Like I’ve said a thousand times - what do we do in training ? That’s the place to try these ideas out. As far as I’m concerned we’ve been light in midfield most of the time. If we can’t have quality in there we need quantity.

Yep, we need more in midfield. That’s were the game is won and lost most of the time.

I’m not knocking the current manager in particular, I just think even if we got Pep in he would struggle. We really need somebody who can make a silk purse out of a sows ear. We had our chance and we blew it. We’ll find out just how badly on Monday.

We are still 6th and have been up there all season yet as I pointed out on another thread none of our current team would get into the Souness promotion team and that team only came second to a very good Fulham side. The next season all of Fulham, Rovers and Bolton stayed up.

I didn’t watch the match yesterday so I can’t comment on the performance or lack of it. All I will say is if you look at yesterdays team not one of them would get into the Souness promotion team. That tells you all you need to know about our chances of promotion.

I think they just did. In the “ free hit “ games they’ve played well. When the pressure is on we look lost.

It’s like in any walk of life - if your attitude is wrong ultimately you’ll never reach your potential. When I trained apprentices the one thing I looked for was “ attitude “ . If it was good I could teach them all they needed to know, if it wasn’t good we were both wasting our time. What was that lad called that Utd blew out a few years ago and he then drifted from team to team ? He was majorly talented but his attitude was all wrong.

We needed some steel in central midfield and we have had for a while. Plus we needed a predator. The one that flew through the keepers legs and across the goal was a classic example.

He tries to nick the ball in the tackle way too often for me. Really go through with the tackle and more often than not you’ll come away with the ball. I’ve seen him do that once or twice Sheff Utd being the prime example. I’ve yet to see him go past a player or leave one on their arse a la Tugay v Gerrard. As Mrs Shoelaces once said about another player - his legs look like they’re pinned onto the bottom of his shorts.

My eyes yesterday said it had.

We need a performance and we need to be at it from the off like we were at Leicester and against Sheff Utd. None of this allowing opponents 20 minutes to get their feet up by the fire.
