  1. Not really, at least he didn’t hit it with his shin.
  2. Joe Haverty was another 5’ 3” winger who played for us a decade before Johnny.
  3. Outside of the boot passes are hard to pull off. I think Kevin Gallagher on Radio Lancashire after the game was hinting he favoured his right foot a lot.
  4. You could say that Mowbray has as much autonomy at Rovers as Dyche has at Burnley but the difference in how it’s used is like night and day.
  5. I can’t see that costing them much then.
  6. Mm, that’s a gamble I’m not sure I’d be taking.
  7. That’s what I like about Dyche - he tells the players what numbers they are having, not the other way around.
  8. It’s his decision making that lets him down, that aspect of his game hasn’t improved in all the years he’s been in the first team. He’s too easily drawn to the ball.
  9. Having a plan and sticking to it would help, as would knowing what’s your best eleven is. I was reading in today’s paper that “ Burnley’s line up yesterday at Anfield was the first consisting of squad numbers 1 to 11 in the top flight since a Charlton side in 1998-99 “.
  10. “ When you get the ball make the pitch as big as you can “, I was told that as a 16 year old player. Also, “ When you lose the ball make it as small as you can. “
  11. Don Everly, another bit of my growing up has gone. Nobody has ever come up with harmonies like Don and Phil. RIP.
  12. We’ll be able to field a team with 3 or 4 No 10’s, 5 when Dack comes back. I don’t know what goes on in Mowbray’s head but he needs to stop listening to the voices.
  13. Kevin Gallagher said it was like watching the football his dad had told him about from back in the day. Two guys out wide all the time and three up the middle.
  14. Left back has to take some responsibility for goals like that, it’s his position when the ball is on the other side.
  15. He was right about the goal thought, the lad was stood on his own in the “D “, that shouldn’t happen at any level of football.
  16. I’d go for one full of question marks like The Riddler wears, sums Rovers and Mowbray up to a tee.
  17. It was interesting to hear Kevin Gallagher comments regarding the first goal. He reckoned that even the footballing dogs in the street know our central midfield drop too deep in defence. That’s why they lad had a free shot from just outside the box. Whoever came out to block the shot it was a pretty half hearted attempt, too little, too late. When I played central midfield we always had a defensive player in or around the “ D “.
  18. I’d swap their manager for Mowbray any time.
  19. Stating the blindingly obvious but we won’t win many games with only 2 shots on goal.
  20. He’s never had a 90 minute team in all the time he’s been here. Even when we got promoted we only played 30 minutes out of the 90 most of the time.
  21. That was after he’d gone back to Southampton and done nothing.
  22. That doesn’t mean Whiteman is a bad player. Veron was one of the best midfield players in the World but it just didn’t work out at Utd. Same with our own Chris Sutton, terrific at Norwich, Rovers and Celtic, but a flop at Chelsea.
  23. Chapman looked the part at Shrewsbury last season. Is this kid from Crewe any better ?
  24. “ An Inspector Calls “ was good last night on BBC 4. It’s an old story but it’s just as relevant today.
  25. Most blatant penalty not given in my book was Parker on Jason Wilcox at Old Trafford when we were winning 1-0 and it would have been a red card as well. I have a long memory and that was just one of a long series of bad decisions we got against the Red Rats.
