Not until they start actually agreeing new contracts with existing key players.

That works both ways

Its just maybe slightly strange that there are long spells at this club where its not just the odd player that wont sign one, its all of our key players.

Exaucé Mafoumbi & Moussa Baradji have the same agent .. am sure the powers will strike a deal with him  to move the former for the latter on ….Hes like Buckley though hard to shift as not many takers for the lad ……Talks ongoing …

We seem determined to sign Baradji , VI must be a big admirer

isn’t Axel meant to be a right sided midfielder

meaning we could line up like this

trav - tronny

axel - Cantwell - de neve

Ohashi

Not really.

All of our signings have come from the continent where wages are lower.

Brittain / Travis / Tronstad are established Championship players and want comparable wages to their peers.

I think we'll really struggle after this season to recruit - we'll find this continental scouting harder and harder as our permit places dry up (due to fewer and fewer English players logging minutes for us).

That hard £10k wage cap clearly isn't a myth.

Hes a central midfielder who I think played right of a midfield 3.

I agree. We havent learnt any lessons. Not while none of the contract situations are taken.

Worrying about resale value on signings... People seem to forget we are Blackburn "run your contract down and leave for nothing" Rovers.

How was the resale on Dolan, Brereton-Diaz, Lenihan, Rothwell, Nyambe, and Dack (though we can forgive that one to a degree). That's £25m - £30m worth of assets that walked for nothing in the last 3 years. Travis, Hyam, Tronstad (£7m?) - even Hedges (£500k?) - are at best going to be sold for under value (like Brittain) due to contract malpractice, or will join the list of £0 departures.

Let's just say I don't share the same concern if they spend £1m on a 28-year-old. Rovers players walk for free 80% of the time regardless!

I don't so much mind anyone not signing, that's their prerogative. Obviously, the key is

a, getting money for them.

b, replacing them with a good/better.

With receiving good money for Britain and signing new players on longer contracts, maybe, just maybe the new broom is getting busy.

The Mafoumbi signing has always been an odd one. Using up a valuable slot.

I didn't mind it at the time as I thought he'd kick on, but yeah those spots are at a premium now and he seems to be a dud unfortunately.

So no concern about the pattern of us constantly being unable to get current senior players to sign new deals?

It depends on the reasons why they're not signing.

Should have been couple of weeks ago apparently no idea what the hold is … maybe he has to go to the appeals section as he’s a borderline case … Excellent signing if it gets over the line .. Player ready to come … Think he has a relegation clause here also …. Was surprised it has taken Gestede & company this long to follow up with another Japanese player with the success of Yuki Ohashi !! Double Trouble for the championship if it comes off ….

Seems like we swerved a bullet with that Germain we supposedly wanted last year. Had a brief spell of goals (think 4 or 5 in one game) before returning back to irregular scorer.

When its a pattern then surely it becomes a worry.

I suspect a mixture of money when they are offered one, but often a total lack of proactivity to even offer one. Hence why Brittain, Tronstad and Travis all said at easter that there has been no talks.

Quite a lot of inflation on these reported fees.

Our budget is the same as last seasons for transfers,  we are clearly getting it to stretch further, and its not the tap has been turned on, or a reinvestment on sales.

The budget has been set and agreed and sales have no baring. To be more granular sales dont mean more to spend. At the same time,  we are not being told to sell players. If we do sell thats a choice at ground level based on , not wanted, dont want to be here or wont sign new contract.

It's been going on ages, which is what I think Ismael was suggesting.

The Britain sale bucked the trend, as does the length of contracts for the new arrivals.

We also have a new head coach, why would he want to renew the contract of a player he doesn't want ?

I know it has. And nothing has changed since Ismael came in because he has no control over it.

Are you suggesting in terms of your last paragraph that Ismael doesnt want the likes of Travis, Tronstad and Hyam and didnt want the likes of Brittain, Dolan and Batth to sign new deals?

The length of the new signings contracts has been in line with the past.

When was the last time we sold someone in the last year of his contract  who wouldn't sign for £3 million ?

Well it can’t have been that bad .. Germain got called up to the National Japanese Squad and scored 4 goals on his debut … First ever To do that in the history of Japanese football has a record of 5 in 3 for national …. Just to get into the national team is enough these days ….. Japanese players are being sold & bought for £10 to 15 average ….. We missed the boat as Eustace wanted some big old  lump probably one of his old pals ……
