why do Wrexham need a winger when they play 3-5-2 @roversfan99

Paying that sort of money for Broadhead is crazy money. As I said you could sign 3 championship players

Or a whole new squad from the Belgian second tier.

They'll finish above us this season after being in League One last year and were in non-league a few years ago.

They're doing it right, we're doing it wrong.

They won't get busted with FFP either which proves that clubs getting relatively small gates and no parachute money can spend big at this level without issues.

I didn't hear you complaining and saying we should have signed 3 players for the money we spent on Brereton.

Wrexham have signed other players and will most likely add more before the deadline

Maybe they will change formation. I dont know. Either way, he is a very good player at this level.

You say they could sign 3 Championship players. They have already signed Lewis O'Brien, Ryan Hardie, Keiffer Moore, Conor Coady, Josh Windass etc.

My point was merely that I wish our worry was whether in signing a proven Championship quality player, on top of loads more. That we may have overpaid.

As opposed to seeing us get rid of most of our players and replace with cheap randomers on small wages.

Wow. Adding Broadhead to that. It's genuinely upsetting that we're falling behind a team like Wrexham. I never thought I'd see it.

Its called investing heavily with an aim for PROMOTION..our pillocks don't know the meaning of it.

I suspect that Wrexham have this one season to get to the Premiership before FFP/PSR regulations bite & forcibly curb their spending next year.

I believe this will be the case regardless of how many millions they spend (or don't spend) this season, so they may as well go for it

Given the money that they have raked in over the past couple of years, Rovers could be doing the same.  It wont be long until the Wharton, Szmodics & Raya money "falls off" the accounts as it will be more than 3 years ago, and then they will be back to claiming that they want to spend, but their hands are tied & their lack of spending is due to FFP/PSR regs (again)

Yeah, why are Wrexham bringing in all these players for decent money and wages? They not wanting to just be sustainable?

It’s called having “ ambition “. The limit of our  ambition is to stay exactly where we are.

I said I would spent that money on quality centre back and got someone like a Matt Smith to be Graham's back up.

why would they change formation when they always been 3 at the team under Parkinson and its done wonders for them. I would imagine it will be Broadhead, Moore and Windass

You know we don't pay big wages players like Windass, Moore and O'Brien.

We dont pay average wages, never mind big wages.

My point was that I would rather be worrying that the quality Championship attacker we just signed on top of a series of other proven Championship players was perhaps overpriced a tad, rather than whether a rag tag of random players from lesser leagues can capably replace the proven Championship players we are culling.

What are average wages at this level?

You seem to have the answers

Above what we are offering hence why our players are happy to move to clubs who finished below us in the table.

Our overall salary costs in 23/24 were 31.69% below the Championship average.

If we use the median instead of the mean (to strip out the parachute clubs etc) our costs were 15.61% below the average.

Clearly some of the difference could be number of employees/other employees but a large part of this will be attributable to the players’ wages.

If we were paying average wages at this level, we would be in the middle of the list below

Even if you omit the parachute payment teams, we were comfortably in the "below average" bracket then, and have had huge cuts since this point, whilst the lowest payers (Plymouth & Rotherham) have been replaced by ambitious high payers such as Wrexham.

Of the other teams who have been promoted since these figures.  Derby are now obviously willing to pay more than Rovers as seen by Batth, Weimann, Travis etc.  Oxford & Portsmouth are now outbidding us on fees and wages, as shown when they brought in De Keersmaecker & Kosznovszky.  Charlton signed Kaminski, which likely puts their top wage bracket above what Rovers are currently willing to pay also

did we ever put a bid for either player, yes we were linked to them but we did sign Taveras around the same time, so I think he was the pick of Ismael, Gestede and Owen.

If I wasn't aware of how cheap Rovers are under the current regime, I would be convinced that they were paying you to spread propaganda

Even if we agree for the sake of argument to discount Oxford & Portsmouth, look at the rest of the post.  These are actual figures from the actual published (most recently available) accounts.  If you still think Rovers do not pay wages below the Championship average, then you are truly a lost cause
