I think that we may see a few more teams play 3-5-2 against us now. We really struggled yesterday and at home to Sheffield United. Mowbray in both games was constantly changing formations but still could not get to grips with the oppositions system and in both games we were comfortably beaten. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rovers/news/17439405.blackburn-rovers-0-middlesbrough-1-tony-pulis-reaction/

Honestly I wouldn't have. I have believed a few months now that he has take us as far as he can which is mid table. January really papered over the cracks playing 3 poor teams. All it took was conceding one goal at Brentford and the flood gates opened and all the frailties that have been on show this season returned. You say get behind him and the players but what are they giving us to get behind. January showed that we had no aspirations to compete for the play offs and in his comments the manager has basically said that the season is over and that shows on the pitch as the players are playing as though they are undermotivated and already have one foot on the beach.

Unusually for one of your posts Chaddy I don't actually disagree with much of that although I would have Bennett and Bell out as well. The problem is I don't see Mowbray getting rid of the likes of Smallwood and Williams, I also would not be at all surprised if he gave Conway another year. I also can't see Mowbray bringing in 7-8 players even though I agree with you that is what we need. All his comments and actions over the windows he has been here suggest that he isn't going to make big changes in one go, also given his dealings in the transfer market I wouldn't back him to bring the right players in.

I said after the Leeds capitulation that he should go, as I was fed up with our weak mentality and poor defending. Two months on we are still mentally weak, the defending if anything has become even worse and the failure to address any of our problems in the January window only strengthened my view. So for me he is not the right man to take us forward as he has shown himself incapable of addressing the serious problems that we have.

I think it's 5 goals in 17 first halves at home. We just seem to lack any motivation and desire to get on the front foot at home and take the game to the opposition, instead we seem happy to go in at half time 0-0.

Nearly three months ago now since Mowbray spoke about evolving our style of play, yet our style has not changed one bit. We are still as reliant on Dack and Graham to score and create as we have been since the start of the season. I'm beginning to wonder what we work on in training as its clearly not defending, fitness or evolving our style of play. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/17259862.mowbray-wants-rovers-to-evolve-their-style-of-play/

I noticed when we had a corner today in the first half he was stood on the edge of the area. Very strange to me that a 6ft striker isn't getting into the box looking for a goal. I wonder is Mowbray telling him not to go in there (if so hardly a vote of confidence)? Or is he choosing not to put himself in there due to a lack of confidence? In which case the manager should be encouraging him to put himself in the box.

Your asking me and in my opinion I would not play a back 4 as we don't have the players to play it effectively.
-
I wouldn't play a back 4.
-
If only Bell put as much effort into defending as he does attacking. A couple times today players went past him without him attempting a challenge and when Raya made a good save from Howson's cross, Bell was at most 2 yards away from Howson but didn't even attempt to put a leg out to try and stop the ball going into the box. For me Bell can't play in a back 4 as he is not good enough defensively, he either needs to be used as a winger or as a wing back in a 5.

The most worrying thing with Mowbray is that I still don't think that he knows what our best starting 11 is or what our best formation is. Personally I think a 3-4-1-2 would suit the players we have most the only problem is that thanks to Mowbray's decisions in January and with Lenihan out we don't have enough centre backs to play that system. For me the following is our best team and the system that will get the best out of them. Raya Lenihan Rodwell Mulgrew Nyambe Bell Reed Travis Dack Graham Armstrong

I'm beginning to feel very sorry for the lad. He doesn't look a very good player but he is clearly lost playing out wide and doesn't have a shred of confidence, its sad to watch. But for me the blame is squarely with Mowbray as he spent such a big amount of money on him (which leads to increased expectations) that he clearly wasn't worth and I also think that his handling of the lad (and of our youngsters in general) is poor.
-
I wouldn't want many of our team in the trenches with me particularly our defenders.

The win against Leeds was the high point of our season, since then our form has been that of a side battling relegation. 22 points from our last 20 games is no way near good enough. Start of the season we had the confidence from last season and sides hadn't had chance to work us out. More recently though the momentum from last season has gone and sides have worked out our strengths and the manager has been unable to find another way for us to play. We are becoming a very easy and predictable side to play against.

Grabbi and Davies were world class compared to this lad.

Just like Sheffield United at home Mowbray could not tactically work out how to counter their 3-5-2 formation. I had no idea at times what formation we were playing and it seemed that neither did the players. Dack was wasted he seemed to be playing more as a defensive midfielder than an attacking one in the first half. Mulgrew was awful not just for the first goal but also a dreadful header which led to the Williams red card among other things. Bennett showed for the goal that is he not a right back but other than Mowbray everyone else already knew that. He was poor throughout as well (did he make a pass to a Rovers player?), should not be starting in any position for us. I thought that Rodwell was about the only player to come out of the first half with any credibility our best player by far, can only assume he was taken of because of injury otherwise the decision to take him of instead of Mulgrew is a disgrace. Brereton completely invisible another who didn't seem to know where he was playing. Raya was much better today not only was his shot stopping good but so was the command of his area from their set pieces. Bell was good going forward (seemed that his goal has given him some confidence) however still poor defensively, if only he put as much energy and effort into defending as he does attacking. For me he's not good enough defensively to play in a back 4 he either needs to play on the wing or as a wing back in a 5. I remember a couple posters on here laughed at me when I said what a class signing Obi Mikel was for them. I though that today he showed what a class act he is at this level, he dominated the Midfield. It is surely clear for all to see that the manager's negligence in the January window is now starting to bite, no attacking alternatives on the bench and now for the next few games only 2 available centre backs. The team's performances in recent weeks are reflecting the attitude that the manager has been taking, complacent, unambitious and by February satisfied that the season has been a success. The team aren't motivated enough and when you here the manager speak its clear why. Not Good enough for me Mowbray Out!
-
The team selection wasn't the problem it was just the players selected weren't good enough at finishing (which we already knew). ?
-
And only yesterday he was calling me arrogant. ?
-
He's given you 2 examples of him playing 3 games in 8 days but you deem them irrelevant. It's pointless arguing with you as whatever facts are presented that contradict your previous statements you still won't except them.
-
Apart from wasting a good opportunity can you tell me what threat that you thought he offered?
-
Honestly I think they are both League 1 players but I think that Williams is marginally better. I would be quite happy though to see both sold in the summer. Bell has had a more than extended run he's started 17 of our last 22 games. Two of those games that he didn't start he was injured and then ill and another one at WBA he came on at 15 minutes. Only Raya, Dack and Evans have started more league games than him this season. However despite having got a consistent run in the team he still hasn't really improved and looks a League 1 player.
-
You obviously missed Bell's 'defending' (although I use the term defending very loosely) for the 1st Reading goal. As for Conway I think we've all seen quite enough of him this season to know that he's clearly not up to this level anymore. We need to be playing players who are going to help take the club forward next season, at the end of this season its time to thank you and goodbye to Conway.
-
The crazy thing is, he is by far our best central midfielder. His performance in the centre of midfield at West Brom was the most complete performance that I have seen from a Rovers players since we were relegated from the Premiership.
-
So Mowbray was in Switzerland to meet the owners, another story that Sharpe missed.
-
To me it shows just how unambitious he is. 16 games ago we were 8th and Preston were 21st and now they are ahead of us, comments like this from Mowbray are insult the intelligence of fans. Another reason for Preston going above us it that they are unbeaten since new years day after which they significantly strengthened their squad, if only Mowbray had thought of that.
