I would happy with the McLoughlin signing. Experience, knowhow and knowledge of the Championship. Sensible signing for us. Still think we need a 5th option given that Wharton is just returning from long term injury and Carter's injury problem.ย

Or we are signing players that Fit the requirements of Ismael in terms of how he wants to play and qualities he wantsย

or Maybe Ismael rates both and they fit how he wants to play. Brittain is training and they has been no second bid from Boro so lets hope we can convince Brittain to stay and sign a new long term contract hereย

Do only relegated European 2nd tier teams contain the players Ismael wants ?

Or are they the cheapest closest match ?

Its weird that we have the resources to support a fee and wages to sign McLaughlin but not be able to offer a good enough deal to get any of 6 crucial players to sign?

More commission for new incomings no doubt.

You of course assume they want to re-sign...

A question to ask with these (possibly) 4 transfers - are any of them set piece takers? Cos bloody hell a good one would be worth his weight in gold.

De Neve looks like he has a set piece in him.ย

How can you "think" he's not as good as Baath? You say Baath was outstanding? I agree, yet his season before at Norwich, they couldn't wait to get rid of him.

Players adapt differently to managers/systems etc. We can all have opinions but to say someone is better than ย someone's else without watching both (over a season) is abit wild.ย

Obviously its not an exact science, just my opinion. I also think Ohashi is better than Gueye and will score more goals this season. The opposite might happen.

I just personally think from what I have seen from McLoughlin that he is better than Batth. Thats not a criticism as Batth was brilliant last season.ย

Statsย from 24/25 McLoughlin is the first set Batth the second. Not hugely different so stats suggest we are getting a player at least as good as what we have lost ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I think comparing defenders in particular with stats is flawed but this comparison certainly is as you are comparing a centre back with someone who played basically all of the season at left back.

They didnโ€™t want a replacement for Batth as heโ€™s a natural RCB. He only played LCB last season to allow Hyam to move over to the right.
ย

They wanted a LCB to compete with Wharton and it looks like we are getting one.ย
ย

Not sure thereโ€™s much to quibble about here, they are doing what they said theyโ€™d do.ย
ย

The only question when he signs is he any good!

They said that on the assumption that Batth was staying though. So either way, we would have had 5.

But regardless, if McLoughlin signs, we would have him and Hyam, then one centre back who keeps getting injured including last weekend and one who hasnt played for over a year. Would be a huge risk to go with just that.

Why would we want Brittain to stay then, and why does Ismael want him to stay? If he genuinely would be totally satisfied with just Alebiousu and Montgomery, then surely Brittain is unnecessary clutter?

As mentioned, it is funny how the players that exactly suit "the way Ismael wants to play" (you should get that on a t shirt) play for teams relegated for lesser leagues. Dont be naive, of course finances play a part.

He hasnt even said that we wont sign a right back as and when Brittain leaves. You are just pre preparing your excuses. We dont know how Alebiosu would cope playing week in week out for the first time and at a higher level than he has played before. For our only cover to be a young midfielder who has only ever started one league game in which he got sent off, would be a crazy risk IMO driven purely by cost cutting. You even said yourself that you want an experienced replacment when Brittain goes.

They didnโ€™t, they said regardless of whether Batth stayed or went they wouldnโ€™t replace him. They said they were only interested in a LCB.ย

Overlooking the player's qualities and how they fit into Ismael's style and fits the profile of player he wants everytime obsessing over which club they joined from. I take it you had similar opinions last summer when we signed Ohashi from Japanese football or Nzonzi from Ligue 2 club who got relegated that season or Samba from Hertha Berlin B team or signing Nelsen from MLS from your above commentsย

Did they specifically say "regardless of whether Batth stays?"

Either way, its beside the point. My opinion is that a full season with 4 when 2 are Carter and Wharton is a huge, huge risk.

Half those players u mentioned were when we could take a chance on unproven players.ย  N'zonzi I'm sure wasn't brought in as a first team player straight away.ย  Nelsen was a good backup option who turned out better than we thought.ย  Nowadays we can't take chances on unproven players the same way as we don't have the resources to implement them with better playersย

So wereย ย De Neve's team relegated from the 2nd division, or to the second division ?

I keep reading they were a relegated 2nd division team, can't make head nor tail of them tables.ย

Makes no sense. Implies that Batth was just an added bonus rather than integral.

He was said to be seen as a squad player this season so it makes perfect sense.ย

Relegated from the first to the second division.

Ta, bit of poetic licence going on somewhere.ย
