I remember somebody on here that was trying to tell me he was a good header of the ball when we re-signed him. My view then was he was a 6’ 3” guy that jumped about 5’ 10”. What do they do in training ? -

I wasn’t his greatest fan Jim but I must admit he could strike a ball. -

They also had Harper who played for us a couple of seasons ago playing in midfield. They paid big money for him. -

Yes, what a clean striker of the ball he was. Most of those aren’t teed up, he just hits the ball as it comes to him. Testament to the hours of practice he must have put in as a young man. -
Sterling will never be world class until he develops a football brain. How many times did he lose the ball trying to take on one man too many last night ?
-
Their goal showed the advantage of getting to the by line and putting in an early cross. If that had have been Sterling he would have tried to beat another defender and the chance would have gone.

He comes across as a very humble and level headed guy. Two great feet, all those years of practice paid off for him, he was genuinely two footed. You can’t say that about lots of players today. -
We didn’t create one real goal scoring chance in 90 minutes. The Kane goal was a bolt from the blue from 35 yards out. We had plenty of ball but the Poles were happy to let us play in front of them, we just kept running up blind alleys out wide. I take my red, white and blue glasses off when I watch England.
-
It never went anywhere though. They just passed it around until they lost the ball.
-
Mount ? I’d forgotten he was playing in the second half.
-
Too much walking football at the end. If you’re walking with the ball and they’re running - 8 times out of 10 they’ll come away with the ball. I thought Sterling had a nightmare, he must have lost possession every time he had the ball.
-
I don’t like this midfield, we’ve nobody who can run with it or pass it more than 15 yards in the centre. If you’re playing Rice and Phillips then Mount has to do a lot more, he’s not been in the game.

The Chicken Chokers and their apologists should be made to sit down and watch this series. So they can see just what they’ve destroyed. It wouldn’t do Mowbray any harm to watch it either. -

I remember listening to the game on the radio and looking at my watch towards the end of that Utd v Sheffield Wed game. That’s when “ Fergie Time “ was invented. -

I try and avoid reading or listening to anything he says but whenever I’ve heard anything recently he sounds like a man who know’s he’s on the way out. -
I can’t see that happening.

Or do we need one more than we do a striker ? -
The thought went through my mind - what if he’d have scored a goal after 5 minutes ? Does he go the rest of the game on a yellow card ? Southgate needs to have a word with him.
-
I think you’re right about the lack of a top class playmaker. If we had a Gazza or even a Scholes we would look a much better team. Playing Rice and Phillips in midfield will beat the likes of Hungary etc but they won’t beat the very best. Let’s hope one of our younger players develop into that role. Foden maybe ?
-
I thought he was skating on thin ice with that tackle that brought the yellow card. That would have been a red in the Prem.
-
Much better second half, could have easily been 6-0. If that had have been Shearer up front instead of Kane he would have had the match ball.

Very scrappy game tonight. Rice and Phillips in the same midfield = dull football. Mount not in the game, Sterling trying hard but no end product. No shots on target so far.
