Tom Cairney I think? Might be wrong but think it was a loan that turned into a buy.

Majority of loans are ones the parent club are just developing so there isnt an option.

What, that you just accept everything that they come out with at Ewood without engaging your own brain and thinking about things for a few minutes?

Yep no surprise at all.Β

It's make perfect sense and I did called Cantwell would be named captain before last week game.Β

People ridiculed me. Well I got it right didn't I.Β

Giving Cantwell extra responsibility will help his game just like Neil Warnock did with Abel Tarabat at QPR

So every year much of this thread is full of angry posts about Chaddy being delusional and the fact we're going to be relegated. For the last two years technically Chaddy was right to have hopes of optimism and a good season. If it happens a third time in a row does that make Chaddy right and the rest of the yearly doom mongers and chaddy haters delusional? 🀣

That was a purchase dressed up as a loan. The purchase was guaranteed from the start. If I'm remembering rightly it was only a loan initially due to the loan window being open longer than the transfer window at that time. If I'm misremembering then it was probably just to push the accounting further down the line, but it was definitely not an option to purchase but an obligation.

Can only imagine how much flak they'd have got if we saw him be worthless for half a season then spent 7 mill on him anyway without being forced to.

I think you've misremembered the last two seasons. Last season was a good one (minus our ritual January seppuku), but the season before we were a gnat's pube away from relegation. It's the season before that where we came close again.

Not the last 2, but it has been 3 of the last 4.

21/22: 8th (tanked playoff push)

22/23: 7th (tanked playoff push)

23/24: 19th (damn near relegated)

24/25: 7th (tanked playoff push)

It is funny we've had seasons closer to what Chaddy has predicted than basically anyone else on here for 75% of the last 4 years.

... In spite of all conceivable facts and logic.

You're absolutely right. Shouldn't be posting so late at night after a flight!

Fair point Chaddy, you were absolutely right about it happening, good prediction. I also think it had and may continue to have a short term boost in that game and perhaps beyond, in terms of his performance.

However, and perhaps time will prove this wrong, but I don't feel he has the right personality to be captain material in the longer term. I think it will make him step up, maybe for a few games, but he doesn't strike me as mature enough or selfless enough for it to pan out long term. He doesn't seem like he could pick a team up by the scruff of its neck and get it over the line, not even close tbh. But hopefully we at least see a bump in his own performances, hopefully one that lasts, and he can be a key player for us when on his game.

It was a loan with an option to buy.

Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of Ben Brereton from Nottingham Forest.

The forward will move to Ewood Park on an initial loan deal with the option of a permanent transfer in January.

Loans with an option favour the buying club. That's why the loaning club and player sign extended contracts between themselves to mitigate the risk they're incurring.

As always, loads to be annoyed about with Rovers, but the workings of the Baradji deal is not one of them.

It was the worst kept secret that we were obliged to buy him.

I never even mentioned the Baradji deal, so I certainly wasn't criticising it. Tbh I don't even know what the connection is, I've not seen the last few pages. I assume we are loaning him with a view to buy? I've been out at work all day, maybe I need to check the news.

Yeah I should have said, the last paragraph wasn't to you specifically. Just skimmed through the last 5 pages and seen plenty of people disgruntled that it's a loan with an option.

TBF, I fully expect Derby fans to react how some of our fans did when Mowbery was signing players from his old club 'use more imagination' 'jobs for the boys' etc. Unless you're signing genuinely great players relative to the clubs position, which none which have gone to Derby are, there's nearly always a greater level of scepticism of the signing.Β

Armstrong? Or was just that a regular loan then a separate transfer?

https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/25411554.blackburn-rovers-transfer-latest-surprise-links/

Deals for Blackburn Rovers to sell John Buckley and Aynsley Pears could accelerate in the final week of the transfer window.

Neither player is part of Valerien Ismael's plans at Ewood Park and so the club are open to letting them leave before September 1.

There has been speculation about interest from Saudi Arabia in John Buckley, though suitors for Pears have been less public.Β

Ismael did not dismiss the rumours around either player and admitted things could move quickly in the final 10 days of the window.

"Yes, at the minute, as I say, we have a lot of talk ongoing behind the scenes, you can imagine, in and out going," Ismael said.

"But there's nothing concrete and official now to say, so at the minute we can't announce anything. So let's see how the thing goes.Β

"But as you know, the thing may happen quickly and now, especially when you know that you still have one week, a little bit more than one week until the end of the transfer window."

Rovers are hoping to kickstart their season against Hull City on Saturday. It's an important game for the team after losing their first three in league and cup.

"We want to get our season started," Ismael said.

"On the theory side, it's easy to do but in practice, it's always something different but it is our focus.

"We are focused on the pitch, we had a good week, more calm. Now we have a game where we want to put in a great team performance to help us compete.

"Hopefully, we can get a result to lift and to start our season. They're playing well but we saw that they had some difficulties. It's a good team, they play well.

"We will have our chance and at some point, hopefully, we can be more clinical. When we get our chance, we are really focused on that game. As I said, we had a good week of training with consistency."

This is a brilliant post.

The most interesting part of this forum is sitting back watching grown men have full blown meltdowns about something they have zero control over, or very little actual knowledge about. How could we unless we worked for the club?

The reason, as you say that Chaddy is often factually right in the end is because he’s the least emotive. He just pieces everything together, minus the emotion, plus optimism and usually ends up in and around the right area. Interestingly also, his β€˜arch enemy’ and kryptonite RF99 (only joking) is also un-emotive and therefore usually gets closer to the truth. Minus emotion but with a side of doom! Haha…in another world, they would be best mates!

Here’s how I see it…

The Mission - Sustainability. Reduce reliance on the owners whilst maintaining status quo.

The strategy - Cost cutting, penny pinching and maximising sale opportunities.

The Method - Cut back on people, and wages. Use the foreign markets to buy diamonds in the rough, for lower cost on smaller wages.

The result - Managed decline.Β

Reading that Chaddy is the Sherlock Holmes of the message board, did I take something last night

Duncan McGuire ... Oh!

To me Cantwell is unsuited to being in a leadership position at a Championship club, BRFC has a lot of such individuals … so of course he gets to be captain, not exactly a difficult prediction
