  1. Yeah, the other keeper, Sanchez, is top class. Definitely one to push Raya all the way with the Spain squad.

  7. Hi Matey, did you see “ Panorama “ last night ? It was truly jaw dropping. An average sized 1970’s terraced house turned into 6 flats ! The landlord was charging £950 for each flat ! The took the previous owner around and she was almost in tears. Somebody was living in what was her old bathroom, somebody else living in her old kitchen ! Unbelievable .

I haven't seen it yet John but can well imagine, having lived and breathed this stuff in my previous job. When I first started working in housing, Right to Buy had only just been introduced, and you could walk round estates in Blackburn and be able to pick out the 'bought' properties because they were the ones with the lovely new doors and windows. Fast forward 20/30 years and the exact opposite is the case!

Absolutely no strategic thinking behind RTB, it was simply buying votes. I hope she's rotting in hell now.

Yeah, me too. Just an exercise in buying votes. As was all the other privatisations. Look at the state of public utilities now. A shambles the lot of them. You must watch the programme, it’s an eye opener.

  8. It’s nice to have some for a change ……… I’d given up completely with the previous manager.
  9. Last nights “ Blue Lights “ had a great revue in todays paper. We watched “ Unforgotten “ instead. Not bad but nothing to rave about. However “ Panorama” about the sale of social housing made my blood boil. A woman in London buys her average sized terraced Council house for £15k, about 12- 15 years later she sells it for £85k. Further on down the time scale road a landlord buys it and turns it into 6 tiny flats. He’s charging £950 per flat per month. We’re paying the £950 to him through housing benefit. This landlord has another 5 house in the same row. Do the maths.
  10. As a kid he was brilliant. For whatever reason he didn’t really go on to be the world beater he looked like he was going to be at 17 or 18.

  13. The first time I saw him play for Leicester I thought “ That’s the new Alan Shearer “. It didn’t turn out that way although he had a long and successful career.
  14. I suppose the team picks itself really. Nice to have a reasonably settled line up and a pretty coherent way of playing for once.
  15. Mark Hughes quietened a few of them in midfield. Big Brad won us the game though.
  16. I get you now. They had plenty of very close encounters with the football league trap door. The old chairman, Fred Ratcliffe, had lots of friends among the other chairman and had to call in favours on many occasions. Altrincham came within an ace of replacing them once over.
  17. You must be thinking of another team. They were never in the Conference. The fanzine was called “ Exceedingly Good Pies “. Darlo had the best one - “ Mission Impossible “.
  18. They’ve just sacked their second manager of the season tonight and the third in total. They’re making the Chicken Chokers look good.
  19. Yeah, just like anybody called White was always nicknamed Chalky.

  23. Hi Andi,  things had been rocky between the clubs until a couple of years ago. Then Hornets got a new board who made big efforts to get things back on track. The football club felt the same way and relations between the two clubs were really good. The best they’d been for a long while. Then the football club got a new board.

They went through the ground rental agreement with a fine tooth comb. Previously it had mostly been “ gentleman’s agreements “. They wanted a big cut of the car parking for our games. So nobody gets paid now and car parking is free. They wanted to charge us exorbitant amounts for use of the scoreboard - stewarding etc. So then we were only allowed to use 1/8th of the ground with a limit of a 1,000 unless we paid exorbitant charges. We’d agreed a fee for the use of the ground for the England v Fiji game last year with the old board. Rochdale is the home of Fiji rugby league. The new board wanted £60.000 up front for us to stage the game ! So the game went to Salford and everybody lost out.

They closed our club shop, then they closed the club office, took down all our signage outside the ground. Finally they removed all our memorabilia from the main stand ! If it wasn’t written down in black and white we couldn’t have it. They didn’t want us at the ground but they knew we had a cast iron lease of the ground so they decided to freeze us out by other methods.
Well, look were it’s got the bastards - relegation from the football league unless they get a miracle.

      Hi John

Thanks so much for filling me in. Finding stuff out about Hornets is so difficult nowadays. I saw about the Fiji game and wondered what had happened. Talk about cutting off their nose to spite their face!!

You have to wonder what the football club board were hoping to achieve. You could (almost) understand it when they were in an upwardly mobile state a few years ago but the last two or three years have seen steady decline. Creating antagonism when both clubs would be better pulling together just seems bizarre.

As you say Up the Rovers - and hopefully, sometime in the future, Up T'Hoooooorrrrrrrnnnnnnnneeeeeettttts.

      Cheers Andy (Neil T.)

Thanks Andy, I think they were new to the job and had delusions of grandeur. They know better now. Hornets have friends on the local Council and I believe the football directors were told in no uncertain terms that all the shit had to stop if they wanted support from the Council. Will shall see.

      Regards John C.

  24. I’ve lived in Rochdale since we moved from Blackburn when I was 5 years old. They used to be my second club but since the new board took over and destroyed the relationship between the two clubs I’ve stopped going to the football. As I said previously I’ve probably been to Spotland as often as I have to Ewood over the last 60 years. Back in the day I had several mates who played for them. They’ll never get another penny from me now, or any members of my family, if I can help it. If the new board resign as they should do I’ll reconsider. Their treatment of Hornets has been nothing short of disgraceful. They seem to be the sort of people who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.
