  1. Has anyone got the tape of Mike Newell's hat-trick against Rosenborg? Its still the fastest hat-trick in Champions League history, yet I can't really remember any of the goals, despite going to the game!! Any descriptions of the goals would also be much apprechiated. Still this win remains our only victory in European competition, hopefully this will change tonight though.
  2. Great post Super Stella. Im coming over from Liverpool for tonights game. Lectures finish at 5 then straight over. Wouldn't miss it for the world. Good luck to those watching the game on Eurosport, because they certainly will be missing out on what could be an historic day for the club.
  3. SHEARER, SHEARER, SHEARER. His record says it all. Overall Appearances 171. Overall Goals 130 League Appearances 138. League Goals 112 As Jack Walker began to pour millions into the football club and Rovers had been promoted to the Premier League, Kenny Dalglish went in search of a strike partner for Mike Newell. What he found was Alan Shearer a 22 year old striker with one England cap to his name. And the rest they say is history. Shearer instantly became a fans favourite not only at local level but at a national level. 16 goals in 21 games saw Rovers finish fourth in the Premiership in the 1992/93 campaign. If Shearer hadn't damaged his cruciate knee ligaments in December 92 who knows what could have happened. Rovers fans were anxious to see if Shearer would recover from such a major injury in the 1993/94 season. Alan once again shone 31 goals in 40 games including a memorable double against Manchester United at Ewood. Then came Shearer's career defining moment the Championship winning season. Shearer was phenomenal, scoring 34 goals, including memorable strikes against Queen's Park Rangers and Newcastle to clinch Rovers' first title in 81 years. Shearer also picked up the PFA Player of the Year award in 1995 (Still the only Rovers player ever to do so) The Season after Shearer managed a mere 31 goals in 35 games! However this was to be Big Al's last campaign as a Rover as the lure of playing for his boyhood idol (Kevin Keegan) and for his home town(Newcastle) became too great and he was subsequently sold for a then record £15 million. Shearer was the best player I have ever seen play at Ewood, and that includes players for other clubs. Shearer was a born finisher and leader on the pitch. Yet his game was not all about scoring goals, he chipped in with assists and was used regularly in defensive set pieces. Shearer easily makes it into the Greatest ever team, he would probably captain the side aswell!
  4. That was the lowest point of my time supporting the Rovers
  5. Either £2.5 million on Patrick Valery (played once fot Rovers I think) or Darren Peacock a snip at £4 million
  6. The team played well enough in the second half, to win the match. However we can't hide from the fact that Sinclair, Barton and Dickov all should have scored before Rovers did. Man City look in real trouble to me.
  7. Haha. I would be interested in playing. If not it would be nice to come and watch.
  8. Im listening to the Rovers game whilst watching the Spurs game on five then hopefully watching highlights on Eurosport at 10pm. The CSKA Sofia game where we drew 3-3 wasn't on telly as far as I can remember so we have had this before! P.S. Just looking at out European record on UEFA.com!! Ouch P 16 (6 Champions League, 10 UEFA Cup) W 1 (Rosenborg at home) D 6 L 9 F 15 A 25
  9. Derry are on BBC NI aswell. Channel 890 or something like that!!! OUTRAGE
  10. I have a copy of the game if anyone wants it. I bought it with good intentions but my Computer is just too slow for the game.
  11. Sounds like an awesome trip!! Did any Rovers fans go to Moscow?
  12. Watched Tugay play for the reserves tonight against Manchester United. The team played very well against last year's reserve team Champions who included Alan Smith in their team. Rovers lost 1-0 but were much the better side. Man Utd's goal came in the 14th minute via a dubious penalty decision (no change there then eh?). Frank Fielding saved the penalty but the Manchester United striker bundled in the rebound. Tony Kane and Keith Treacy both came close in the first half for Rovers and Andy Taylor had a rasping drive a minute into the second half. Francis Jeffers had a header well saved by Tomasz Kuszcak before being sent off for absolutely nothing at all. Handbags at ten paces would be glorifying it. Frank Fielding then made a terrific save low to his left, but the contest was effectively over after Jeffers' red card. Tugay the main man, was his typical self, cocky, arrogant and brilliant. Yet still sloppy on occassions but this is probably due to lack of match fitness. Overall a good watch and a good performance by a young inexperienced Rovers side.
  13. The Kenny Lunt goal must have been on Champ Man! Thanks for the correction!
  14. Easy. March 12th 2000 Kenny Lunt's goal for Crewe against Rovers at the Blackburn End. The lowest point I've had supporting Rovers for the last 19 years!!!
  15. Disgusting challenge. Didn't Roy Keane get a 5 game ban for intentionally hurting a player? Thatcher should get at least the same. The FA with this yellow card is final rubbish are almost promoting the action by not taking any further action!
  16. I'm not 100% sure but the away shirts I saw with names on at the game vs. NZ were all in white letters, so I assume its white.
  17. 1. Chelsea 2. Liverpool 3. Manchester United 4. Arsenal 5. Tottenham Hotspur 6. Everton 7. Newcastle United 8. BLACKBURN ROVERS 9. Bolton Wanderers 10. West Ham United 11. Aston Villa 12. 18. In short FRIEDEL - 7 (A few good saves) MOKOENA - 6 (Little to do) NEILL - 7 (See Mokoena) TODD - 7 (See Mokoena) GRAY - 6 (See Mokoena) REID - 7 (Well taken goal) SAVAGE - 6 (Worked hard, although could have been sent off) BENTLEY - 6 (Little impact) GAMST - 6 (See Bentley) ROBERTS - 8 (Held the ball up very well) McCARTHY - 9 (Very impressive performance, took both goals superbly well) SUBS PETER, JEFFERS, McEVELEY - 6 (Solid performances from the bench) GALLAGHER - 6 (Still hold's onto the ball too long) KUQI, DOUGLAS - 6 (No time to impress) I was sat infront of Franny Jeffers's wife and dad. They were a pleasure to listen to the whole game. Gotta love those scousers.
  19. Going back to Pirates of the Caribbean. I thought it was a really good film. A sort of Empire Strikes Back kinda film in the sense that it doesn't really end but still worth watching. Especially if you're gonna go see POTC 3. I thought the problem with the 1st film was a weak story, but Johnny Depp stole the show. In the 2nd film, the story is a lot better, but Johnny Depp goes missing at times, and is no longer a loveable rogue figure, in fact you start to dislike him. Overall though 8 1/2 out of 10
