Genuine question - is our style of play burning us out by half time? In the last 4 games we've had more expected goals in the 2nd half once - compared to the opposition having more expected goals in the second half in all 4 games. -
v Ipswich Town (a) - 23/9/23

Rovers will start well - miss a couple of great chances - then Ipswich will score a goal out of nothing and go on to win 3-0. Hirst is nailed on to score as well just to rub it in. Pears will be questioned about his efforts for the second and third goals. -
Progressive passes – 2nd Passes into opposition penalty area – 1st Touches in opposition penalty area – 1st Non penalty expected goals – 3rd Non penalty expected goals per shot – 2nd Expected goals from counter attacks – 1st It's clear where the problem lies.

I enjoy that game where you have to guess a player from his career path. I'd never have guessed this one in a million years. Years Team Apps (Gls) 2006–2009 Blackburn Rovers 0 (0) 2008 → Gretna (loan) 12 (0) 2008 → Accrington Stanley (loan) 13 (1) 2009 Adelaide United 2 (0) 2009–2010 North Queensland Fury 23 (3) 2010–2012 Central Coast Mariners 48 (4) 2012–2014 Guangzhou R&F 34 (1) 2014–2015 Perth Glory 35 (5) 2015–2016 Roda JC 18 (2) 2016–2017 Perth Glory 24 (3) 2017–2018 Pakhtakor Tashkent 16 (0) 2018–2022 Melbourne City 82 (4) 2022– Mumbai City 22 (1)

I was just looking at the line-ups for Everton and Arsenal as Everton have some very obscure sounding players. Gone are the days of a top Premier League squad containing names like Tim, Tony, Jeff, Colin, Graeme, Stuart, Kevin, Alan, Mike, Jason, Nicky and Bobby. We had names like Vitaliy, Arnaut, Idrissa, Amadou, Abdoulaye, Nortberto, Youssef, Magalhaes, Oleksandr, Fabio, Jakub, Takehiro, Leandro and Filho on display at Goodison. Bring back the 90s 😂

We are going up (the optimism thread)

Maybe we should bring in Paul Ince for assistance on what to do when we get into the penalty area? https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EOAL1LXXUAEeA04.jpg -
Blackburn End: Waggott Out

I get it that we've got to make cost savings - but this is surely counter-productive. The alternative to making cost savings is increasing revenue. Making the tickets affordable and getting young fans/potential fans through the turnstiles is surely a better idea. It'd be like me looking to make cost savings at home and cutting my water off. -

We're at home and creating chances. We should play our own game and let them worry about us. I can understand changing things to deal with the opposition away from home...but not at Ewood. -

I get we're a town club and it's always going to be difficult to get big crowds (Birmingham doing poorly considering the size of the city) - but this paints a depressing picture. We're a similar sized town to Huddersfield/Preston - but they've obviously got their ticket pricing right. -

Completely agree with this. Szmodics would do a better job in the false 9 role than Dack did - but I'd still rather have him playing at 10 behind an out and out striker. -
Lewandowski 😂

Which is also annoyingly off centre. -
It's probably worth noting that the Euro 96 team only had one player that played outside of the UK - Paul Ince. The English league wasn't the strongest in Europe at that stage - having not produced a Champions League/European Cup winners since 1984. We probably overstate how good some of those individuals in the 1996 squad actually were. 3 of the last 5 Champions League finals have now been won by an English club which to me suggests the Premier League is the strongest league in the world these days. Add the fact that the likes of Kane, Bellingham, Tomori, Trippier etc. are prepared to move abroad and gain continental experience stands us in very good stead. I think it was Graeme Souness last night who said England shouldn't even have to go defensive against the likes of France. We should play our own game and go at them.

Southgate is my concern. If we don't win anything, the blame falls at his feet.
-
England have such a vast array of options going forward. They need to win something with this squad.
-
Southgate must have been inspiring at half time. Like the Italy away game. Dominated the first half and then look awful after he's had 15 minutes with them.

"I would've played for free. I'd have paid to play," he insists. "To have that amount of time playing for them in that era with those players and the fans. So many good people there, a great family club. It was incredible" Makes me even more angry at what Venky's have done to this great club. To have a brilliant servant like that and treat him which such disdain is disgusting. -
I used to work there - sad to see. The majority of what they sell goes directly from China to countries overseas - so hopefully this won't have too much impact.
-
From Saturday we've got 7 games in 22 days. We could do with them being ready sooner rather than later - even if they're not available for Saturday.

Top player. I remember watching him playing for Basel against an English side in Europe about 10 years ago and he took them apart. Criminally underused by Chelsea whilst he was there. I can see why an Egyptian would want to move his family from Liverpool to Dubai for a few years though and line his pockets at the same time. I wouldn't blame him for wanting to go.

He's a Stoke fan isn't he?

1 x Europa League, 1 x FA Cup, 2 x League Cup wins But I get your point, not much return for the investment.

I've been in touch with the editor of the India Today article. He would be interested in doing a fresh story regarding their investment in Blackburn Rovers. He wants accurate details and numbers. Would any of the people with more knowledge on the specifics of their investment (in numbers) being interested in getting in touch with him?
