Iceman Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 we have a better squad now, than the squad Brum had when they were relegated. We are going to get a crap striker, whether its Heskey, Benjani or Beattie. There is nothing we can do about it, its been coming for a while now. Its a sad state of affairs, but we only getting upset over ######. As a club, we just have to get on with it and hope this takeover goes through so that we can make a few January signings.

FourLaneBlue Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 But Heskey scored the same number of goals as Roberts last season, and we finished a very comfortable 10th. There's also potential for more goals from midfield with Heskey in the side. So could you say having Roberts guaranteed us to stay up last year? Whether we stay up or go down has more to do with any one single player, but, regardless, I really don't think Heskey is the man for us. I used to think he was a better player than most made out and especially when at Liverpool. He doesn't seem to be that player any more. Besides, 2 million and big wages on a 32-year old?
Roversboy1972 Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Nicko is there going to be a 11 oclock tonight and have you any news about transfers or the take over
broadsword Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I should've thought so. There's an 11 o'clock most, if not all, nights.
modes98 Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Can we just get that on autotext to save people typing it out everyday?
rover6 Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I break my vow of silence just to say that Owen Garvan of Ipswich Town is, according to Skysports, on the transfer market for relative peanuts. Roy Keane has stifled his career but the guy is a young central midfielder with excellent potential. A year or two back he was one of the best young players in the Champ. Anyone (it looks as if it might by Palace) who signs him may have a real gem. I would urge Rovers to sign him if they can - but, seeing as I can't urge directly, I urge here and hope that something might percolate to the men that matter. Less that £500k for a creative midfielder who's in his early 20s and has his experience at youth international and Champ level must be a bargain. Also, note, Roy Keane, I believe, sold Jordan Rhodes to Huddersfield.
John Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Heskey rumour has been denied by the LET, so why the intense debate?

I haven't heard of this player, but if he's a young, attacking midfielder with unearthed potential I doubt we'll be interested.
Majiball Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 There is this fallacy that we only ever play one striker. In virtually every game last season we had at least two strikers on the bench - and used them all during the 90 minutes. If two strikers were injured, as they are now, we would be left with just one striker, to play the full 90 minutes, for as long as the other two were injured or suspended. God help us if one of those strikers pick up a long term injury early on. It's suicidal to go into a Premier League season with only three senior strikers on the clubs books. All in my opinion of course. And a good opinion it is as well. One of them would not come. The other is now back in his club's first team and doing well. Care to name them??? Cleverley would be a better loan deal for us. Would offer us goals from midfield. Never been overly impressed with welbeck when I've seen him to be honest. I'd rather niko get more time on the pitch with a bigger target man. I wouldn't say no to seeing him here, had a very good season on loan last year. dj54nna Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Heskey rumour has been denied by the LET, so why the intense debate? Because since Peter White died, the Telegraph has not known its football journalism arse from its elbow. It ran a story the other day saying a striker signing was imminent, but failed to mention any names. I could've told you that, which proves they know just as little as we do right now.
nicko Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Nicko is there going to be a 11 oclock tonight and have you any news about transfers or the take over Nothing to report. Unfortunately. It would be no surprise if one of the manager's pas ran something about how bad things are in one of the papers. No clues about strikers who may be willing to come in the £2 million bracket. Long since stopped holding my breath on that one.
Darwen Rover Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I'd be stunned if we bought heskey.. On current form he's very similar to Roberts, if anything roberts had a better season last season... Sam had said on numerous occassions he's after goalscoring striker..I personally reckon he'll buy someone from a so called inferior league but with potential.. Because that's was our budget will stretch too..

Long since stopped holding my breath on that one. Still no movement after the big man delivered his verbal laxative to the board then. Shame really. Been away for a few days. After I seen there had been over 20 pages of posts in the last 2 days I thought something more concrete had happened. Obviously not. So big Emile still has the ability to create tremors with his mere presence, and I don't mean just when he walks

R6 welcome back.By the way it looks like you got your wish of seeing youth promoted through the ranks what with the new faces we have in and around the first team(although it would seem our circumstances certainly contributed to this).

So big Emile still has the ability to create tremors with his mere presence, and I don't mean just when he walks I too returned from a school trip to France and saw the number of pages on this and various other threads and thought"Oh, good, something must be at least stirring." But no. It's the same round and round debate with nothing actually happeneing and I'm off to france again tomorrow for 5 weeks and will probably come backj to find lots more pages and still nothing happening other than we'll have failed to score in our matches up to then and will have let Robin van Persie score at least one as he always does.
Brfcrule1 Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I came across some info earlier can't remember where but I think we failed with Wellbeck. We wanted him on loan but the player turned us down obviously thinks he is bigger than the club itself so no great loss there.
Fylde Coast Fan Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Have I got this right? - Nicko says all transfers are on hold until the takeover is sorted. - LET and JW say that's not the case. - Sam gets sick of waiting and threatens to quit unless he gets to sign someone before the season starts. - The £2.5m mentioned as our budget by the LET appears to be back on the table, but seems not to be enough to sign Heskey and pay his wages. How do we expect to get anyone good enough on that kind of money? A big wages freebie seems like the best option.
Amo Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I believe it's time the mods renamed this topic, under the Trade Descriptions Act.
