompey have only played the same amount as us.

Also any chance if you can add whether the games are home or away? Thanks

The missing Portsmouth game is away at Man Utd - should have been this weekend but not now scheduled until late April.

As they begin the last lap with just 12 fences to jump the field are still bunched up at the back...

I posted this on the 21st January

I think we need to just concentrate on the next game. There are 8 or 9 clubs at least poorer than us so if we just do the basics right we will stay up. That's what we have done and we are out of the bottom 3, game in hand, home games coming up. Heads have not gone down.

Runners and Riders

Portsmouth - Since drawing at Villa mid October they are on a horrible run which has been easy fixtures against teams in the bottom half plus Arsenal. The big teams are up next. Goal difference one of the worst. Club in financial crises and a manager who has only proved previoulsy he can go backwards. 2 wins in 13, Rovers home luckily and Sunderland away. Relegated - Update - New manager might give them a spark, however the dire state of the club hangs like a storm clouds over Fratton. Relegated

West Brom - Tightened up the defence and are turning territorial advantage in to goals. reinforcements up front should give them enough fire power to pick up points regularly at home and some surprise points n the road. Three consecutive home wins plus unlucky loses at Chelsea and Villa. Safe - Update - Goals dried up again. Looks like they are going down but still playing good football for a team bottom. Might be the Houdini team like Fulham? Relegated

Hull - have they enough points? No! 13 League games without a win and a terrible goal difference. An easy run of fixtures now for 2 months starting away to West Ham and home to West Brom. Relegated - Update - battlers they are, cloggers they are too. The run shows no end, 12 points from somewhere, anywhere, nowehere! Relegated

Man City - Big signings and intermittent results. Stumble to safety well before the last game. Great goal difference. Safe - Update - safe but crap - Hughes to be sacked season end. Will finish bottom half.

West Ham - In real trouble off the pitch. Can they hold onto players AND keep them fit. Hull next up then 5 exceedingly tough fixtures. 29 points already plus 4 wins should see them safe. Safe - Update - Safe as houses!! Might not be worth much but still standing come June.

Sunderland - Poor goal difference and a batch of really tough games with just Stoke in the middle of them right up to the end of March. Can't see many points and they are going to have dig deep to avoid falling into the bottom 3 in the coming weeks borderline - Update - Safe - battling qualities keep them up easily as the others are much poorer

Spurs - Just 2 wins in 9, Carling and UEFA Cup fixtures piling up on a small depleted and uninterested squad. The next 9 fixtures are against 4 of the top 5 and 5 poor clubs. Those 5 fixtures as Arry said tonight will need Tottenham at their best or they are going down - Could be relegated Update - Safe - scrap 13 points to stay up though a collapse in confidence could take it to the wire

Newcastle - Ditto Spuds. Poor Goal Difference. Lack heart and battle. Off filed problems. Fans dragging them down. Big clubs and relegation clubs coming up for them over the next 10 games. No signings. Poor management. Could easily be relegated Update - next 4 fixtures looking bleak. Game against Hull crucial. Could go down to the wire as they have no heart or spirit or talent.

Middlesbrough - 10 without a win losing to all their rivals. Easy fixture list with only Chelsea and Liverpool out of the top 7 before the end of April. Make or break. Could easily go down. Update. Victory over Liverpool, steady management, easy fixture list. Avoid the drop by a couple of points.

Stoke - 1 win in 11 - 8 without a win. Terrible goal difference. Just played all the top teams though. Virtually all the next 10 fixtures are against relegation rivals. lack of firepower. Give away to many goals. 50% of goals scored from Rory Delap. Probably go down Update - battling like mad. The noise at the Brittania might save them. Last day drama.

Bolton - sucked back in to it on 23 points (2 above safety) and a poor goal difference. I win 8 but of those 8, 5 were against the top 5 clubs. The fixture list easys up for them and they are into a run of consecutive relegation battles. Tough battling squad. Safe - Update - safe - run of easy fixtures, will pick up enough points to finish mid table/top half.

Rovers - 5 without defeat, just 2 goals conceded against Man City sloppily. New faces and injuries clearing up under reinvigorated management. Top 7 team last year returning to form. Next 11 fixtures, 6 are against the top teams right at the top and 5 against weaker opposition. Not enough points on the board to carry a bad run. Should pull clear Update - no crises of confidence though key injuries are hurting - closed the gap and should pull clear with a game or so left.

Bolton and Sunderland aren't worrying, they're well clear of the scrap now and in half decent form.

Actually, both will probably be looking up rather than down at this stage of the season, Sunderland especially have a decent chance of a top 8 finish given their recent form.

I'd put Middlesbrough in 'real trouble' as well, they're still powderpuff upfront and not great at the back.

I have said that in the above post. Clearly they are all well short of 40 points so anything can happen. It is likely Bolton and Sunderland will stay up. Boro's fixtures are easier and they have tightened up at the back.

Its quite possible that Newcastle are facing a run of 6 winless games out of the next 6 games, now that would set the Barcodes hearts fluttering.

Add in potential losses at Liverpool and Villa and the cast iron draw in a Tyne/Tees derby and they are looking at 5 points from that little lot.

The plot thickens and the prediction of a massive club facing the drop is leading the doom merchants to St James Park

A lot of Newcastle supporters believe they are on the way down. Most of them are gutted we got Allardyce and as a result are now pulling clear, and looking at their fixtures, you can see why they're panicking.
