RevidgeBlue Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 American is obviously in one of his silly moods tonight. Bentley sale to Spurs Of course Rovers would be naive and not place a clause which stopped Spurs from flogging off Bentley without coughing up the £2m if it had not already been paid... What, you mean almost as naive as seemingly allowing a 50% sell on clause to Arsenal? I don't think it is possible to be confident that Rovers would benefit from any Bentley sale It's by no means inconceivable that Rovers would only get their extra 2m if Spurs sold Bentley at a profit or for the same amount. Hypothetically if DB suffered a serious injury and Spurs had to offload him for a relatively nominal fee, you couldn't expect Spurs to pay Rovers 2m top up. If he's so crap he doesn't trigger his appearance clause and they can only sell him at a loss I don't see that being much different either.

philipl Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Either that or Spurs would be smart enough to say that if he was so bad we'd rather sell him than have him hit the targets after spending that much to begin with, you don't deserve any more money. You don't know either way. Caveat emptor- they can say whatever you want to dream up but the contracts were signed. Circumstantial evidence I know but notice that Bentley was never linked to any potential sale for less than £12m whereas there was talk of Jenas going for £7m?
JAL Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Nicky Butt nowhere to be seen tonight. Sam was a fan of his at Newcastle apparently. If Sam goes for Butt we'll be looking for a new manager come christmas and laughing at him for thinking he was an expert so poor is Butt. Grella does what Butt does so I dont see why we'd want another type of player like that.
RevidgeBlue Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Gudjonnsen (spelling) Sam has worked with him before and can play more than one position!!!!!!!! That certainly wouldn't split opinion as Kamy suggested.

Because we like to collect inept injury prone midfielders how hard would it be to find a player that can hold and pass a ball? My guess no-one to go no-one to come, or 2 to go and no-one come, this window has been bargain basement scraping, i dont expect it to change.

doctorryan Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 If the French press are to be believed, it's down to Rangers and us for Rothen. Schalke have dropped out of the running.
Hi Mack Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 All the arrows are pointing at Joey Barton. Personally i'd be happy, He is a quality footballer its just his life of it that is under question. Its blatantly obvious we are missing a midfied spark, hope this gets rectified tomorrow. I see Eidur Gudjonson has gone to Monaco.
beerwins Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 We just live in hope of pulling something out of the bag. To be honest we have had all window to fix our problem area which has been midfield and not a sniff , do i think its going to be fixed in 1 day? not a chance, sam doesnt seem to want any creativity there, unlike his time at bolton who had the very talented jay jay. Now so many people will say well sam hasnt the money or we have too many midfielders already but in truth 2 went tugay (not replaced) and mokoena (not hard to replace) and nzonzi seems a good coup but where is the other that gave us a different angle? When we go a goal down under sam we dont seem to have a way back and thats because we cant change the gameplan, we have route one players who are hardworking and sam hopes we can snatch one back through a set piece, as before we would bring on tugay to put a foot on the ball and look to spread the play around. Why we signed salgado i cannot understand, jacobson is doing fine and chimbonda is a good signing that should have been made earlier. We have 3 good rightbacks and that doesnt include emerton but our midfield still looks workmanlike not creative, 1 day to change that , no chance.
rover6 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Excuse my confusion, but why is everyone still guessing when Skysports are reporting that we are talking to Zenden? Are we after two midfielders at this late stage?
1864roverite Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Someone at SKY has got us mixed up with Bolton. Cannot see Zenden bringing anything to Rovers. WE NEED A CENTRAL MIDFIELDER and if the club cant get their heads around it here it is again WE NEED A CENTRAL MIDFIELDER
Fylde Coast Fan Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Excuse my confusion, but why is everyone still guessing when Skysports are reporting that we are talking to Zenden? Are we after two midfielders at this late stage? Because Sky could be wrong? And it's been hours since Sky claimed Zenden was talking to both us and Portsmouth and no other reputable source has picked the story up? I hope they are wrong and nicko doesn't come on and confirm it, but for now it seems like an ambitious agent trying to spark something.
roversinmyblood Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 why are you all getting exited? So far we have only got rid of good players and replaced them with cheaper/free alternatives, the exception being Mokeona obviously!
beerwins Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Excuse my confusion, but why is everyone still guessing when Skysports are reporting that we are talking to Zenden? Are we after two midfielders at this late stage? I truly believe he could be 1 man in, isnt he a left winger ? would that push mgp out? not the last minute signing i was hoping for. A 33 year old attacking midfielder no thanks, he is also linked to pompey who seem willing to let Niko Kranjčar go for around the 2 mill mark. God only knows the dealings that pompey and spuds get up too!! i would love to see their books and submit them to the F.A. Niko Kranjčar will obviously be seen as a replacement for modric who is injured , annoys the hell outa me to see him go there to be a replacement.
RIML Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 why are you all getting exited? So far we have only got rid of good players and replaced them with cheaper/free alternatives, the exception being Mokeona obviously! We could be saving the best til last.
mellison24 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 We could be saving the best til last. I'm expecting nothing. But IF it was Krancjar (or even Zenden tbh) I'd be a happy rover!
Iceman Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 As far as im concerned, its 11'o clock here. Nicko do your thing
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Im happy with Sam's dealings so far. Id say we have a stronger squad now then we did 6/12 months ago. As long as we dont sell McCarthy tomorrow I dont really mind what happens. Zurab departing would help but Im content with the squad as it is. Ideally a creative spark in midfield but I cant see there being one available on the cheap on deadline day.
Amo Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Yeah, I'm expecting nothing. I remember the same anticipation back in January when everyone was baying for an attacking midfielder and the club never delivered. I foresee the same scenario.
Iceman Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I'm expecting nothing. But IF it was Krancjar (or even Zenden tbh) I'd be a happy rover! Michael, its a double signing, Riquelme and Luca Toni for Andrews and Benni is my guess
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Im happy with Sam's dealings so far. Id say we have a stronger squad now then we did 6/12 months ago. I have got to agree - everybody keeps going on how we haven't replaced Santa with the same class of player - but he hardly played last year - so we have to be better off.
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I'm expecting nothing. But IF it was Krancjar (or even Zenden tbh) I'd be a happy rover! Its not Kranjcar. I would seriously kiss Sam if he brought him in. But its not happening. I thought Zenden had retired. Dont quite see what he'd add. Rothen would probably offer far more.
PAFELL Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 That certainly wouldn't split opinion as Kamy suggested. Everything splits opinions on here. Was inpressed with the young player called ranger tonight for newcastle. One to 'watch' for the future. 165 users on this transfer topic now - bet half of them go back to school tomorow - Nicko your audience awaits with baited breath.
Iceman Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Its not Kranjcar. I would seriously kiss Sam if he brought him in. But its not happening. I thought Zenden had retired. Dont quite see what he'd add. Rothen would probably offer far more. Rothen is 31, Zenden 33. You would perhaps take Rothen as he is younger. However, Zenden has premiership experience. Neither one excites me though. No chance of Emana, we skint.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 In regards to Rothen do we really need another left winger surely an AMC is more important? I'm not Pedersen's biggest fan but i would take him over Rothen.
