I'd be amazed if a club paid that much for him. I don't think he has the technique to be anything more than what Armstrong is.

Let's hope that he can steady the ship and keep us on track. My fear is that his tinkering etc was always just under the surface. He's had little choice but to stick with mainly the same team and formation, which luckily for us has got us to where we are and fair play to him in that regard. The moment that he has to make key decisions, though - like last night - he invariably makes the wrong ones.

Based on what I've seen, I don't think Edun is a capable deputy. At least not for more than a small handful of games in a team pushing for promotion.

If it helps to get more fans into the stadium, then job done and hats off to the club for showing some initiative.

Barca are churning players out like nothing else at the moment. Technically, they are streets ahead of Brereton, the latest one being a striker Ferran Jutgla. I'd be gobsmacked if they gave BBD a moments thought.

Also, if we did get promoted, then we'd likely be fishing in a much bigger pool. The likes of Nyambe could well become a thing of the past for us.

After the last 2 home games, I've had a niggly feeling that the team is creaking a little and is in need of a shot in the arm. Today's game was perhaps a game too far, not helped by both the enforced and intentional changes, and highlighted what a paper thin squad we have. The goalkeeper aside, Edun wasn't up to much at left wing back, Dolan is never in a million years a wing back, Johnson was terrible at CH, and we missed the balance that Wharton/Pickering give the back 5. Now is the time for Mowbray and Park to earn their crust. We need at least 3 first teamers who can slot in - not more make shifts - or the season could start to fizzle.

It matters to the 3.5k + Rovers fans spending good money to hopefully see their team win. It should matter to the players to get as far as possible in the competition and to test themselves against better players. It should matter to the club to progress and hopefully get a money spinning home time. Ayala should definitely play; he needs match practice to keep his fitness up. The trick is to put out as competitive team as possible to give us a good chance of winning, whilst being cognizant of players who may be needing a rest or carrying knocks, and resting those players who are absolutely key to the league campaign (Brereton/Lenihan et al).
