If you are good enough then you are old enough:

  • Pele - international at 16 and playing and starring in World Cup winning team at 17
  • Mbappe - international at 18 and playing and starring in World Cup winning team at 19
  • Yamal - international at 16 and playing and starring in Euros winning team at 17
  • George Best - United 1st team at 17
  • Trevor Francis - Brum 1st team at 16 and banged 4 goals in 1 league game at 16
  • Damien Duff and Phil Jones - PL debuts at 18

If Tyjon is going to be the player we hope and think he is, he should be playing 1st team football for Rovers this season.

most of those are world class players….pointless listing them when the argument was that it was time for a 17 year old to ‘step up’ which is clearly nonsense. I’ll repeat, those players are the exception not the rule.

So you've just named some of the greatest players of all time.

And based on them being ready so young, if Tyjon is not yet ready, then what? Absolute nonsense.

Even if he develops into a good Championship or even Premier League player, he has done well.

You could name many other top historical players who also werent ready at this age.

Yes they are all exceptional players, however, the point I am trying to make is age should be no barrier - if you are good enough then you are old enough.

I accept some players 'bloom' later.

Tyjon seems a 'special' talent as evidenced by those PL team trying to snare him.

IMO, if the lad is a 'special' talent, at the very least, he should be playing some 1st team football for Rovers this season.

Can you name many more out of the thousands that have played the game? Players like Rooney are the exception

Ronnie Clayton had played more than 30 games for Rovers before he was 18. Including an FA Cup semi final and replay

Ash Philips mk2

Raved about constantly, linked with higher clubs constantly but didn't get much of a sniff until they effectively put him in the shop window and made Spuds finally move for him officially.

So, Yuki & Gueye come through, the guys we needed to see.

I’m not sure we can make any sweeping statements about this team from today- positive or negative.

I'd wager most of us have hardly seen Tyjon play (much). I have only heard about how good he's supposed to be. The £1m bid from Arsenal probably tells me more about the modern workings of football than it does about Tyjon himself as a player. And I think this is how a lot of young players in this same bucket as Tyjon (Phillip might be a good example) is more a sign of how the English game is good at destroying players rather than nurturing them.

I shed a tear at Connor Mahoney. What a player for us he was, and we barely caught a glimpse. Wasted.

Ash Phillips, barely caught a glimpse, and it feels like his development has curtailed.

Still, with Ohashi and Gueye, I cannot see how Tyjon is going to "step up" in the Championship this season. In my view, he doesn't have to. Just continue developing at Rovers because you've got time on your side, and if you REALLY were as good as Rooney or Pele at 16 (which I know is some of the others' point), then it would have been clear by now. He's obviously not, so let's not overhype him to have to do this or do that. He's at the level he's at. Only the modern game and attraction of money too much, too soon, will destroy him.

But even with special talents, lots arent ready to play lots of football at senior level so soon.

And its not a case of, Tyjon is either special or useless. There is a middle ground where he might not be quite ready yet for much Championship football, but he is talented and might go on to be a good player at this level and beyond down the line.

There shouldnt be this expectation on him so soon.

Phillips 2 years on now is massively in demand at this level due to performances so not sure how its curtailed.

Won't that just match the photo? It's not facial recognition software.

Yes, I meant it as a joke.  More than likely he's a prem releasee or an English releasee from abroad
