Mowbray spent more on Gallagher than Bowyer spent on players during the whole of his tenure. And as we all know Gallagher isn't even Mowbray's most expensive signing. Bowyer had a net spend of about -£10 Million during his time here Mowbray has a net spend of about +£14 Million. I was no great fan Bowyer but he was a much better manager for us than Mowbray.

The difference is Ancelotti is an excellent tactical manager who has won 3 Champions League's and multiple domestic trophies all over Europe. He knows what he is doing and looking for when he changes his system. Mowbray on the other hand has no idea tactically how to change a game he just throws on as many attackers on as possible and hopes for some individual brilliance from one of them to bail him out. If Mowbray was behind like Ancelotti last night he wouldn't have made a few little tactical tweaks he'd have had 5 or 6 attackers on the pitch with no shape or structure whatsoever just an over complicated mess.

Not really they made changes before for the new season started. So the changes were not made this season.

TRANSFER THREAD - JANUARY 2021
Ewood Ace replied to Hoochie Bloochie Mama's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
To be fair to Nixon he was pretty on the ball in January in regards to our business and with regards to a few in the summer. -
Huddersfield have not changed managers this season, nor have Reading, nor have Boro and neither have Birmingham. The clubs who have changed managers this season are Watford, Forest, Wednesday (twice), Derby, Cardiff, Barnsley and Bournemouth although they haven't yet appointed a new manager and have only changed once not twice as you stated. Forest were in the relegation zone when Hughton took over now they are 18th and going well now Hughton has had a window to bring some of his players in. Derby were rock bottom when Cocu was sacked and are now out of the relegation zone and their defence has been significantly tightened up. Barnsley were 21st when their manager left now they sit 12th. Cardiff have only had 3 games with McCarthy but are unbeaten with 5 points from 3 games they had only taken 3 points from the previous 7 games before that. Bournemouth are yet to bring anyone in although they got there first win in a while yesterday after sacking the previous incumbent. Watford were 5th when they sacked their manager and are 5th now. Wednesday were 23rd when they sacked both of theirs and still sit 23rd. What that says to me is that no side this season that have sacked a manager have got worse and a fair few of them have improved. We know we have reached our ceiling with Mowbray, surely it's time to see if we can get someone into improve us. A remarkable achievement by him that Wycombe are even at this level. They've spent most their recent years in League 2 and have never been in the second tier of English football in their entire history so it is a remarkable job he has done just to have them in this division. Their squad is mainly composed of free transfers with a few young loan players. In 8 years at Wycombe he has barely spent a penny on transfer fees. The clubs record transfer fee was £200K back in 1999, that's just over 3 times less than what we paid for a full back to loan back to league 1.

He's our best defender even though he is having to do the jobs of 2 men. We have plenty of problems but Nyambe is not one of them. Although he will be come the summer when he leaves for a pittance of what he is worth thanks to Mowbray's shoddy treatment of him. -

That what happens when you have a manager who doesn't play with winger's. Nyambe is being asked to cover the whole of the right hand side in attack and defence. -

Today was classic Mowbray. We have a good group of players but we are being held back by a stubborn, arrogant, deluded manager who seems to think he is a gifted tactician but he's not and everything on the pitch looks a confused over complicated mess. The 4-3-3 does not work yet because that is what he has been working towards playing for so long he won't admit that it isn't. The 4-3-3 also does not suit Dack he's far to deep in it. Whenever he does make a tweak to the 4-3-3 it is to play a false 9 which has never worked whoever plays the role. Harvey Elliott is not a false 9 he is a right sided player that is where all his best contributions have come from. So what does he do today he put's the 5ft 5 winger through the middle and plays the 6ft 3 striker out wide. And that brings me on to Gallagher how many more ineffective performances does he have to put in on the wing before Mowbray swallows his pride and admits that he is not a winger. The Harwood-Bellis sub today really wound me up that was a sub made for one simple reason and that reason is that he has told Man City that Harwood-Bellis will get a certain amount of game time. And just like when he had to shoehorn Bennett into the side Nyambe was again the victim of having to shoehorn someone in. In Nyambe we have one of the best full backs in the league who is probably worth £8-10 Million yet we are most likely going to lose him for a pittance thanks to Mowbray's very shoddy treatment of him. As for his subs its the same every week just throw on attacker after attacker, play with no shape or structure (although we rarely do before the subs) and just hope that one of the numerous attackers on the pitch can produce a moment of individual magic to bail him out. He reminds me of a vatsly vastly inferior version of Arsene Wenger during his final years. Everyone can see the problems and what isn't working but he is too stubborn to admit he is wrong and would rather go on failing by doing it his way. -

He's got no idea how to change a game around. All he ever does is stick on as many attacking players on as possible and hope that one of them can produce some individual brilliance to bail him out. -

As I feared Nyambe will be the scapegoat in order to shoehorn THB to keep Man City happy. Just like he was the victim of having to shoehorn Bennett into the team. -
Championship Season 2020 - 2021
Ewood Ace replied to Hoochie Bloochie Mama's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Watford remind me a bit of us. They have some very talented individual players but as a team just don't look a cohesive unit and heavily rely on some individual brilliance from someone to win them games. -

Swansea have looked good whenever I've seen them this season but with Hourihane in midfield they have gone to another level and are probably my favourites for the title now. Hourinhane is an absolute class act at this level, he walks into any team in this divisions midfield. -
I think it was £19 Million they paid for him with potential addons taking the deal up to £37 Million. He certainly looks a player, his decision making is fantastic. And now he gets a deserved goal 6-4.

5-4 now. Diallo running the show at the moment.

When did Bennett last produce any quality in a Rovers shirt? -
This is the first time that I've ever seen Pike play. He looks a very physical young lad, he certainly wouldn't struggle with that side of the game if he were to be given a chance in the first team.

This has been a cracking game of football. Neither side great at the back but going forward both sides have been very exciting.

An early Look into 21/22

Assuming we are going to be in the Championship next season, then the first thing that has to be sorted is the out of contract players. Nyambe is the one that it is absolutely vital to keep. The only other 2 I would try to keep is Rothwell and JRC although I wouldn't be overpaying to desperately keep hold of either. The rest of the out of contract players I would let go. You'd think this summer that we are going to have to cash in on at least one high value asset. Armstrong would probably make the most sense as he will net the highest fee and he will only have 12 months left. You'd think the departure of Armstrong would also see a return to a 4-2-3-1 as Dack will be by far our most dangerous attacking option and that system gets the best out of him. So at least one striker is going to be required probably 2 although should Vale score a hatful at Rochdale then being 3rd choice in the Championship would be the logical next step. The likes of Buckley, Magloire and Butterworth should go out on loan at decent levels where they are playing every week which will really be make or break for them in terms of whether they are to have a future at Rovers or not. Carter will obviously have to be evaluated after his current loan but a full season out loan playing first team football will probably be best for his development. That would leave us going into next season with the following. Goalkeeper: Kaminski, Pears + numerous others. Right Back: Nyambe, Pike Left Back: Pickering Centre Back: Lenihan, Wharton, Ayala Central Midfield: Travis, Davenport Attackers: Dack, Rothwell, Dolan, Rankin-Costello, Brereton, Strikers: Gallagher, Vale It was always going to be a summer of upheaval partly because of the number of players out of contract and partly because of the managers short term fixes in the transfer market this season. So come the summer we will definitely need a centre back, a left back, 2 central midfielders, a wide man and a striker. We may also need another centre back depending on Wharton's recovery, a right back depending on whether Pike is seen as an able deputy to Nyambe and possibly another striker as well if Vale's spell in League 1 is not very productive. On the other hand should we by some miracle be promoted and in the Premiership next season then we will need to spend around £150 Million just to have a chance of survive. -

Be a big test for Lenihan and Branthwaite this as QPR have looked a much better side since signing Charlie Austin, he is still a quality striker at this level. Defensively though they aren't very good. I fancy a 3-1 Rovers win. As for the line up I'd go with. Kaminski Nyambe Lenihan Branthwaite Douglas Travis Davenport Dolan Dack Rothwell Armstrong Subs: Pears, Harwood-Bellis, Bell, Trybull, Downing, Holtby, Elliott, Gallagher, Brereton -

It is very strange though to sign a player who we think in 6 months time will be our first choice left back and loan him back out to League 1 especially when we aren't blessed with quality at left back. I can understand say when side signs a youngster who is a way of the first team and loan him back to the club. But this makes little sense really, offer an extra £100K to get it done now or offer Bell on loan or even a permanent if they could agree terms.
