super_arran Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Lets see.... 16m for Jones, 10m? for Samba, 5-10m? for Hoilett.... Thats a total of 31-36 million! Jerome Anderson will be creaming himself over what he can do with that! Skimming from that pile will be like taking candy from a baby. err ..... imo Sounds like you're creaming yourself at the thought..
slough_rover Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 How do we know that he only agreed to sign a new contract if that clause was inserted? People are quick to slag off the owners and management etc but what if the club had no choice to put that in his new contract. People are so anti-venkys that they fail to look at both sides of the equation. Either we allow him to have a 16 million release clause or he leaves for free in a few years time...
neophox Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Rovers should sign: Scott Parker from West Ham Jermaine Jones from Schalke A profilic striker and keep all our players. Lineup: Robinson Salgado, Samba, Jones, Givet Formica, Jones, Parker, Olsson Hoilett, Rochina

He was already in a 5 year contract which was signed in Summer 2010, then we gave him another in February.
sparkspakespoke Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 So if a club offers £16m and we therefore accept, P J has no say in the matter? Can't he refuse their contract offer if he really is against leaving? (not saying he would but surely he has a say in the matter) Jones can decline the move, we just have to accept a 16 million offer and let him chose.
BuckyRover Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Before we start speculating. Ask yourself why a club would ever voluntarily insert a release clause. Makes no sense. You lose bargaining power
slough_rover Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 5 years. He was already in a 5 year contract which was signed in Summer 2010, then we gave him another in February. Do we know what his wages were in that previous contract? His performances certainly warranted an increase. There are too many other variables going on that no one on this board knows about. For all we know the player may have demanded an increase in wages with all those suitors around along with the release clause. Just look at Rooney to see what affect agents can have on their clients.
thenodrog Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Before we start speculating. Ask yourself why a club would ever voluntarily insert a release clause. Makes no sense. You lose bargaining power You're still so wet behind the ears Bucky! ... It's the bloody players agents who stick that in!
Amo Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 You're still wet behing the ears Bucky and it shows! ... It's the bloody players agents who stick that in! Isn't that what he was implying?
BuckyRover Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 You're still so wet behind the ears Bucky! ... It's the bloody players agents who stick that in! Exactly my point. Nothing to do with Venky's. PJ wants the big time. Don't blame him personally. You only get one chance.
neophox Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 16m ain't that bad..... We have to realise that we're not an top club and if top players like Phil Jones want's to go then why keep him. I don't think he's worth 16m neither is Jordan Henderson worth 18.5m, the market is crazy. You have to remember that Jones didn't look so steady in the end of season, he did some clumsy challenges etc....But I think he'll stay one more year.
Kelbo Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Exactly my point. Nothing to do with Venky's. PJ wants the big time. Don't blame him personally. You only get one chance. Well if he does, his stance is definately different to the one he held in January where I can tell you 100% he wanted to stay at Rovers as he felt a move to a top club would result in less game time, that is 100% correct, so something has happened to change his views if thats the case.
thenodrog Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Exactly my point. Nothing to do with Venky's. PJ wants the big time. Don't blame him personally. You only get one chance. Sorry I was being dozy.

They're not paying for the finished product, the prospect Phil Jones is worth £20m and upwards, we shouldn't be selling for anything less. I agree that prices are crazy but look at what Liverpool paid for the unfinished product in Carroll - and what can we expect in return when £10m is being bandied around for a JJ that soon hits 30? If the money is reinvested in young up and coming players from the continent then fair enough - we should be all over the U20 World Cup and sign two-three top prospects from there. That is if we haven't changed our transfer policy over night.
rebelmswar Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Nicko are you 100% about this clause being real or not? If so please don't publish it you never no they might not find out. One thing is for sure - Sky now knows.
den Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 You're still so wet behind the ears Bucky! ... It's the bloody players agents who stick that in! Not always Gord. The club have requested one in the past.
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Though personally I think Jones will be top drawer - £16m is a lot for potential. At the end of the day he probably has at least another two or more years development before he reaches his potential. In that time period anything could happen - including injuries robbing him of his pace. I can think of numerous players who never reached their potential - Paul Warhurst, Paul Lake, David Hirst, Alan Shearer (injuries robbed him of his burst of pace - but for this he would have been truly world class) etc etc. I sincerely hope he stays - and that this release clause is rubbish. Looking forward to the response from the club when this hits the media tomorrow - as it without doubt will. Will they try and cover their tracks - or will they come clean ?
rebelmswar Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I personally would use the "Why don't you bid 16 million and find out." approach.
Baz Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Theres no way anyone on here knows that any kind of release fee is in Jones' contract. Rovers wouldn't admit to there being a clause and secondly it wouldnt be in their interest to do so. And why would Jones or his agent be openly telling people the clause - it also serves them no purpose - if other clubs are interested then the agent would be (underhandly) quietly letting interested clubs know the figure. Any "bidding war" would only affect Rovers on the fee and Jones on the wages.
den Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I can think of numerous players who never reached their potential Alan Shearer (injuries robbed him of his burst of pace - but for this he would have been truly world class) etc etc. Eh? Shearer didn't reach his true potential? 30 league goals, three seasons running. Scoring in every home game until February? Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year. PFA Players' Player of the Year. For rovers, 171 appearances, 130 goals. He was, in my opinion, the best centre forward this country has produced as long as I've been watching football.

In a way he didn't reach his potential Den, all that talent and he won one medal, John O Shea has a bigger trophy cabinet- he could and should have had more.
Mattyblue Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 With us Shearer was the best striker in the world- he had it all. However, that knee injury he got in his second season at Newcastle meant he lost the raw speed, he was more of a conventional centre forward after that. But 1992-1997, wow.
den Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 In a way he didn't reach his potential Den, all that talent and he won one medal, John O Shea has a bigger trophy cabinet- he could and should have had more. DMTP was talking about potential as a player imy9. He couldn't have done any more, or reached bigger heights.
Backroom Tom Posted June 6, 2011 Backroom Posted June 6, 2011 Rovers should sign: Scott Parker from West Ham Jermaine Jones from Schalke A profilic striker and keep all our players. Lineup: Robinson Salgado, Samba, Jones, Givet Formica, Jones, Parker, Olsson Hoilett, Rochina Nah we should sign: Messi Lars Bohinen Gareth Bale Sorry but Parker wont leave London and would cost a fortune and a profilic striker wont come cheap unless we take a gamble.
