Backroom DE. Posted December 21 Backroom Posted December 21 Hearts apparently the first team to win four consecutive games against the Old Firm since the mid-80s. Fair play. One of the biggest obstacles for any underdog team to overcome is dealing with the pressure of facing a team with a big reputation. It's a psychological barrier rather than strictly talent or even form related. Definitely suggests they're the real deal this season. 2 Quote

Granted this season really does seem like the best chance to break the Old Firm monopoly, with both teams struggling far more than you'd expect. Quote

Rohl has steadied the ship thats for sure, they've been ok in the league since he arrived, but they are lacking in real quality across the squad, its going to take a big rebuild to bring them back to title contenders. 2 Quote
Gav Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I’ve just watched one of the games of the season, the Edinburgh derby which Hibs finally won 3-2 against Hearts. Who says this league only has 2 teams. 1 Quote

Who says this league only has 2 teams. The last 135 years says so. Celtic are only three points behind and have a game in hand. This is despite them having a supposedly 'disastrous' season so far with Rangers not that far behind in third place and they had the football genius of Russell Martin in charge at the start of the season. The whole league is a complete joke and always has been. It needs a complete reset to make it into an actual competition. Quote

So Hearts are top, you think Celtic are threatening and Rangers are not that far behind? Thats 3 teams isn’t it? 1 Quote

You're deliberately missing the point here and you know it. Besides, it's not even January yet so we'll see how things stand towards the end of the season before concluding this isn't going to finish the same way that 110 of the 135 SPL seasons have finished. Backroom DE. Posted 1 hour ago Backroom Posted 1 hour ago (edited) People call it a two team league because, by and large, only two teams ever win it. You have to go back to 1985, 40 years ago, to find another winner. Celtic have won 13 of the last 14 titles, so it's more like a one team league these days. Of course there are other teams there, but the suggestion is that they are mainly there to make up the numbers, which is difficult to argue. That's not to say the other teams don't have value - of course they do. It's just not very exciting for an outsider when you know the same team is pretty much always going to take the title. Fans of the other teams can have hope of their club getting into Europe, or avoiding relegation against the odds, or winning one of the domestic cups, so for those invested in an SPL team it's not a total loss. It's just a shame the odds are so heavily stacked in one team's favour (two technically, but again, 13/14 of the last league titles have gone to Celtic). Another team challenging at the top is great to see. Even if Hearts don't get there this year, I hope they can build on this base and become a genuine threat in future years. It can only be a positive for the competition as a whole. Edited 1 hour ago by DE. Quote
