v Birmingham FA Cup 4th Round replay - 31/1/23
den replied to Sweaty Gussets's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
and who in the club is going to raise these problems with anyone else? At most other clubs the owners would be demanding answers. -
Surely we’re not paying people to scout potential loan signings? Theres two separate things here… Scouting that should happen every day of every week. The loan market. You can’t surely “scout” the loan market. That simply boils down to what the situation is at other clubs at the time… and what the cost is.
-
Next time the club tell you there’s a long term plan for promotion in place, throw this (any) transfer window at them.
-
I would have more confidence if he wasn’t seen as not good enough to contribute towards keeping Huddersfield in the championship.
-
You know the thinking in playing wingers on the wrong wing Tyrone. Full backs always want to send their winger wide and if wingers played on their “right foot” it would make it so much easier for the full back to do that. Plus obviously, cutting in onto their stronger foot gives them a much better chance of scoring. Im sure you did know, but it’s hard to deny the logic.
-
I would take absolutely no notice of any “assist” stat. What’s an assist? Is it a two yard pass on the half way line allowing the goal scorer to go past three men and the goalkeeper, or is it when a player goes past half the team then lays it on a plate for the goal scorer? Totally meaningless. Can he play - and can he hold down a first team spot is all that matters really.
-
How’s it been for the last thirteen years since we sacked him Paul? halfway up the PL, beating PL teams on a fairly regular basis is boring. Personally I never found scoring more goals than the opposition boring. ………anywhere.
-
I know things have changed from the old days Gav, The point I was trying to make is that we seem to be trying to set up some kind of complicated system to adapt with the modern ways of scouting players, - along with long term plans to somehow finish up with a promotion team but I don’t think this current lot have a clue as to what’s really needed. We had just as much chance all those years ago when everything Transfer wise was left to a manager who knew English lower league inside out and a chairman who knew the club inside out.
-
Plans for this, plans for that. I just pine for the days when the likes of Furphy, Smith and Saxton just told the chairman who he wanted and the chairman did his best. It seemed like people knew what they were doing, who these players were and it was kept simple.

Duggie didn’t have the pitches that Tugay has, the plastic coated waterproof ball or modern footwear either. Most of Duggies time he was playing on the proverbial mud heap with a waterlogged ball in hideous, heavy footwear with nailed on leather studs. How would Tugay have coped then? sorry, just seen the latest posts.

Disagree Mercer. All keepers make good saves but the best make few mistakes. Kaminski is full of mistakes IMO.

Incidentally, there’s an almost exact same thread on PNE online called that’s me done.

From being a mid table PL club trying to push on, to a Championship club with no ambition other than develop a few academy lads. Seriously, when was the last time ANYONE at the club, did anything but talk the chances of challenging for anything…. Down? If fans don’t have any hope for achieving anything, what hope is there they’ll hang around?
-
He looks very similar in style to a lot of the midfielders already on the books (although MAYBE better?). Surely we need a central striker that can play the target man.
-
Don’t forget Blackpool.

I started watching rovers in 1962. We didn’t have an academy then. Rovers A and B teams played at Livesy Branch road. That’s where any trialists had to turn up and show their skills. We brought through many, many top class (some world class) players. At that time there was no freedom of contract so we could keep any player we liked. Because of that I and many others saw promotions, cup finals and what I regard as the best Rovers team ever. Then came freedom of contract. Rovers fell from grace into terrible times. We still developed youth players though. The (huge) difference was that we could never keep any of the best lads. A sniff of the top League and they were off. Since then rovers have still developed youth players - and some superb youth players at that. However, we couldn’t keep them. The argument that we could sell them on and reinvest the profits into good experienced players that could strengthen the team was around then. Some fans believed it, (fell for it) some didn’t. We’ve been trying to run this project for how long? It never got us anywhere. The money we got from the sales was never fully reinvested. It isn’t fully reinvested now under Venkys. when we were a PL club I’d have cringed at the idea of someone like Warnock managing us. I’d bloody jump at it now. Someone who knows the lower leagues inside out, knows players, knows what’s needed to get clubs up and out of this league.

How many championship clubs have owners who’ve put in around £250m over 13 years and are still doing it?
-
Are you saying the plan is now different? I haven’t heard that interview. How is it different?
-
We’ve been working from that plan for 13 years now.
-
Flexible forward. If he could play the number 9 position, that’s where he’d be.

Again, for me the fundamentals are wrong - everywhere. The club…. Long term plans are okay for clubs with budgets that mean they can keep their best players and add to them. In the Championship you have to go for the here and now because the best players won’t hang around. Not easy by any means but it’s the only way. Developing youngsters as your main driving force….. if this is where you’re looking, you’re taking your eyes off the ball. Don’t think for one second that any cash raised will go into building a squad capable of promotion. It never has, never will. It’s a “today doesn’t really matter” approach. Completely wrong. on the field currently…… 13 defeats say the fundamental of being hard to beat isn’t there. It’s nowhere near to being there. For me, there’s very little to make me believe we are being run in anything like a manner that will bring success. Sorry. -
It’s the reason they sacked Allardyce and sold an entire Premier league squad. Blame the Walker Trustees. That’s how they sold the club.

First thing any team, in any league has to do is become hard to beat. It’s the basis, it’s the fundamental starting point for any side. we’ve lost 13 games so far. Only 2 clubs have lost more - and they’ve only lost one more. They are the two teams at the bottom of the league. What does that tell me? It tells me there is a massive rebuilding job to do. Who’s going to do it?
