  1. If you compare Rhodes and Rochina in 12/13 - we won 32% of games with Rhodes starting, compared to 46% of games when Rochina started. Then looking at 13/14 - we won 48% of games that King started in, 45% of games that Gestede started and 40% of games Rhodes started in. Rhodes lack of pace, strength and ability to hold up the ball caused us issues when we didn't have the ball or when he couldn't hold it up in my opinion.
  2. Between Gestede, King and Rochina they would have scored plenty of goals I'd have thought. I think it would have improved us defensively as well as Rhodes couldn't hold the ball up to save his life. Gestede could and King could stretch teams with his pace.
  3. Friedel, Emerton, Amoruso, Short, Gray, Gresko, De Pedro, Ferguson, Matteo, Yorke, Stead That was his team in his final home game before he went to Newcastle. Garth Crooks would have been proud of that line up! Still not quite sure who was playing where.
  4. I think he was unlucky not to get a better run of games. I'd have loved to have seen Rhodes left out, and Rochina playing in behind Gestede and King around that time. Think we would have scored a lot of goals playing like that - with a three in midfield behind and the full backs providing width.
  5. Plus, he's not actually keeping players happy with his rotation system anyway.
  6. Tried a search, but I couldn't find a suitable thread for this. Allardyce Motivational Techniques Before the 7-1 defeat at Old Trafford, Allardyce played a montage of film clips on a projector in the changing room to attempt to motivate his players. Obviously it didn't go too well, but of more concern to me was Givet's comment: 'After the match, we were all laughing. The warriors had completely passed us by.' I certainly wasn't laughing after that game. "Good" to see the players could see the funny side.
  7. Invest in another striker, and balance the side by playing him on the wing.
  8. Found this interview with Daniel Williams about a proposed takeover in June 2007. The bit in bold and italics is quite the prediction So any takeover would involve substantial funds being made available to the manager to spend in the transfer market? Yes. The institutions we have who are interested in doing this deal - and they have to remain confidential until the very end if we do end up doing a deal - are very, very large investment institutions and you don't make an investment in a Premiership football club without being willing to dig into your pockets, and make money available to ensure the club does well in the Premiership. Say we bought the club for £40m - not that that's the figure - and then said right go out and get us into Europe, we'd probably find ourselves in the Championship, and then League One after that (if we didn't then invest further). https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rovers/news/1480619.buy-out-bidder-exclusive-interview/
  9. I very much doubt they see Steele as better than Walton. If you've got high hopes for a keeper, why have him sitting in the stands as third choice keeper, when he would be better getting first choice football somewhere. More often than not it doesn't matter how good your third choice keeper is - he's never going to play. For the record, Walton hasn't impressed me so far, but I was speaking to a Wigan fan last night who felt he got off to a shaky start there but ended up a very good keeper for them. He's still young - maybe it's a confidence thing.
  10. Yes, if you put £5 on Huddersfield it returns £21. If you put £5 on Rovers it returns nothing.
  11. I'd suggest the song you're refering to could be classed as fairly racist.
  12. No it was in Blues Bar I think the one I went to. Sounds like it's been mentioned a few times though.
  13. I didn't think he was that bad, but I did go to an evening with Flitcroft and Jansen at Ewood once and these questions always come up about the best player they've ever played with. The usual names always get a mention - Jansen, Duff and Tugay. They were also asked who the worst player was, and while they wouldn't 'directly' answer, they said if you'd had a bad game/training session, it was referred to as 'having a Grabbi'.
  14. You get a mention on their forum Tomphil ? https://www.pne-online.net/forum/index.php?threads/and-they-say-we-are-obsessed-with-them.3429092/
  15. Eh? It's not like he's new to the English game.
  16. https://www.thefightingcock.co.uk/forum/threads/sigurdsson-or-holtby.10952/ Poll by Spurs fans in 2014 - where 89.6% of people in the poll rated Holtby as better than Sigurdsson. One has since been involved in a £40m transfer, the other is on a free, but he must have something about him.
  17. When you read the comments, they are praising his short distribution. He seems to fit in well with their passing style.
  18. https://www.griffinpark.org/forums/showthread.php?t=132179&page=4 Thought I'd have a look at how he was getting on at Brentford. Seems to have won their fans over, a few comments below from the thread: Reminds me a bit of Ederson at city. I like him, he’s definite and comes for everything Said he’d be good. Always looking to play quick. Solid again. excellent today Definite improvement, he takes control of situations that Bentley would have left to the defenders. Very, very good performance.. Great save second half ........... very good again........... Watched him warming up today. Outstanding shot stopper. Good in the air too. Really rate him! Incredibly quick and decisive. That may lead to a howler or two but, once he really gets an understanding with the centre backs, I think he's going to be superb. Love this guy already. Very impressed. He is a massive plus Looks an excellent acquisition to me Hes looking like a great signing. Hes very quick and decisive off his line. He is very good isn't he. Exceptional keeper. ?? He's a very good footballer. And a commanding keeper so far, especially for one lacking a little in height. Breeding confidence amongst those in front of him. Looks an excellent signing. Really confident on the ball and the defenders seem to have confidence in him too. We played out v well at times today. Also like the way he catches crosses but didn’t have a lot else to do today!! I really like him though. His distribution is the best I’ve ever seen. He’s good isn’t he. Terrific footballer #ping He’s been superb in our league games.Comes for everything and excellent distribution, great signing Been superb so far. Possible game changing signing. Seems to read the game very well, has confidence and presence and his distribution is excellent. Just seems safe and reliable, He made one of his few saves towards the end of the game. I’m not quite sure how he did it and it’s not on the Highlights, but it looked li like a one handed claim for the ball a bit like Pat Jennings used to do. It was another bit of class. His cross claiming has been impressive so far. Very happy and seems an upgrade to me.. Agree. It's been brilliant. Can't remember anyone better in the last 25 years But his positive attitude and confidence in owning the area is a massive difference this year. Interesting the amount of people claiming how he 'owns the area' and is very commanding. With the right coaching, and some experience (he's still very young for a keeper), he's going to be a very, very good keeper. Can't help but feel we've made a mistake selling him.
  19. Yeah definitely shouldn't have brought Dack on. ?
  20. It's a good job the deal went through or the headline could have been 'TOSIN OFF'
  21. Having said that, I'm pretty sure Gary Pallister was described as Bambi on ice in his early days, and he turned out alright.
  22. Asked a City fan I know for his opinion on Adarabioyo. He described him as stylish but a bit lightweight for a bean pole. Maybe that will work alongside Lenihan, but I would like to see a nasty centre half in the squad as well.
  23. Is he an improvement on what we have in the squad currently? Definitely. Is he better than Harrison Reed? Probably not. So whilst I think it is a decent addition, it doesn't actually make us any stronger than last year. I think the message from Southampton was basically not to even ask about a price for Reed.
