Sparky Marky Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 I'd certainly have Bunn over Schmeichel, and I've never even seen Bunn play.

Amo Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Signing Schmeichel Jnr makes no sense. He doesn't look like any improvement on our two young goalkeepers, and he's playing two leagues below one of them. Ay, ay, ay, no es bueno!
Sparky Marky Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Has Fielding actually left rovers or is he on loan at rochdale..? If he's still ours, maybe nows the time to bring him to the bench as robbo's deputy...Brown's just a SUPER Sam Allardyce and isn't a premier league goalie.
joey_big_nose Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 who the fudge said nelsen's future is in doubt? one relatively small injury, no noticeable loss of form, one great performance from a youngster and the club captain might be shown the door? get real. I would defianately say it is. He has had a few decent games this season, but clearly he is in decline. A lot of injuries, a few poor performances, these things are stacking up. In central defence Samaba is first choice, Givet is excellent and Jones is coming through. He might not be getting sold but he is going to lose the captaincy for certain and be a bench player. Brilliant servant for Rovers but all things come to an end.
RoyRover Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Outs for me this summer would be: Brown Zurab Emerton Reid Roberts Di Santo One of Grella or Andrews Take Emerton out of that list and add in Diouf and Pedersen and that's who I would like to see moved on in the summer. People may think that letting Pedersen go would be a mistake, but the guy has done damn all for the past couple of seasons and it has only been in the past few weeks, that he has looked better, but that's only in comparison to to how utterly useless he was for so long. I doubt these players would demand much of a transfer fee, maybe three or four million all in, but this squad has so much dead wood in it, that Sam needs to have a major clean out in the summer and start putting the money these guys earn to better use.
T4E Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Agreed Joey. Hopefully Sam wont allow the team captaincy to cloud his judgement - Nelsen is already our 3rd best centre back. Club captain, sure, but the team captaincy needs to be looked at. I'd give it to Robbo, barring a Summer signing worthy of it.

I think if we do change the captain it’s going to go to Samba, he has gone back to his best since he has been given it and i don't think it will go unnoticed by Sam. Unless we end up selling him of course...

Olssen thinks we will have largely the same group of players next season, so I don't see wholesale changes. Could Pedersen's change of form and performances also have something to do with the fact that he's playing in a different position? That the manager is getting more out of him? That he feels much more settled in the team?
Pedderz0912 Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 I think we will sell Bunn (Sheff UTD), Zurab (Reading), Reid (WBA - Released)and chimbonda if we get any decent offers - what has happened to him BTW - Also FDS will return to chelsea. I honestly wouldn't mind if Brown, Andrews, Vince or Roberts went either but think we will keep these and its a must we also hang on to MGP - always fit, noone else there better for same sort of price look at hull wanting 7m for hunt... I would love us to sign Matthews (Cardiff), One of Ledley/noble/reo coker and a must to do our upmost to sign Jamie O Hara - May take anything upto 4-5 million but I'm sure he would only increase that value and in the next couple of years has the potential to be in england squad. Boyd on a free would also go down well I feel... Squad: GK:Robbo, Brown & Fielding Def: Salgado, Lars, Givet, Olsson, Samba, Nelson & Jones - matthews would fit in here nicely Mid: Dunn, Peddez, Diouf, Emerton, Vince, Andrews, (Olsson again maybe here), junior, Nzonzi & 1 of the above. St: Niko, Roberts, (hoilett again), Boyd - wow we are short up front but you don't realise cus we play 1 up top... Starting 11: Robbo Salgado/matthews Samba Nelson Givet Grella Nzonzi (Ledley/Reo/noble or O'hara) Diouf Dunn Pedderz/Olsson Niko Bench: Brown, Chimbonda, Olsson, Jones, Junior, Emerton and Roberts/Boyd or maybe Linginzi see how he does... Not bad squad that certainly be able to finish in top 11-12... Also maybe at home play olson instead of Nelson and Givet in centre bit tricky this 1 actually - good competition for places

Nelsen has been a rock at the back this season. I agree; Givet is decent but I'd put him behind Samba and Nelsen in regards to overall ability. Does anyone have any stats on Nelsen's headers won/lost %? My guess is that it's quite high. And to say he's one of the smallest centre backs in the league; it's quite impressive.
Hughesy Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Does anyone have any stats on how many times players have got past Nelsen, whether it be by a mistake or by pace, and it has then had to be mopped up by another player? or how many times he has left his man unmarked to allow them to score a goal?! SAMBA - is by far our best defender - at 25 (26 in 4 days) we should build our team around him. Give him the captaincy, he has thrived on it, and has become a massive leader on the pitch. Nelsen - is on the decline, has lost a yard or two of pace and must now be close to being our 3rd best central defender, with Jones quickly trying to make a name for himself too!

den Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 He had a good spell at City, before he was dropped. He got dropped because he wasn't up up it. If he hadn't have been Peter Schmeichels son, he wouldn't have been noticed.
Hughesy Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Build our team around a defender?.......... Well not specifically around him in the way you talk - but we need a strong core to our side down the middle....we have Samba (so lets hang onto him), we have Kalinic - now we need either someone to take charge in the middle or sign someone and then decide on our keeper (who isnt the greatest in the league).
Bazrakats Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Portsmouth allowed to sell players outside of transfer window wonder if we will be in for anyone?
Hughesy Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Id like Belhadji but I think he will be either too expensive or off to a bigger club.
rovgers Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 I was just about to mention that, it would be a very tricky situation. If we bought somebody from Pompey they wouldn't be able to play for us this season and would we be paying for the player to play for Pompey? Also what wold happen if the player got injured whilst playing for them?
LeChuck Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 I know it's utterly pointless trying to work out what kind of team we'll be lining up after a transfer window, but it is fun doing it (especially since I sold football manager!). I'm hoping that, after the ins-and-outs, we'll have something like... ........................ Robbo Salgado .... Samba ... Givet ... Olsson .............. N'Zonzi ..... Ledley ... Diouf ............ Dunn ......... Ibricic ........................ Kalinic Subs: Bunn, Jacobsen, Nelsen, Emerton, Pedersen, Hoilett, Lewandowski Rest: Fielding, Jones, Andrews, Judge, Doran, Lingzani, Roberts Gone: Brown, Grella, Chimbonda, Basturk, Di Santo, Reid, Zurab, Rigters Might need a cheapo loan full back to boost numbers slightly, but apart from that I think we'd be well balanced there. Ibricic, or someone of that ilk (pacey goalscoring wide player) is the priority for me.

If we bought somebody from Pompey they wouldn't be able to play for us this season and would we be paying for the player to play for Pompey? Also what wold happen if the player got injured whilst playing for them? Would they not have to stop playing for Portsmouth unless you came to an agreement with them? Presumably the purchasing club hold the rights to that player if they pay a fee upfront. It would be just like buying them to play but they can't go on the pitch for you but why would they then be allowed to play for Portsmouth. Makes no sense to me.

Also what wold happen if the player got injured whilst playing for them? The player wouldn't be able to play for us, it would be a pre-contract agreement. However, we could sign the player and loan them back to Pompey for Pompey to pay their wages for the duration of the loan deal. If the player got injured for them whilst on loan it would be tough luck, that's the risk of any loan deal.
Sparky Marky Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 - now we need either someone to take charge in the middle or sign someone and then decide on our keeper (who isnt the greatest in the league). I think you're being a bit harsh on Robbo....Can't see us coming up with anyone better, so for us, he's the best we can hope for after Brad.

It's a total shambles, but legally the Premier League could not stop an administrator selling a player any time they wanted to...this is just a fudge. It could have worked five weeks ago when it was first suggested but now it is too late to make any difference. Who is buying a Pompey player just now in those circumstances? Nobody.
unluckymorton Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 I think you're being a bit harsh on Robbo....Can't see us coming up with anyone better, so for us, he's the best we can hope for after Brad. You're right. If the likes of Man Utd are struggling to find a replacement for Van Der Sar what hope would we have of unearthing a superstar keeper? Robbo is as good as we're going to get. We just need more organisation in the defence and our first choice defence having a run of games together rather than changing week in week out. This has been difficult this season with injuries, suspensions and strange decisions by the manager. I think we have decent cover in defence, we need a creative midfielder more than anything, hopefully Basturk could be the answer but there are not many games left for him to get into the side and for him to prove himself.
