Don't like the guy, but Cook has shown more than enough loyalty to Wigan at this stage. The club made a mess of things behind the scenes this season, why should he slog it at League 1 level again? Absolutely nothing to gain from doing so after winning the title there a couple of seasons back. Would only damage his reputation if they failed to go up and who knows what will change there. Have they even gotten proper owners yet?

Were you told which player? Wouldn't surprise me if a West ham or similar took a gamble on Armstrong at that price. I have seen worse players move to the PL for bigger fees.

I am sure him and his agent knew there would be /were clubs of a certain standing in. We were obviously down the list of preferences. He's a good player with 2 good season under his belt. I would imagine a load of clubs with aspirations of promotion were in for him.

He will be doing well to get 30,000 a week anywhere now. I could picture him turning up at Rangers maybe or a lower half championship team. Hard to envisage him having a productive season ever again.

Can either of you give an example of these "signs"? Ray Charles could see it happen to Mulgrew last season and Graham at the end of this season. Didn't see it with Downing myself.

People are knocking his ability, saying he slows things down. It must be a shock to see someone actually try and pass the ball rather than hoof it up to DG or out of play! He looks fit as can be and with all due respect to Wittingham, he was never the player Downing was. It's a gamble I would definitely take.

To be fair, some strikers can play on the wing. We have seen it here with say Armstrong. Gallagher is wholly unsuited to playng the role.

Evans is worth keeping and Downing isn't under contract. Harsh on Holtby too. He hasn't had a proper pre season with us yet.
