dubdubdub Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 So the one deal that Nicko said definitely wouldn't be happening has happened. looks like the LET were on the money with that one from the start, despite them getting slated on here by many for having a different (and correct) view than the national press. welcome back Benjani!! Bangin'

Let's see if this awful decision is confirmed by the official site first.
Guest TheArtistFormallyKnownAsJB Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 i dont trust much of what he writes. he is always vague when interviewed on talksport too. look at his transfer links and a lot have proved to be nonsense. Im afraid if you describe Cryer as Vague, how would you describe Alan Nixon? Cryer writes for a pretty awful paper, but it hasn't always been that way! I remember that they had stories regarding Roque and Bellamy weeks before they signed for us in the past. Obviously not all rumours can be true, but I certainly prefer Cryer's opinions because generally uses his opinion... rather than nicko's average "somethings going on, can't/won't tell you what it is but you better be worried/happy"

Benjani was offered £5,000-a-week by Rovers about a month ago. Benjani then tried to get £15,000-a-week out of a couple of clubs near to London. If you have signed Benjani on £5,000-a-week then you must be desperate...and so must the player. Obviously not all rumours can be true, but I certainly prefer Cryer's opinions because generally uses his opinion... rather than nicko's average "somethings going on, can't/won't tell you what it is but you better be worried/happy" I'm happy for you.

Not that it matters majorly, but I seem to recall Nicko getting the first scoop on Roque.

Mr "doom and gloom closet claret" If someone offered you a load of money for a story, would you try and sell it to the first bidder or offer it around? Benjani will be a solid squad player for next season, and for 250k a season, 2 goals in 38 substitute appearances would probably pay back his wage. It would take a massive bang on the head for me to start believing we were able to afford/attract the likes of Vucinic/Fabiano etc... all straight out of your mouth!
andyroversmad Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Portsmouth signed Defoe why would he not sign for Rovers ?

Guest TheArtistFormallyKnownAsJB Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Portsmouth signed Defoe why would he not sign for Rovers ? Don't forget Harry Redknapp... and the reported 75k a week. Do you think he would have signed for Portsmouth with Steve Cotterill as boss?
roverandout Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 i use red with cryer's write ups as chip paper.

Didn't Vucinic come out and say he does not want to sign for Rovers? Fabiano was also linked with us by Kamy, so there must have been legs in that. Also, Cryer stated over a month ago Benjani has signed, why had there been no Official Confirmation by Rovers.
joey_big_nose Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Portsmouth signed Defoe why would he not sign for Rovers ? Fairpoint - although Portsmouth are closer to London and were really going somewhere signing a lot of players. Plus defoe knew Harry very well from West Ham.

I've been reading his posts for many moons now, and he gets far more right than he does wrong, which isn't a bad record considering the amount of information he tries to pass on. Lets not forget he also persuaded coyle to leave burnley - THE MAN SHOULD BE KNIGHTED
chris Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Fairpoint - although Portsmouth are closer to London and were really going somewhere signing a lot of players. Plus defoe knew Harry very well from West Ham. exactl I'm telling you if Dalglish was Manager, if we had a top manager, thats a massive attraction. Kean is a bit like an ugly bloke in a night club, not really going to get the best girls unless he asks them all and one is drunk enough.
Miker Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 cryer writes what the venkys want to hear! nicko ignore the naysayers, most of us on here value your opinion and your inside info lol ridiculous post. How long have you been reading this forum? 6 months ago nicko was gushing about Venky's non-stop on here. Now suddenly he is full of integrity and refuses to toe the party line? Come on...
Guest TheArtistFormallyKnownAsJB Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Lets not forget he also persuaded coyle to leave burnley - THE MAN SHOULD BE KNIGHTED I cannot argue with that. My opinion has been changed by the last 2 or 3 weeks worth of gossip. I agree that you should simply not read posts if they aren't from posters you respect, or take posts with a pinch of salt. My only gripe is currently I am neck deep in salt
modes98 Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 It's common sense. Why would Jermaine leave London at this point in his career? Even if he did wish to leave Tottenham, he would be offered more cash at a whole hosts of clubs in the south of England or in cities. Also i'd expect him to stay at Spurs, being one of 'Arrys old boys. England opportunities can mean more to a player. If he stays at Spurs and has another bad season then he is unlikely to make it into the next tournament squad. If Kean can convince him that we are going to build an attack around him and give him 38 games a season then there is a strong possibility he would come. Although we would probably need to insert a release clause
nicko Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 How long have you been reading this forum? 6 months ago nicko was gushing about Venky's non-stop on here. Now suddenly he is full of integrity and refuses to toe the party line? Come on... I believed in giving the owners a chance. I respect people who put money into clubs. I also respect their right to make the big decisions at their club. However if you waste that chance when it comes to the crunch, then my opinion changes. Not a question of integrity. Just common sense and analysis.
roverandout Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 i have been on here for years. Yes i didnt agree with the kean/venky love in but im not talking about them, im talking about his knowledge on the transfer front. So why is that ridiculous? He has every right to share his opinion as much as anybody else and he is more clued up than alot on here. Nicko offers want noone else offers on here apart from kamy and bpf and thats information that we wouldnt get otherwise. You may not agree with anything he says but some of us find alot of the things he says is common sense. I wouldnt agree with everything he writes on here but thats par-for-the-course on a message board.
Ricky Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Benjani was offered £5,000-a-week by Rovers about a month ago. Benjani then tried to get £15,000-a-week out of a couple of clubs near to London. If you have signed Benjani on £5,000-a-week then you must be desperate...and so must the player. How come you didn't report that he'd been offered a deal a month ago then Nicko? You were pretty clear that there was no deal in place, that he wouldn't be offered a deal and that his future lay elsewhere. You then dismissed the LET's claims of a contract offer out of hand.

pick32 Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 If I've learnt anything from this window its not to take respected sources word as gospel, the club is in a total shambles they don't even no who there going to sign and its making it very hard to predict as Mr Nixon's hit ratio this window shows.
AJW Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Defoe would have been fantastic , however i think we would stand a better chance with Crouch

Unless you know something I don't with regards to him being first choice striker then I see no problem with it whatsoever. He can do a job as a substitute or third/fourth choice striker and would be better than a lot of other team's third/fourth choice strikers in my opinion. Nothing wrong with having a squad player, especially one on such low wages.
