  1. Another great player (and person by all accounts) passing away. He was so graceful and he seemed to glide around the pitch.I RIP.
  2. Impressive. Having seen that I now understand Damien Johnson's role and the reason for his promotion. I will definitely not think of Mowbray as a dinosaur again ?.
  3. I have to agree with you Nick. It was a great day to be a Rovers fan over there on that day. I was in the Bee Hole with lots of other Rovers fans as we blew the Dingles away.
  4. Cardiff against Preston was easily the worst game I have seen this season. Nobbers shaded it but the football was extremely poor.
  5. Dack simply has to start. Why anybody would consider leaving out our best player and top scorer is incomprehensible. We have to win in any way possible as I think Wigan will try and kill the game at every opportunity. The game will need a strong referee and when I looked to see who it was I saw one who I consider to be one of the weakest. It will be at least the third time this season we have had Gavin Ward and on each previous occasion he was weak.
  6. Wasn't it Shebby Singh who, through a Portuguese agent who he knew signed all of them? I have a vague recollection that the agent was the son of a guy who was connected to the Malaysian national team for who Singh had a gazillion caps. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/blackburns-portuguese-players-fuming-after-1835598 Irrespective of who it was the level of corruption around that time was staggering.
  7. You are absolutely right about the objective of promotion and from what I have seen nobody is disagreeing with that. I really don't buy the injury story. Had we needed a result at Charlton I don't for one minute believe that the team would have changed much from the Doncaster game. I too enjoyed revisiting some of those grounds but after all the effort and cost to go to them I felt it was a little disingenuous of Mowbray not to push on for the title.
  8. Yes Leonard there were some sorry sights that day. I honestly don't know how some can enjoy a football match in such a state.
  9. Your last sentence sums it up for me Leonard. The barren years our generation suffered in the years preceding the title win in 1975 were pretty much banished as the youngsters lead the team out each with individual letters spelling out CHAMPIONS on that Monday night against Wrexham. I think it must be a generational thing with fans not being bothered about winning the title and settling for runners up. Surely there would have also been a commercial benefit through merchandise bearing the words Champions. Before anybody comes back I know promotion was the aim and it was achieved but the cherry on the cake would have been getting presented with the League One champions trophy after the Oxford match in front of a packed Ewood.
  10. After the buoyancy of recent weeks that interview has perturbed me a little. I fear we are falling into the same trap as last January and to a lesser degree the Summer window which were both preceded by good form and results. I think that has clouded Mowbrays judgement and if we don't strengthen we could only be one injury away from another capitulation. One of the biggest mistakes of the last twenty five years was not buying after the Premier League win. I remember the words of Alan Hansen who said 'you buy when you are strong' In my opinion Mowbray would do well to heed them words. All this integration nonsense comes across as a touch arrogant to me.
  11. In that particular incident Gallagher was wiped out by one of their centre halves and the referee chose to play advantage. Ordinarily I applaud that but Brereton was on his own with four Bristol players. Once the advantage didn't accrue the referee should have gone back and given the free kick for the challenge on Gallagher and cautioned the perpetrator. He did neither. Later in the game he brought play back for Bristol in similar circumstances. On his general display I thought he should have cautioned five Bristol players but knows if one. Lenihan was punished a few times for challenges when I felt is was two big blokes competing fairly for headers. He allowed their manager to throw a ball at one of our substitutes after he yellow carded him for an earlier infringement. I thought it was the worst refereeing performance we have seen this season.
  12. At the risk of upsetting any purists a couple of incidents pleased me yesterday and allayed some fears for me personally. The first was when Gallagher was assaulted by the Bristol player and a couple of were confrontational to him as he was on the ground. Several Rovers players sprinted over and stood up for their teammate. The other was at half time when there was clearly an incident in the tunnel. Again several players sprinted down the tunnel to support whoever was involved. When I hear the words 'team spirit' that type of incident encompasses it.
  13. The run we have been on but the last week in particular is what we are all about as a club. Working hard, tackling, doing it for the club, great team ethic and many other things for which we are renowned. Significantly for me Mowbray seems to have ditched his new world passing game and gone back to the values we love. In the early part of the season I saw confusion from the players as to what way they should be playing. Of course we can pass it when it's on but we now seem to be seeing a mix of styles which is proving effective. My message to Mowbray would be don't over complicate things and play to our strengths with the players we have.
  14. Not to try and distract away from a great win but Lee Johnson is an odious character. He had been yellow carded when he threw the ball at somebody on the Rovers bench and got away with it. He constantly harangues the fourth official and scuttles around likes child who can't get his own way when a decision goes against them. And the referee was the worst we have had this season. In what has generally been a sea of dross he eclipsed his colleagues.
  15. Today was, in my view the classic away performance. We were intense, worked harder than I have seen in years, quietened the crowd and took our chances. There were lots of really good performances but the pick for me was Travis. I felt it was his best performance for us as he tackled, chased, closed down and kept things ticking over when he got the ball. Well done to Mowbray also. Our upturn in form is largely down to team selection, tactics and substitutions which have by and large been good recently. After travelling nearly 1000 miles this week the fans who went can have no complaints after four points gained from two tough away matches.
  16. I would have taken a point at 7.45 so I wasn't too disappointed as I pondered the game on the long drive home. The first half had the hallmark of the West Brom game with us scoring early and then seeing little of the ball. The obvious difference was that we didn't concede three. After Dack's first yellow he committed another couple of fouls and I mentioned at half time that Mowbray should consider taking him off. I thought Swansea played some decent stuff without really hurting us. I would take a similar result on Saturday right now.
  17. Fulham were a disgrace last night (apart from the last ten minutes) as the old saying of a windy, wet night in Lancashire rang true.
  18. Really sad news. His Rovers team were so exciting to watch with the overlapping full backs in Bailey and Hird. It was a great time to be a Rovers fan mainly due to Jim's excellent management. Whilst refereeing I came across him several times and he always spoke highly of Rovers and his time here. RIP Jim.
  19. And replace them with what? Americanized fast food shops, overpriced coffee places, chavvy sports shops. The best shopping areas cater for all ages as Greenwoods did and gave gainful employment to many.
  20. But his pace is more effective coming in from wide as his goal demonstrated. Swapping players around after making substitutions has in the past unbalanced us and yesterday it did again as Derby almost capitalised on it. When we are in control of a game his changes should be like for like in my opinion.
  21. I have to admit he didn't really impress me in his first few games but he has shown recently that he has the potential to become a top player. At Stoke I saw him bollocking Dack after a sloppy pass enabled Stoke to get a shot away. That impressed me. At times he looks overly casual in possession but so far he is looking like POTY material.
  22. After a really good start Swansea have plateaued so it just might be a good time to play them. I have had reports after every game from a close friend (his son in the manager) and he has always said that irrespective of results they will always play the same way. They will play it out from the back through midfield and their game is based on a high tempo with lots of movement. Last season we tended to do well against this type of play with a high pressing game which threw opponents out of their stride. That said I'd take a point now if it was offered.
  23. A good win and deserved three points with a clean sheet to boot but in typical Rovers fashion we made hard work of it. Far too many chances were squandered in the quest for a second goal and in fairness the Derby manager sensed the possibility of a goal and went all out attack with his changes. We defended well enough but had to rely on a great save by the much maligned Walton late on to clinch the points. I thought Downing was excellent today with Tosin, Nyambe and Lenihan not far behind. Evans continued his fine run of form. As good as Mowbrays changes were recently the first two he made today were unfathomable given how we have played recently. Why not just go like for like, it was simple enough to do but sometimes, particularly with Gallagher it's like Mowbray is trying to prove himself right but to the detriment of the team. However that should not overshadow another win.
  24. I was about to post similar when I saw yours. I think it's vital we shift out the players who clearly don't feature in Mowbrays plans or simply aren't good enough. These include Smallwood, Leutwiler, Bell, Samuel and Gladwin. Even some of the youngsters should go. I honestly can't ever see the likes of Rankin-Costello, Butterworth, Mols or Fisher getting close to playing for the first team so for the sake of their careers should be moved on. It's a big window for Mowbray. I just hope we are not discussing a lack of transfer activity on January 31st.
  25. The Huddersfield information is on the official website.
