  1. Didn’t know that! I know he managed Downing before so, as an example would you say he’s shown Paul a preference due to loyalty? (or “reasons rooted” there of!) I wouldn’t say so personally DE. Whoever he chooses on Saturday, I am quite convinced it’ll be down to considering who the best option is from his perspective. On another topic is Fisher actually 7 foot 2?!?!
  2. That’s something we can fully agree on. A more savvy and less ignorant individual would’ve been quite aware of the intentions of the press. It’s hardly “news” that sensationalism sells papers - nowadays it’s “clicks”. Which links directly to the Milo quote - just another Instagram account for making money from hits, blogs, youtube videos and sponsorships. The more people they piss off, the more replies, the more money they make. Should they be allowed too? In my opinion, it should be censored. The problem then lies in where the line is drawn. Wishing death on people is a long way past the line though!
  3. I don’t agree, Mowbray might over think team selections but I can’t ever recall him picking players for anything but form/impact. Besides what loyalty does he have to Leutwiler? Makes little sense “confused icon”...!
  4. He never had a platform for experience or knowledge of spirituality though - he was interviewed as England Football manager. Much of its timing. I’m sure that it would’ve been glossed over and ignored if he has said it after being manager. Tiered morality is one way of putting it, but maybe a better way is saying he had more responsibility than you or I. Hence his words have more resonance or impact.
  5. Fair enough in your opinion like. Way you say it suggest Mowbrays a penchant for choosing players for alternate reasons. I haven’t seen enough to judge either but it is encouraging to hear we’ve a few other potential decent options to rely on.
  6. Shakey Jakey... lets leave him in the “why did we give you so much money” column!
  7. Geography mustn’t be a strength since I think it’s the moorbrook and that’s completely the opposite way. Both about 15/20 minute walk from the ground
  8. You’re probably right - wasn’t intentially worded to be as dismissive. However, there is plenty of scientific evidence that can (depending on your definition of the word) prove how life on earth works, however what people personally want to think is up to them. I mean - for me the onus of proof should be on those who wish to believe in alternatives. From my perspective and experience, religious and spiritual types often put the onus on “disproving” suggestions as opposed to the opposite.
  9. Can’t remember the name, but there is a good pub on the dual carriage way (left on way in, right on way out) that had a BBQ going out back before and after last time I went up. Hopefully something similar to Lamberts first game! Anyone remember the keeper for Preston that day...? He’s made a bit of a step since.... edit - think it’s the Moorbrook. Some fantastic guest ales last time
  10. And why shouldn’t he?
  11. I don’t think he was sacked because nobody can prove him wrong. I think he was sacked because he represents (through his employment and reputation) the interests of millions of people. We aren’t talking about a bloke who dices beef at Holland’s pies. We are talking about someone who had been given a public platform to talk because of responsibility and success in football. What’s that got to do with spiritual beliefs? In that position - you should be a role model for society, and thus expected not to ostracise 20% of the population because of something you believe. At no point has anyone said he “shouldn’t have those views”, it’s about the way it’s shared. I might have specific opinions on immigration, homosexuality, feminism and religion that you find extremely insensitive or insulting. If I had responsiblilities that gave me a media platform, I’d be just as ignorant and arrogant if I started using it to promote my beliefs. The “he was asked” about it argument doesn’t wash, nobody with his rep should be that naive to not anticipate the media are intent on shocking/sensational stories. Plus - I’m quite sure science and common sense can say quite easily that disability is nothing to do with reincarnation. It’s immensly arrogant to even consider that others should simply accept the possibility they’re less-able than others for “karma” or spiritual reasons.
  12. Surely a poorly coached team like ours hasn’t a chance against ex England “Macca”?
  13. I think Palmer will start on Saturday because he played really well last week. The lineup all depends on who is fit, thankfully we’ve no mid week game.
  14. From my perspective - religion and spiritual belief is just utter nonsense. You might not be aware, but much like my political leanings - I can’t talk about my own spiritual/religious beliefs in my job due to possible influence. Even when asked questions I have to be completely impartial. I understand and accept why that is. My choice/belief could insult or cause issue with those I have a responsibility for or can influence. It’s exactly the same principal as to why Hoddle should’ve never talked about such ridiculous concepts in public.
  15. Sorry Batman but I think people are offended that he shared ie promoted a belief in a way that castigates a whole section of society. I personally find this abhorrent. Indefensible comments from my point of view, and whilst free speech is often trollied out as an excuse to simply offend all and sundry, freedom of choice means I choose to think Glen Hoddle is an utter bellend for thinking it was even remotely acceptable to share such bizarre, antiquated and frankly ridiculous belief. Yes, probably no malice intended, probably just a half baked understanding from something but that’s exactly why I said he was ignorant for it. Still, hope he gets well soon. No family deserves to lose a loved one like that.
  16. It’s not difficult to understand why some would be offended by that. Start off with anyone disabled, then move on to anyone related/knowing someone affected by disability. Its a damn sight worse than accepting a lucrative under the table cash offer to speak to a client or dinner for some dodgy agent, whilst drinking a pint of wine!
  17. @Batman. doesn’t anyone in a position of such responsibility working in public spotlight require a certain public etiquette that doesn’t offend people?
  18. I guess it’s probably better to avoid judging other posters “self awareness” when your overall tone of viewpoint echoes someone the messageboard largely agrees opinion “is done tongue in cheek? I thought we’d all worked him out years ago...”
  19. Why so precious these days. I don’t think you spitting your dummy out because I liked a post you didn’t is “getting called out”. You know as well as I do - certain people, certain topics = people see what they want. You don’t like Mowbray or his methods, so anytime you can talk about us being “poorly coached” you will do. Any time someone thinks this is overly critical or a another example of overly negative reaction - you’re in quicker than a divorcee on the rebound.
  20. Surely that cap fits you much more snugly Blueboy, based on what I recall you calling the M.O.T.M of the leeds game a week previous? You know, complaining about people complaining isn’t exactly what I’d call riveting either.
  21. So “Tony’s lost the plot” is balanced debate!! Pull the other one DE. You do make a point though - how about a thread titled “discussion” intended for people to explain their thoughts and then a seperate one called “reactionary cathartic bullshit”?
  22. Are on on the FF?
  23. That’s not exactly true Batman - I mean I fully agree with the idea he was “paraphrased” in a way that made it more offensive. The part I disagree with is the insult element - any national hero/legend/icon in a position of responsibility and respect should have the gravitas to know how those words would’ve been used against him. His arrogance, ignorance or both meant that he chose to discuss those beliefs in public. That was and still is my problem with his comments back then - it doesn’t take a genius to know those views are best saved for private conversation. He also talked about them on several occasions too - not just simply for the Times/whatever paper it was, on radio and other media. Get well soon Glen, but I’ll never personally forgive the bloke for making such heinous suggestions. Believe what you want, but when you’re in a position of power/respect and responsibility, think a bit before speaking.
  24. Two particular responses to that great post (just the last bit anyway) 1. Plenty on here had big reservations and still talk in the summer included moving on from TM to move up to the next level. 2. it doesn’t matter if you’re a coach etc, posts should focus on why you’d have a different lineup/tactic and what you’d do - as opposed to simply saying he’s lost the plot. What’s the point in that? I mean nobody has even picked up on the fact you can seemingly quote a 3/400 word post these days and reply with simply “that’s rubbish” and it’s acceptable! Anyway that’s enough Sunday wasted. Got an hour back and I’ve wasted it here AGAIN... maybe next time we can talk about Football
  25. Farcical suggests a ridiculous or nonsensical decisions. From your point of view, the lineup might not make sense but is that because the managers “lost the plot” or is because you might not know the whole story - Ie DG injured/fatigued or Downing being ill? Look, end of the day people can post what they want as long as they’re prepared to accept questioning or criticism of said content. I stand by the suggestion that (at the current time) the criticisms of certain players, the manager, signings, tactics etc on are generally overblown - especially in matchthreads. Obviously that doesn’t mean that I’m suggesting the solution is the overtly patronising way of coming on and calling this place “most negative place ever” in some childish “americanistic” tone.
