Further investigation reveals Old Malvernians are now based in London. Their AWAY colours are the green and white quarters with green socks. Malvern school was founded in 1865. Shrewsbury School was founded in 1552. In the 1860s it had close connections with Cambridge University particularly with a boat race known as "bumping". The oars of Shrewsbury were black with a white Maltese cross on them. Perhaps Lewis and Constantine played for Shrewsbury School against the visiting Malvern School who were wearing their away colours in a match in accordance with the Cambridge Football Rules. Wiki says regarding Shrewsbury School, "The school has an 1856 copy of the Cambridge rules of football, predating the 1863 rules of the FA." So Lewis and Constantine perhaps liked the Malvern strip having played against them in the late 1860s or early 1870s.

So we aren't really sure about 1. being formed at Xmas 1874 or 5th Nov 1875 2. Ever playing in the white shirt with Maltese cross. 3. Ever playing in blue and white eighths. Also, if Lewis and Constantine had attended Shrewsbury School, why did they choose the colours of Malvern School ( green and white quarters) replacing the green with Cambridge blue?

Legends Lounge: Tommy Briggs
bazza replied to BRFCS.com's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
He scored over 30 goals in 4 consecutive seasons. And that's without taking the penalties. Our two penalty takers were Eckersley and Langton. Tommy had to be virtually dragged over to take that penalty against Bristol Rovers which became his seventh of the game. -
I presume Ben didn't play against Brazil. Cannot find the team sheet. Does anyone know if he is fit to play v Uruguay?

Best books and videos on Blackburn Rovers

I've got that Harry Kay book from 1948 as well. It belonged to my dad and I inherited it. I can tell you who beat whom in every FA Cup final of the 1950s but haven't a clue about the rest, even last years. For some reason I remember the 1966 and 1978 finals. That's all. -

When I googled "rail seating" I found myself reading about train carriages. 😃 -

What the hell is rail seating? Is it safe standing? If so it's not seating. One or the other. -
My grandson will be gutted. He was so looking forward to going to Deepdale with me before flying back to Spain the following day. Supporters are treated very badly these days.

And Craig Hignett. We were warned by the Boro fans about Ayala. Why do Rovers often sign players who can never stay fit and, more importantly, are known to never stay fit before we sign them? FFS Another reason to sack Mowbray.

I see Phil Brown has been appointed manager of Barrow. I thought they could have done better by appointing Tony Mowbray. Ah well, not to worry..... I like Barrow. I hope he gets them playing well enough to hold their own in that league.

Graham Oates was a stand-out player in the team at that time. Barrie Hole was another at a different time.

If it hadn't been for Kaminski they would have scored 5.

Going back to the game itself, why do we always play in our third choice yellow kit instead of the red and black halves second choice? -

I think our Tony has done a wonderful job over the past 5 years. Just look at the league table. We are still in the play-off places. It really is a wonderful journey and we are nearly there. Just keep the faith in our Tones. It'll all come good in the end. What's a little defeat? Just a hiccup. Again, look at the league table. -

Stop blaming the club for him leaving. He wanted out and you can't stop someone leaving if they want to. Glad he has been called up. I hope he does well. -

There was a time when we would say "Ossy Ardiles in a Rovers shirt, could you imagine...." -
I think we'll slip up against Blackpool at home and North End away. Sorry for the doom and gloom but that's what I feel.

I like the way Ivan Toney takes penalties. What about those who dink it down the middle knowing the keeper will have dived to one side?
