Just as an aside all these pages of debate and I don't think anybody has mentioned Blackburn's candidates nor no mention of Jack Straw riding away into a sunset to pursue any number of lucrative deals based on nothing more than his influential contact list compiled during his political career and totally at odds with the socialist principles which saw him head up the NUS before entering politics and the Blackburn seat.

I am old enough to remember him taking over from Castle and old enough to remember Blackburn as it was and unfortunately for such a high profile personal career in politics I can see very few positives around the place but I do see lots of negatives. Pretty sure a marginal situation would have seen Jack concentrate more on his constituency than his career at Westminster. Same goes for Castle.

Just as an example I don't know what the mad councillors will dream up to commemorate Jack's time here (a few litter bins around the Ranges with his face on would be my choice but Blackburns Orbital Route renamed Barbara Castle Way when 'Baroness Castle' @#/? off .. sorry left office to retire to her Buckinghamshire mansion and enjoy the fruits of her political career still on the state nipple / european gravy train was started in the 60's and is still not completed 50 years later!!!

Thought you were a Conservative Gordon. If you had a list of contacts like Straw has would you not make money out of them? I would!

Miliband would be able to see it from No 10 - which is the most important as a daily reminder of him to stick to his pledges. Where else would you expect it to be - in a public place where it could be defaced ?

Laughable, set in stone ha ha,

He says he wants to be the 1st to under promise and over deliver, that sounds like no confidence in his program to me.

The human race has not evolved by taking the safe, lets do the minimum route,

can't believe some people might actually fall for it.

No pain no gain

I see Russell Brand is now supporting Labour, with his 9 million followers on Twitter I think it was a good move by Miliband to engage with him.

Also it's being reported that a lib den peer has tweeted a conversation where Cameron has conceeded the election privately already.

Looks like the Tories are beaten, fingers crossed.

Brand is like marmite, some like him some hate him.

Besides he looks like a real hypocrite. He's been telling his young followers that they shouldn't vote and now he has changed his mind well after the voter registration deadline.

Why do we never see our political leaders talking to a crowd of mixed voters?

Why are they always preaching to the converted time and time again?

It's easy travelling round the country on a state of the art bus talking to people who are already on your side! Not bad work if you can get it!

It's politics, but not as we know it....

It's actually pathetic the more I think about it, just adds more fuel to the theory they're all career politicians in this for the money.

So why travel around the country?

You must recall politicians trying to drum up support begore elections by speaking in marginal towns and cities around the country to anyone that would listen? Soap Box?

Not sure what your point is unless you think the audiences were skewed

anyone who is voting Labour cos Brand has endorsed them is clearly clueless against Politics

I think Tories will get the biggest majority of any party but will not get enough to get overall majority. expect Tories/UKIP coalition after the Election

My point is why do Miliband, Cameron and Clegg not speak to normal voters in towns and cities up and down the country?

Why don't they roll up outside Bburn town hall and tell local people what they have to offer?

That will require UKIP winning some seats.

Just like anyone voting Tory because an Australian media mogul tells them too?

Security would probably be the main reason.

A few days ago I saw footage of John Major in Chester during his time as prime minister. Rolled up, got hit with an egg, but said his piece in a marginal seat, you'd not see Cameron doing that.

They're just playing at politics these days.

When Jack Straw was foreign sec he still did his surgeries once a fortnight, arrived with security (armed plain and uniformed officers) but still did them regularly. It can be done

A Conservative / UKIP coalition would be the dream ticket.

Unfortunately we could end up with Gumby and his breezeblock sharing office with Jimmy Krankie.

Jesus, that's the worst scenario possible.

They might as well shut the North for 5yrs if that happens.

If the transformation that is currently going on in Manchester permeates to the rest of the north west the Tories might even get a seat in the area sometime in the future

The idea of a Tory/UKIP coalition makes me want to vomit.

Who's doing that then??

By nature perhaps but not necessarily a voter. Also like Jack Straw I don't have many socialist principles.
