January transfer window 2020

How much didn't the parachute payments cover that spending? Where they even aware of the forecast budgets after relegation for years +1, +2, +3 etc... Did they know how much they were paying those players? I don't know the answers, but they may well have been unaware and 'badly advised' on that as well and therefore had no idea what they were ultimately spending / risking. -
Quick thoughts. Tosin and Lenihen did well defensively although Tosin gave it away a bit too much. Nyambe I thought was very good in the first half, especially on the overlap, but like against Wednesday seemed to play within himself in the second half. Bell was poor first half, getting skinned a few times and distribution poor. He defended better second half. Travis needs to improve his distribution but he was MOTM for me. He's becoming a right niggly little git in a positive way. Downing and Holtby were OK without being spectacular. Armstrong was lively and took his goal well, although the defenders want shooting for giving him that amount of time. Gallagher tried to make a nuisance of himself in his random right wing position. Rothwell was outstanding for 45 minutes before injury. Not sure why after 70 minutes they all moved 10 yards deeper and couldn't put their foot on the ball. QPR didn't suddenly start playing well, we just couldn't do anything other than lump it long and give it them back. Result wise it was a very good evening and keeps us on the periphery of the top 6. As for the 1,500 who flocked to buy tickets after the red-button option was removed, they obviously didn't cover the gaps from the 1 in 3 season ticket holders sat around me who decided not to bother.

Does that not imply it's £10 for UK residents to watch it in iFollow, and £5 for oversees. If so, it's plainly obvious why it's not on the red button (not that I disagree with the decision)

I'm the same. I get home most nights around 7pm. It will be in and straight out tonight to get to Ewood. Whilst the season is still 'alive' I will go down, but in 3 weeks time if we are 10 points adrift of 6th then I'll put my feet up, open a beer and just press the red button.

??? You skipped the last 3 pages then?

This one snuck through didn't it. Why are we still SO upset? Personally buying a club and then allowing an agent to catastrophically run it for what appeared to be his own financial gain against the wisdom of the established board is probably the main reason. The reason fans are still SO upset 10 years down the line is because in that 10 years we haven't been close to being back where we were when they took over, and they continue to run us with no structure or plan. Instead of being financially stable club punching above our weight, we are a financial wreck trying to compete at the level we have been for most of our existence. If this isn't the time or the place then you shouldn't have brought it up at all. But as you have brought it up then spit it out.

Apart from dismantling a 10 man Sheffield Wednesday last time out, its a style of play which has looked inept and toothless for a lot of the season. -

If we are so good, how come we just played Wigan, Huddersfield, Forest, Preston and Birmingham (twice) and couldn't stuff any of them. We're a decent Championship side who is too inconsistent to challenge. -

Exactly what people said about DG at the start of the league one campaign when he was left out. Remember that great run that actually almost got us into contention in November / December. Guess who started 5 out of 6 games? Against Preston he did more in two touches to bring others into the game than Gallagher had done in 75 minutes. He just doesn't fit in thanks to the spending narrative of the manager. -

I get the logic behind the transfers of Gally and BB, but not the fees we paid. Gally had looked ok first time round and scored goals. However he had since spent a season at St Andrews where he was awful. I speak to a Blues season ticket holder on a weekly basis through work and he was forever telling me how bad he was performing. He then spent a year doing nothing at Southampton. As a backup striker I understand why a club would bring him in, but I don't see the logic in spending £5million and making him your main man when he had shown nothing for two years. To use the Gestede comparison is a bit silly as, although both had shown little in the previous seasons, one cost £250k and the other £5mill. If you remove the Arsenal game, it would appear that Breretons career at Forest was one of promise rather than performances. However I'm sure the major flaws in his game were present then, and whoever conducted our scouting reports were simply wrong. Gambling on him developing for a fee of £1 mill or something is logical. £6 or 7million is a disaster. -
Got this for Christmas and just read it in 3 sittings. Starts off as a decent footy biography with a Rovers interest and becomes a more riveting read (sadly) post accident, especially with the story being punctuated with the views of the other contributors (souness, flitty, Sven, Peters etc..) What surprised me was the amount of time from accident to him leaving Rovers. I recall his goals at Villa Park early in his return, but would never have said he was here for 3 and a half years after his accident before he was released. I always remember him as having left by the time of Stead, Yorke and Emerton.

I don't think Smallwood has the reputation Marshall has that probably makes managers wary. -
Can anyone point to which orbit Tom Lawrence's shot is currently in.

Waggot once again confirms the match day charge is introduced to put fans off attending, as they don't want last minute attendees as it screws up their catering and staff requirememts.

Silly stat. Did Nyambe, Brereton and Walton all score against Oldham? Rothwell was involved in the goals against Brentford and Shelf Wednesday. Or do we only praise players if they make the absolute final pass for an assist, regardless of what happens in the move previously? Having said that, his goalscoring record at Oxford was non-existent so why people thought he would step up and replace the Dack goals god only knows. For me, he is limited but does at least put us on the front foot at games. If we have Chapman and Armstrong in the team then I'd leave him out, but when the midfield consists of Trav, johnson, Downing, Evans etc.. Rothwell is useful in making us an attacking force. Interesting that his first spell in the side this year coincided with our winning streak.

I think his point is promoted in May 2018. Advertised in August 2019. Whilst not 18 months, 15 months is still a long time from promotion to advertising the role. That plan should have been in place during the league one season as what will happen IF we get promotion. -

I suspect it's more of a case of him knowing we have paid players off previously. It's not working out for him at Wigan so he may as well go back and see if he can get a lump sum from Rovers to pay him to terminate his contract. Opens his options for next year. -
I've not idea what happened. However is Waggot really going to say "Tony got me an interview " or vice versa if it was true? As for running the club, who interviewed Coyle? The million dollar question.

Ignoring social media, which is a breeding ground for trolls and reactiionists, what criticism is disgraceful? If I watch a player who is crap and doesn't look like a footballer I will say that. I cheer him on the pitch and have never booed or jeered him. History may well say he was hung, drawn and quartered by the Rovers fans, which simply isn't true. -
We already know none of it sticks to this lot.
-
It was definitely sang clearly twice, once towards the end of the first half and one half way through the second half. It was also followed by a chant of Ooh Ahh Gallagher which showed that nobody was questioning Gallagher's commitment or effort. Just the fact he is clearly in the wrong position.
-
Pointless and misleading as you have left out the games he got points in!! Plus City and Spurs finished above Liverpool in all 3 of Alardyce's seasons.
-
As I said above, I meant on here. You have got frustrated by what you have seen at Ewood this season as much as most this season. When you spend time and money to go down, and see players out of position and players benched that should be starting, all to justify a failed transfer policy, it's annoying.
