Andy Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 I was having a look through some of Boywer's signings last night and although I'm overlooking some dodgy ones, the below are actually really impressive bits of business: Spurr - free transfer, decent enough LB at this level and young enough to have resale value. Kilgallon - preferable to Dann for me. Evans - few hundred grand, good young player, big resale value. Cairney - as above. Marshall - approx £1m but young, promising and again, resale value. Conway - few hundred grand, excellent start and offers us another dimension going forward. Gestede - another for a few hundred grand, good start and scores goals. Another with resale value. I know it's balanced out a bit by your Marrows, but the above players should make the spine of a good, young Championship team next season and all signed for less than what Jermaine Jones on loan for 6 months would have cost us. Compared to all managers since Hughes, have we seen such value for the outlay?

47er Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Given all those it's remarkable that he thought Keane and Eastwood would get us through till Robbo was fit and that we were down to one centre-back at one point not long ago. Bowyer is an enigma. Perhaps he should be chief scout?
Guest Norbert Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Most managers have good and bad signings, and the occasional turd. For every 2 or three Ferdinand, Vidic or Ruud Van Niistelrooy Ferguson signed a Bebe Anderson or Forlan. It's all about the good/bad player ratio.
Amo Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 The majority of Bowyer's signings (discounting loan arrivals) have been astutely made: Conway, Gestede, Marshall, Cairney, Spurr, Kilgallon, Taylor. He definitely has an eye for a player and has managed to assemble a spine of a team on a budget. The only real duds have been Eastwood, Marrow, Songo'o and Judge, none of whom broke the bank. I've disregarded DJ Campbell as he wasn't technically a Bowyer signing, right?

When called upon last season and for a lot of this season Jake Kean hadn't put a foot a wrong and then all his mistakes came at once, some on here already had him pencilled in as Robbos replacement, myself included.
Backroom Tom Posted April 17, 2014 Backroom Posted April 17, 2014 He's made mistakes namely not replacing Dann quick enough but he's certainly in credit as far as good decisions to bad decisions! The signings have been relatively low risk and a good handful have paid off brilliantly
roversfan99 Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 There is not a chance that Kilgallon is better than Dann. Dann was our best defender and is excelling now in the Premier League. Our defence has looked really shaky with both Kilgallon and Hanley lacking consistency and leadership.
JAL Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Andy you and Chaddy must be comedians if you think Bowyer brought these players in.
chaddyrovers Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 so go on then Jal who did bring in these players??? IMO, Bowyer has full control over the playing staff at the club and nobody tell him who to sell or buy.
thenodrog Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 There is not a chance that Dann is better than Kilgallon. Still conducting a love fest over Scott Dann I see. btw..... You need to write that again. Sounds like you are stating that Kilgallon is the better of the two.

Who's paying you ?
chaddyrovers Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 go on then Jal who is in charge of transfers then?(you didn't answer that question before) Kamy, Cryer and Nixon all say Bowyer is in full control of the playing staff of the club. Kamy has said before on the BRFCS Podcasts.
yoda Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Leave Chaddy in this thread and decamp to the Rao thread, much more fun
AJW Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 of all the Bowyer signings Bryan Dabo sticks out like a sore thumb as much as i want to believe Bowyers in full control that 1 signing makes me doubt it , but then are we just being naive to think that every manager at every club is in full control?
Backroom Tom Posted April 17, 2014 Backroom Posted April 17, 2014 Yep Dabo has the stench of agents all over it I very much doubt we have scouts that picked him up
Ricky Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I still wouldn't say that Judge was a bad signing. He just wasn't really given a chance and has excelled whilst out on loan. I think we may see a profit on him if we sell him. Brentford would be keen to sign him when they secure their promotion surely.
thenodrog Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Personally I think Judge should be in the squad. Pity he is so small but he has a good attitude. Souness would have described him as 'spikey' like David Thompson.

T.J.Newton Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I like Judge, I just cant see where hed fit into our system(too slow to play out wide, not strong enough to hold his own in the centre) if we are mostly going to play 442 with 2 out and out centre forwards most of the time, His best position seems to be playing in a free role behind the forward, he'd still be great to have on the bench(far better than Taylor, Varney, et..) but I think that's the issue, he just wants consistent 1st team football by the looks of it even if it means playing at a lower club(which again shows what a great attitude he has)
Neal Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Judge should be in the squad at least, god knows why he brought him in, played him, brought Dabo in, then loaned him out... Awful decision,
T.J.Newton Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 we could do with finding a right sided Spur type for next season(solid, reliable natural right back).
Ricky Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Or just play Lowe there as it seems to be his better position. Can't see that one happening though. If Bowyer is going to play Lowe in CM then I agree we need a good solid RB.

Awful decision, Agree he would be a good squad man but he desperately wanted to be playing week in week out so they let him go. Daft bringing him back in the first place but if he's going to sulk on the bench he's better off playing somewhere and them paying him. At least they might pay a fee for him and he's off our payroll in summer.
