  1. I disagree on Kaminski. Thought he did well, one bad pass early on. I'm a big fan. He punches a lot, sometimes when he should catch. I think some may see that as erratic and in some sense they are right. But the key for a goalkeeper is he is being decisive, a few last night hencouldve caught but he got good distance on the punches. If that's what works for him i dont mind it too much.
  2. Personally I'd go with Trybull. Mainly because he reads danger well and is less likely to get caught up field. Also I think in that role its important to simply recycle possession and johnson gives the ball away a lot. You've got holtby and Rothwell next to him to provide forward impetus. Johnson has his advantages though, the physical presence is very important. But we coped well without him at deepdale
  3. Been a bit of stick for Mowbray religiously playing 4-3-3 post lockdown and to some extent I get it as when the right players aren't available you've got to mix it up but... 4-3-3 has really solved a lot of problems we had with players who never fitted the systems we played before. Rothwell wasn't really a winger as he came inside too much and was often out of the game too much. He is also better facing goal ready to drive. left of the midfield 3 has been revolutionary for him (interestingly it's always where he saw himself) Holtby struggled to impact games on the wing, like Rothwell didn't get involved enough. As a 10 he could be out of games for long periods and you never though he was going to hurt you like Dack could. On the right of the 3 he is involved a lot more and is getting the ball frequently in key areas with runners in front of him (which is key) and naturally he has looked like the quality player we thought we were signing. Brereton - Only a subtle change in the way he is being used but still more advanced - gets him closer to the box, he isn't wasting as much time and energy tracking back, he can get closer to the box. Armstrong can play through the middle now as he is has Brereton close to him to do some hold up play. Armstrong in a 4-4-1-1 would be much less effective. Still interested to see where Dack slots back into all this.
  4. Kaminski Nyambe - lenihan - wharton - douglas Holtby - Trybull - Rothwell Elliott Armstrong brereton Subs: pears, carter, bell, davenport, downing, buckley, dolan, gallagher, chapman There will be a lot of calls to drop Trybull after Saturday but I think he will be a good player for us so long as he is the defensive midfielder, he isnt one of the wide centre mids at all
  5. I like Trybull. But he is being completely misused here. Let him sit in midfield or get him off quick. I'd have elliott as rcm. And bring on another attacker
  6. I agree with a lot of this. There is one inaccuracy though and that was Kean was never sacked. He walked (under pressure). For me an apology for Kean and the earlier mistakes would go a long way especially whilst they have their actions over the last few years to back it up. I think it would help draw a line for a lot of people who want to let go of that anger but can't
  7. I'd have liked a comment box for the last question. In some ways its reduced my interest as it a poorer spectacle without fans but also I've got less options to entertain myself so my interest stays roughly the same
  8. Does it? I wouldve thought we would be covering all the wages
  9. He didn't make it to 100 goals. Only here for 5 seasons, 4 of which he scored 20+ goals
  10. Says a lot that Magloire coped better with Jamie Vardy than he did against Joe Garner and Steven Fletcher/ Nuhiu. Problem is Its hard to say how much of an impact heading these newer balls has atm. The dementia cases seems liked to players in the 60's and 70's. The game is a lot different now so Its hard to say how much it would achieve.
  11. I think the physicality of the league will help him mature. From what I've seen of him he can't head it properly so it should be a nice trial by combat for him down at that level.
  12. A good much needed win today. I think I someways shows how much the last few performances were affected by injuries and illnesses. Johnsons physicality was a welcome return. Kaminski gives more calm to the back line and his distribution is much quicker. Armstrong scores two and is the top scorer in the league. Yes he might waste a few but he gets in those positions and is scoring a goal a game so I think he deserves a lot of plaudits for that. Rothwell returning was also massive for us.he looked very sluggish midweek but I thought he was electric. Real drive, hard work and determination to go with his unquestioned ability. My man of the match today. We have really missed his energy, technique and driving runs
  13. Really depends on who is available for this I'm going to assume that Armstrong is out. I'm not as anti 4-3-3 as everyone else but if we dont have the right players let's try something else. Boro are going to be direct so we will need to be a bit more competitive in the air at the back Pears Nyambe Lenihan Wharton Williams Elliott Trybull Holtby Rothwell/JRC Brereton Gallagher Or Pears Lenihan Wharton Williams Nyambe Trybull Holtby JRC Elliott Gallagher Brereton Or Pears Nyambe Lenihan Williams JRC Trybull Holtby Dolan Elliott Rothwell/chapman Brereton
  14. Probably. Frustrating for Rothwell as he was finally getting a run of games in his preferred position
  15. With what's available I would also pick this team. Would probably go for the greek lad in goal over pears (based on not much evidence)
  16. Problem is if you come so far out of position (he was on the left hand side of the pitch over the half way line) and dont win the ball you've got to get back in position quicker and doesnt
  17. My take on last night (theres a lot to unpack) Firstly mowbray picking JRC over Nyambe was a really bad call. JRC is a decent footballer but he cant defend as a right back, against a decent team he can't start especially considering the way we play exposes the fullbacks and especially as Nyambe is more than good enough and is much more sold defensively. Secondly Lenihan had a horror show, positionally dreadful, kept getting caught out when high up the pitch and over committing himself. Fortunately we have the option of dropping him for Ayala come Saturday. Mowbray has bottled these kinds of decisions before but has made some bigger calls in the last 12 months or so. Evans gave a really spineless performance last night. He doesnt suit the way we are trying to play. Doesnt press with much intensity, his passing is way too safe he chooses short passes and then underhits them so it doesnt give it away but it just slows the attack down, basically hiding how average he is technically get some balls man. Worried about Douglas on last night's viewing, he does the things bell doesnt in particular his passing and crossing butbl looked a little weak 1v1 and made the mistake for the 1st goal. Armstrong had a good game, elliot with a good assist, I like trybull looks a well balanced cdm, brereton was anonymous. If we can aim for a team when available of: Kaminski Nyambe Ayala Williams Douglas Holtby Trybull Rothwell Elliott Armstrong Brereton I'd be happier
  18. Thought his positioning for the 4th goal wasnt great either. It was more his presence or lack thereof. Distribution wasnt fantastic, didnt look great on crosses and didnt sweep like kaminski does which may have contributed to the shambolic defending (possibly). Bar a good reflex save from williams he didnt do a lot right.
  19. Esteves was the best player on the pitch. Only 18 too, wonderful talent.
  20. Defensively all over the place. Lenihan and JRC frequently going walkies and diving in rashly. Nyambe should've started this. I dont think lenihan has coped well with the tactic switch and should be dropped when Ayala is fit. I like Trybull, Evans needs taking off at half time, put JRC there, put buckley there, put davenport there, put elliott in there I dont care I'm bored of his ponderous play
  21. JRC isnt a right back. Should've been Nyambe all day long. We are playing top of the league not coventry
  22. I think Trybull is better suited to that holding role than Johnson. For a start he is more mobile, his positioning seems better and his passing is more reliable. From what we've seen of Trybull so far and what i've read he seems to be the 6 and a half / 7 out of 10 every week player that will allow the full backs to bomb forward and the other two cm's license to play. We are fairly gung-ho at the moment so I'd go Trybull for the balance. I'd also bring back Rothwell is he available, his performance vs Derby was absolutely brilliant and would give us another dimension to open up teams, Johnson has played 90 mins wed, sat maybe starting him again tuesday he might be a bit more leggy than usual.
  23. I could see dack as one of the centre mids. Think the positions that holtby has got himself into the last few games and the chances he has missed. He started his career as a centre mid who liked to arrive late in the area.
