Russian team....

Regardless, when he tries and his confidence is up its no huge surprise he scored.

His later months for us lacked effort, possibly had any confidence stamped out of him too but effort is the bare minimum a footballer should have in his locker.

Putting my reluctantly realistic head on, we could probably do worse punt wise than Nombe at Rotherham.  They're sinking without a trace but despite that he's got 7 goals for them and is league ones most clinical striker data wise.  Good age (27) with some championship experience (not quite as good as Cashin) and not long left on his deal.  Likely wouldnt mind rotating with Ohashi and gives us 2 decent strikers (on paper) and two grafters.

Also likely very cheap and his agent will push for it

Well we have it and we're not doing very well. You can cite injuries but we shouldn't be averaging more than any other club.

And we haven't got Cleary yet.

Good shout. He's been struggling with injuries but knows where the goal is.

I miss the days of Danny Graham and endless knock-downs for our smaller forwards to play off (Arma, Dack etc).

Shows where we are when we're longing for a strike force in a side that finished 15th in this league.

I do agree by the way.

I think back to that squad we had between 2018 and 2020

Raya, Lenihan, Mulgrew, Nyambe, Bennett, Buckley, Conway, Dack, Evans, Reed, Rothwell, Smallwood, Travis, Armstrong, Brereton, Graham

I don't know what it is but that was a much more likeable, relatable group than what we have now.

Sadly they were on easy street the whole club was with little expectation other than tread water.

This lot now aren't as good and will be paid a lot less (there's a correlation there) but they aren't on easy street by any means compared to that lot.

The priority in those days of 2018-2020 was to 'stabilise' i.e. survive in the Championship and avoid risk of a return to League One, blended with a combination of 'rewarding' those senior players who had got us straight back up and 'developing' some academy products into mainstays of the team.

I don't believe that promotion really ever came anywhere in the equation.

But still, I much, much preferred that group of lads. A good combination of proper established senior players and some really likeable youngsters. I just don't get that feeling now.

You've got a collection from overseas thrown together in a new country, new league, bigger demands physically and a lot are quite young.

You have a head coach who is beasting them daily with a relentless high press, you have a heavy pitch and fans who are 1 goal from turning every game or not turning up, or both.

And you all find yourselves in a relegation battle when no doubt you were sold a crock of bullshit when you signed. When you look around the dressing room and pitch there are no real leaders, no experience for where you are and no talismen you can rely on.

It's really isn't easy street compared to the gentle serene Tony Mowbray  years.

Barnsley are 15th in the table in League One. Why wouldn't he come here on higher wages and a new showground before the next step up?

So much negativity on here, a lot of it is justified, but c'mon...

Why would Cleary choose Blackburn over Bristol City?

The clock is ticking less than a week to go !

I cannot help thinking , 1 or 2:players will be leaving .

Will we sign anyone , in the next 6 days ? I have serious doubts , we are only competitive in games for about an hour , at least 3 championship quality players needed imo , straight down the spine of the team ,or we are down !

Lose to Hull and Ismaels' job is untenable!

The question is will he be sacked ?

Nope he is their yes man and they will hide behind the injuries

I said before Watford if we didn’t win what the ‘excuse’ would be that those are back it looks better but need a bit of time

we don’t beat hull it will be - thy are 4th in league with the second best away record in the league

and then itl be shunted on to sheff wed game at home

Thanks, I naively assumed what I was looking at was this year's friendlies, but for some reason it was set to 2025 and they played Tianjin on the exact same day last year. OK, godawful Russian team (second tier, 3k stadium).

I don't disagree that he is a confidence player btw, or that we failed to get the best out of him under Ismael. I'm just pointing out scoring against a terrible team in a friendly demonstrates precisely nothing to us.

It doesn't no I agree, but people will post on here every time he does score at least for a while....I imagine will score a few too, the standard in China is back to being dreadful again now they aren't able to throw money about the same.

That god awful Chinese team play in a 72,000 arena and average nearly 40,000 crowds.

I'd say he may well have fallen on his feet there (rather than falling over them )

But there is absolutely no accountability now.

And I havent witnessed the fans turning on the players. Ewood is as quiet and apathetic as it ever has been. And even if the fans do get annoyed it isnt at the players.

I'm sure he is earning more money and the crowds are bigger. But he is now in the football wilderness regardless of that. If that's fine with him at his age, then I have no criticism, it's his life and things weren't going well here. Best of luck to him, he's a likeable guy. It's still a shite standard of football now the money has dried up.

You'd think Pickering for sure but no rumours so far. If we're going to up our bid for Cleary then you'd assume somebody off.

Currently have 27 players that can be registered, I'll be amazed if someone hasn't left by the end of the window.

If and I know we won't,  we sign Cleary then I don't think he would have to be registered this season due to his age.

Several times this season when we've gone behind the fans have turned on the ownership etc.

To most of those players that will be a first and unnerving experience but i assume they are getting used to it by now.
