Mr. E Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Captain doesn't neceserilly mean best player. Benni is a better player than The Axe and he isn't captain. Yeah but you can't expect everyone to be much better than captain. We'll see.

T4E Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 El-rio Van Heer-den is my guess. El-Rio ooooh El-Rio ooooh He wears the blue n white He makes Bentley look sh!te. His name's El-Rio and he is an African, He might be rubbish cos we bought him from Belgium. And when he tries he really shows you all he can, El Rio Rio is a black South African.
yankrover Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 As long as his wages aren't big (and there's almost no way they are) there's really no way this signing can hurt. Nice job by Sam.
Iceman Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Elrio will probably be on 15k a week or so, if not less. Like i said, more of a squad player who will come off the bench as an impact player.
John Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Never heard of him, but it appears he has decent ability which we can develop. Nice to wake up this morning at 7am to the breaking news text, with the sun shining!!
tony gale's mic Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 On another forum I post on, in the transfer thread a Brugge fan said: My teams best player going to Blackburn Rovers ... Elrio Van Heerden, remember that name ... To which an FC Copenhagen fan replied: He played for FC Copenhagen, good little player, but will NOT set the PL on fire. Both are fine by me, even if we've just signed a "good little player" on a free, thats decent business.
benhben Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 nice to hear he has abit of pace. Thats probably the main thing we miss in our team at the moment.
The Harwood Yankee Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Call me naive but I'm always excited when I hear we've signed someone I've never heard of! Maybe its the pleasant surprise we got after signing unknowns like Samba and Nelsen. I hadnt even heard of Santa Cruz until we were linked with him. Obviously it's better to sign someone you already know is good but I'm resigned to the fact that Rovers will have to keep 'pulling rabbits out of hats', as Hughes used to say. It was depressing as hell last Christmas when we didnt bring anyone good in as we all knew we desperately needed to strengthen the squad. I'm with those on here who are looking forward to seeing what Van Heerden is all about. Let's hope he brings out the best in Benni as well as doing well himself.
roversmad95 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 They can sign a pre-contract agreement, but can't play or be officially recognised as a 'whatever' club player until the day the transfer window opens... thx
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Jesus Christ almighty, he's a smooth-talker isn't he: http://www.thisislancashire.co.uk/sport/4417344./
Commondore Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Does anyone (Iceman?) know if Elrio will be playing for South Africa in their friendly with Poland this weekend?
Hughesy Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Not sure but he made the cut earlier today for their 23 man squad for the confed cup.
Guest Wen Y Hu Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 As someone said earlier. He was c**p at FCK. He couldnt handle the physical side of the Danish Superleague, so I guess he will have a hard time in the PL. Hope I am wrong and that the belgian league has improved him a lot..... Oooerr. Would that make him FCKin c**p? Sorry, everyone. A Danish joke.
Iceman Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Does anyone (Iceman?) know if Elrio will be playing for South Africa in their friendly with Poland this weekend? He is part of the 23 man squad selected for the confed cup. Those 23 players will be at the Poland game, and im sure Elrio will play some sort of part yes. If you manage to watch the game, keep an out for Teko Modise who wears number 10. He will deffinately play alongside Steven Pienaar. Another player to look out for is Simphiwe Tshabalala who is an all action left winger.
The Rover of Finland Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Just took first Youtube view of Elrio and must say he really is fast. Let´s hope he becomes our Aaron Lennon with better scoring abilities.
imy9 Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 cheers mate, looks like it is on the BBC! http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressrele...derations.shtml
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Elrio played all of 2 mins for South Africa vs Poland today as a substitute.
patrickvalery Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Elrio played all of 2 mins for South Africa vs Poland today as a substitute. Well thats time enough for atleast a goal and an assist. I for one will be disappointed at anything less!
Iceman Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Im glad Elrio had some game time, against Leeds. Seems he did well, and im sure he will be involved alot more.
JWUpper Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Was at the City game on Saturday (in the Jack Walker upper, near the 'posh' seats) and decided to stay up at half time. To my surprise I looked over and spotted Elrio sat by himself...then he got mobbed by a few fans, but as he was going to sit back down I noticed him limping a bit. Then when he did sit down he put his feet up on the railing bits they have in front of the seats in the directors box, and he had a cast (one of the material ones...like cisse had on his leg) over his foot (can't remember which one!). Just wondered if anyone knew he was injured?...or maybe if it happened while on international duty?
S15 Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Nah probably just embarrassed he didn't make an 18 man squad which had Keith Andrews in the starting 11.
Balwer Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Nah probably just embarrassed he didn't make an 18 man squad which had Keith Andrews in the starting 11. Like the rest of the squad was all of last year you mean?
S15 Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Yeah, hence you haven't seen Dunn, Reid or Grella since he signed.
