Hughesy Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I don't get it I thought Nicko had been saying it was 2 not 1 and Cryer is wrong yet his article backs up Cryer. Wonder if it's been edited. He was saying 2 in....but was referring to 1 striker & 1 defender (Onouha). Vukcevic & G John are more or less complete according to Cryer

brian_gallagher85 Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 This is just getting idiotic now. How will a player who is supposedly out for another month going to prove his fitness? Why don't we just sign the one that is actually going to be able to play over the next 6 weeks...?

vintageadidas Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Remember Souness submitting a £500k bid for el hamdaoui when in charge of the rovers!
Torgeir Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I would agree with that and the lad from holland has a better goalscoring record too! In an inferior league. None of them are top shelf. Still wondering where our 'healthy' transfer budget went.

Eddie Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 This is just getting idiotic now. How will a player who is supposedly out for another month going to prove his fitness? Why don't we just sign the one that is actually going to be able to play over the next 6 weeks...? Simple. They bring him in, the medical team assesses his general fitness and the status of his injury and they decide from there how long it will take him to be fully fit and if there are any long-term implications from the injury. It's not as if the only part of a medical is asking the player to run for 90 minutes and seeing if he is up to it.
owenrilla Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I would agree with that and the lad from holland has a better goalscoring record too! For what its worth, leaving aside the injury for the moment, I feel Ibisevic is closer to what we need than El Hamdaoui. For me El Hamdaoui is more the kind of player to either play off someone else or wide than as an out and out centre forward. He isn't all that quick and not great in the air but is capable of taking people on and decent link-up. Ibisevic on the other hand has a bit more pace, is bigger and stronger and more capable of replacing Roberts if we play with one striker with others off him. I don't think El Hamdaoui, as technically proficient as he is, is suited to that role. Having said all that I wouldn't complain about getting either.
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 So we're possibly going to end up with... Petrovic John Vukcuvic Goodwillie ribeiro Ibisevic/Hamdaoui + a couple of loans Outlay of £13-14 mil Would have liked to have seen Onuhua and Lansbury signed permanently (especially now Emerton gone) Also think we're a decent striker short. Good enough to keep us up? probably. Top 10 - nope.
RoyRover Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 If we get a striker, two defenders and possibly a midfielder in before the window closes then I will be happy enough with what we've done. I do think that two of those players need to have Premiership experience though.

Good enough to keep us up? probably. Top 10 - nope. Would say that its more like probably end up with those players, our best budget in years ends up with with us still being 11m in profit and one of the smallest squads in the league. Really wish we could get hold of Onuhua and JJ.. would be ideal and see us stay up without a doubt.. as it stands I believe this current squad is relegation material, even if we get Samba playing we will still lack experience in the center of the park and it is pretty obvious that Kean is not looking to sign anyone with that leadership quality that's needed Boy I wish Kean would shut up though... talking of getting the players in by the weekend and it looks like he has failed on all bar Vuki who was already here, saying how we are seeing a glimpse of the future playing a very weak Shef Wed (2 leagues lower and 8 changes from their last match), how we played well against Villa, our best budget in years (before jones sold), Champions League football, how we have the new Batistuta/Irwin/Rooney, talking of lack of experience and signing inexperienced players, how its only now urgent we get the players in when we have had all summer and the season has already started, how all our new players will settle in quick when no other team has managed it, how we would have 3 players in within 2 weeks 7 weeks ago.. he truly is his own worst enemy no wonder Salgado came out and said the players would love to know who is being sold/signed..
Guest TheArtistFormallyKnownAsJB Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Cue the negatives... But I don't think the premier league experience thing can be avoided. I also don't think it's as cut and dry as the press think it is. We mention losing players like Emo, who has Premier league experience, yet we bought him straight of the Eredivisie if I am correct. Pedersen came from a Norwegian League, Nelsen - DC united, Samba - HSV... What about Benni Mc and Roque in their first seasons respectively? neither of those had the experience of playing in the English top flight. Berg, Henchoz, Tugay, etc etc etc... the list goes on. We aren't in a position to pay 10m + 3m a season for Kenywne Jones - just because he has goals in this league. In order to survive our club will carry on in the way it has done for the last 10 years, blooding untested players/managers and selling them on at a profit. We've been lucky in the past, we can be lucky again. I'd rather us do it this way, than lumber ourselves with an over priced "Just because they are British" team, or a top 4 ckub wannabe's with a squad costing us 1.5m a week on monster wages. For the 1,323,545th time I will use Portsmouth as an example.

SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 None of them are top shelf. Still wondering where our 'healthy' transfer budget went. Yes,we may be buying but are they the quality players we need?...time will soon tell!
Reedy You're A Star Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Don't know a great deal about the 2 strikers, but they've got to better than Roberts, so either one is at least a slight improvement. If we can get one or both of them in, then a defender (Onuoha?) in on loan, or preferably permanent if we can afford it, we should be ok. If we can somehow talk Shalke into letting us have Jones back even on loan for another season then we should have enough to at least stay up this season. The main thing now, this late in the window, though is we keep our better players (Samba, Hoillet and Olssen), or we really are royally screwed.

I wonder if we have looked at him, since we just got his teammate? I hope so. Kid is very talented.

stu07 Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Seen today that Bellamy going to Liverpool for free. Thats a hell of a signing for nothing, just a shame he couldn't be talked into coming back to us. The issue he has is he does tend to get alot of injuries, but he was different class for us. I would take Bentley back as well, Harry made it clear last night he wants some of the high earners who aren't playing off the wage bill - needs to take a pay cut though if he wants to play. The onouha deal I hope is true, but lets be aware that Kean said the other day City want to bring another defender in before they will let that happen. I think it would benefit England if he came here, he can play right back and nobody has nailed that position down. Hopefully John and Ibisevic will get done this weekend and it will leave us with 3 days to get in 1 or 2 more. We badly need 1 striker - i'd say we need 2 but the chances of that are slim. I've given up on Cisse now, there's no rumours that we are in for him and the fee would seem to be the stumbling block in that deal, probably see him playing for Sunderland. Have to admit, we were all here last week and the rumours said we are getting 5 in - one week later 1 has signed. Feel deflated now
gazsimm Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 onouha and Bentley on loan would be a step forward to improving the team.
OJRovers Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Anyone think Wayne Bridge on loan might be alright? I don't think he's too close to Citys team plus it would give cover on that side and allow Olsson to play LM.
Kamy100 Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 By the end of the window we will have signed five players (Petrovic, Goodwillie, Vukcevic, George John and either Ibisevic or Mr X). Once the John and striker deals are complete, I can't see us signing any more permanent players (with the exception of Lansbury if we can get a deal done), after that I think we will turn our attention to the loan market and look to bring in 2 players, most likely one will be a defender and the other will be a midfielder. The only way I can see the above changing is IF Samba is sold (which doesn't look likely at the moment), then we would need to go out and sign a replacement centre back.
